Lesson Zero rides the line finely; on one hand it contains Twilight being a neurotic student, but the end of the episode breaks convention from S1 by making friendship reports come from all the Mane 6. It's the first "S2" S2 episode.
Luna Eclipsed is more S2-ish
Sisterhooves Social, The Cutie Pox, and May the Best Pet Win! are definitely S1-ish
The Mysterious Mare Do Well is more S2
Sweet and Elite is S1
Secret of My Excess is S2
Hearth's Warming Eve is close, but more S2
Family Appreciation Day and Baby Cakes are S1
The Last Roundup is S2 in light of Derpy, S1 otherwise
SSCS6000 is S1
Read It and Weep and Hearts and Hooves Day lean slightly more S1

And then A Friend in Deed comes along, and as soon as "The Smile Song" ends, that's where the series cuts away from the S1 feeling for good. Every episode in S2 afterwards doesn't quite recapture S1's feelings, except for maybe some of Hurricane Fluttershy.

I would say the last third of Season 2 is more akin to Season 3 than it is to its first two-thirds and Season 1. But I still acknowledge that Season 3 feels different from the first two altogether.

Season 1, Episodes 1 - 13 (Frindship is Magic, Part 1 - Fall Weather Friends) is the "Twilight Explores Ponyville" segment, where the setting typically stays in Ponyville and the Mane 6's friendship is just starting out. Yes, technically in starts in Canterlot, and they go into the Everfree Forest and to the dragon's lair in Dragonshy, but it's more or less "Ponyville and its backyard".
Episodes 14 - 26 (Suited for Success - The Best Night Ever) become the "Equestria Comes Knocking" segment, where we start meeting celebrities and going to locations from around the country, starting with Hoity Toity and ending with a gala in Canterlot.
