I think he just lives for the chase. So, he's afraid of having an actual conversation with mares, so we know that the reason he avoided those three delicious mares is because he knows he's shallow. Fuck that was a good episode.

When I first saw the synopsis, I was sure it was going to be crap, but the writers took a mediocre episode concept and turned it into an 8.5/10 episode. There were a lot of moments I thought were genuinely funny, and no moments that felt bad or out of place.

Also sugar belle is top tier cute (especially with those upset facial expressions)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with hating fictitious characters, it is as productive as loving fictitious characters, in the end is just emotional masturbation.

Using the "it´s a 22 minute cartoon" as a reason to invalidate any kind of opinion some can have over anything about the show is very dumb, because if it was valid, then "Mare do Well" and "28 pranks later" are as good episodes as "Sisterhoof Social", "No Second Prances" or "Heartwarming Tail", all these episodes are "22 minute cartoons" so that mean all them are equally good, and any hate they could receive is the product of severe retardation.

Maybe I'm just really late but has anyone else noticed the really odd dialogue and jokes this season? They're really idk "on point" I guess? I don't know the word. But here are some examples

Sweetie Belle saying something about "riding off into the metaphorical sunset".

Sweetie Belle asking who Big Mac was talking to and Scootaloo asking for the binoculars but saying she shouldn't have bothered because she doesn't actually know anyone in this town.

In the Rainbow Dash episode, there was the gag that with the "ahhhhhhh" chorus whenever someone opened the trophy room at the beginning of the episode.

I don't know what it is. It's not that I hate these jokes or dialogue anything. They're actually quite entertaining and fit the characters but they just feel... weird. Maybe too manufactured? I don't know. It's really hard to describe since I really enjoyed these last few episodes a lot but I'm still feeling weird about them. I can't put my finger on why

They feel weird because they're funny to adults and not children. A lot of shows for kids put clever jokes or references in their episodes that only adults will get, partially because the writers themselves are adults, but also so parents can watch the show with their kids and have a laugh or a "I get that reference!" moment.

MLP has been doing this since season one, except it started to really wear its adult jokes and references on its sleeve from season four onward. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it makes it so the show feels a bit different from the old days, and it's the main reason people feel the show has changed even if they can't point out what exactly has changed.

I've always found the adult jokes in MLP obvious and plentiful, so it doesn't feel weird to me. It doesn't really make sense to me to say the show has "really started to wear the adult jokes and references on its sleeve". They are hidden jokes. If you get the joke, its obvious. If not, you ignore it and write it off as just a funny thing a character said. Many jokes are funny for multiple reasons.

"old fiction that takes itself seriously" is usually an illusion. We don't see the references because we don't know them. There is a cultural disconnect, but that's no reason to think references aren't there.

I'd also go with 8/10, the song was meh but I can see why, it must've been a pain to write something as messy as this, while being confined in a couple minutes.
While the story wasn't original, it was the first real 'romance' episode, the other two being simple SoL stupidity. And rarara.
I found bigmac's acting kind of weird, as in, really autistic. But then I remembered that we're their public, so, yeah it was okay.
I'm really happy they got a romance done, correctly and without having to retcon it at the end.
They also picked a secondary char, but not some random guy we won't ever see ever again.
If they don't show some sugarbellexmac action in the background in the episodes from now on tho, I'll be fucking pissed.
