This is far from correct. For a 36'' body you will need at the very least two and most likely 3 if you want any legroom for mistakes. I've never made a 20'' but you could get away comfortable with 2 yards. For manes/tails with a single color, you will need two yards. For manes with multiple colors, you will generally need 1 yard for each.

Can confirm two yards minimum. This is how I laid out my lifesize and a small like 12" plush on two yards. There is probably a better way mathematically speaking but pattern laying doesn't seem to exist in any sort of software.

Real minky (like Shannon brand) is the best as far as any of us know. It's durable, soft, and can be cleaned fairly easily for a napped fabric. There's longer pile variants but they don't act the same as regular minky and are more expensive.

Works well. Just be careful not to overdo it. First time I sprayed few times and it was waaaaaaay too overpowering and lasted for days in that state.

Now I just spray a little bit on my LS Twilights neck so I get a teeny bit of it when snuggling.

Honestly, it kinda depends. Like, if you try to make your own pattern and use sub-optimal materials, its probably going to be shit being your first. Most everyone's that starts out that way is. But if you start with someone else's pattern and use the right stuff, it's probably gonna be pretty decent. Pic related my first one for example...

I had zero knowledge of plush making, so I just used a free pattern. Looking back at it, it was pretty much as if I tried to make my own because it wasn't a very good pattern at all. If you do a bit of research--looking at other patterns and quadruped plushies--you could probably pull off something similar. Even better if you can get the right materials to work with and NOT use felt, fabric paint, and yarn like I did.
