So far, there's no definite name, only naming its project folder "Cave". I've been working on it off and on for about a month or so, jobhunting's been taking time away from it so there's that.

I ended up making art of the character since I needed some kind of OC to avoid using pre-existing characters to prevent legal stuff just in case.

Basically, the pony needs to find the petals of a magic rose in order to make an antidote for a poison for someone and the only place to find this rose is a cave that's haunted by some lonely spirit, the one who spread out the petals in the first place.

Dunno if it count for this thread, but I'm working on a small "racing" game for mobile & VR (kinda like "Race The Sun", but less abstract and with short tracks).
I intend to make one semi-hidden track were you would race in a world of multi-colored pastel ponies, with the boss level being two unnamed pegacorns taking turn to stop you.

So I just downloaded the ambience.prolog beta demo, and I honestly expected it to be a lot more shit than it is. For how ambitious the scope is, the demo works surprisingly well - and that's a pretty old version of the game if I understand things correctly.

None, because most good games are already moddable anyway, and usually already have pony mods. The problem is they generally retain most of the base game, which makes it shit - sure you can replace the playermodel in Skyrim or TF2 or GTA, but that doesn't make it a "pony game". To make a good pony game, you'd need to change so much, that you're better off just using the engine to make your own game.

Then it becomes a question of "what engine would you use", which is rather technical. I'm going to say unreal but it's really impossible to give a definite answer.

No, seriously. All games that have potential to be modded, have been modded. Anything else usually isn't even worth trying to make into a pony game, because it's just so far away from one that the problem is basically exacerbated - either the genre is completely wrong (pony call of duty, anyone?) or it's like a 2D indie game with an inflexible engine where it's easier to rebuild the game from scratch than try to mod it.

Although actually I just remembered one game which still doesn't have a coherent pony mod - Dwarf Fortress. That said, its support for magic is generally lacking, and while you could throw something together to emulate magic by using pretty names and descriptions, it wouldn't really work very well.
With an actual magic system under development, though, it may be an excellent candidate for a pony game, given its flexibility and complexity. Unfortunately, by now the fandom's nowhere big enough for there to be enough people who like ponies AND dwarf fortress for there to be someone willing to put in the time required for something like that.
So that's actually a good answer to your question then. I'd wait till Dwarf Fortress gets a proper magic system, then mod the shit out of it to make an equestria simulator.

With some creativity you could maybe make custom reactions do what you want. Depends on exactly what effects you want "magic" to have, I guess. The existing pony mod uses them to give unicorns a "freezing spray" attack spell. You can also use them to define custom crafting recipes, so you could maybe add a way of crafting "enchanted" items.

I'm sort of attempting to overhaul Wargus into a pony mod, similar to one that already exists but using that Aleona's Tales version of Wargus so people don't need to buy Warcraft 2 just to play it, but the multiplayer is broken right now so idk how long it'll be before I can get some substantial progress on it.

Using those (overused) 3D pony models, I've rendered out a sprite sheet of ponies to use as peasants in Wargus. Due to limited colors, it looks like ass up close, but looks alright ingame. Also changed some sounds to be higher quality, and changed Gold to Gemstones and Oil to (Liquid) Rainbow. I also made Farms into the Ponyville houses.

Not too much work done yet, but it's going fairly smoothly.

Off the top of my head, probably one of the old Legends of Zelda. It seems to be the closest to ponies when it comes to the spirit of things.

The 2D Zelda's are some of the easier ones to make graphical hacks of, since they use sprites that you can edit in something like the program YY-CHR.

This. You can literally change everything about the original Zelda - up to and including changing the memory values in real time, provided you use a proper emulator - so you can basically make your own game out of it, too.

For the later ones that's slightly harder but something like link to the past has support for cutscenes and stuff already, and I think there are easy and well-documented ways to make rom hacks.

It still wouldn't be too easy since you'd need to sprite everything relevant + make a good storyline + make good maps for everything + script it all, including all the dialogue + flesh out the world, with stuff like background NPCs etc. And that's assuming you don't/can't modify or hack around the base game mechanics to do interesting pony-related stuff.

Alright, got some more progress on renders for this. The Town Hall and Library (which replaces Aleona's Tales' mage tower, allowing you to spawn Twilight/unicorn mages).
The buildings are quite a bit harder to make as I'll have to make some buildings from scratch (e.g. the barracks, docks, etc.), but I'm using premade models where I can to keep from spending lots of time on a single building. The Library was a pain in the ass because no one had a good model except for one with nearly all of the links dead except for one on a 3D print site without textures so I colored the tree after rendering the sprite out.
Again, since Warcraft/Wargus uses a 256 color palette for objects with team colors, it looks kind of limited but not too shabby.
