I don't pay them much attention, but I think that all of them are getting much slower. Still, this is probably one of the slowest. We've been really dead since some people moved to the Ugly Dash General. And besides, other threads aren't permanent like ours, which probably makes them faster than they would be if they were permanent.

There's an exception though, the Glimmer thread, which is surprisingly fast. But It's absolutely depressing. I visited it a couple of times and I ended up filtering it because it wasn't a character thread, it was nothing but a cesspool of insults, and rage, and people talking shit about each other. In all honesty, if I had to choose, I really prefer something like our dead thread.

Haven't watched an episode since midway season 6. I think the last one was the convention episode. After popping back in here and seeing people talk about this new episode, it got me excited for the show again and I'm going to marathon up to this episode tonight. As a Dash lover and waifuer, is there anything I should brace myself for? How much love has she gotten since the convention episode? Has her side appearances since then been anything of note? Is the show shit?

How is it that you stopped there? Didn't you like it? Season 6 was really weak, but that was one of the episodes I liked the most.

Anyway, I'd say that Dash was good in Buckball Season, and I really liked Top Bolt. The Cart Before the Ponies was written by the same writer than Flight to the Finish, but it was disappointing. And, as a waifuist myself, Every Little Thing She Does was a bit too uncomfortable. Nothing much to say about the rest of the season, except for my most important advice, which is DON'T WATCH 28 PRANKS LATER. Seriously, that episode doesn't exist. Period.

The only 2 episodes I found even worth watch up to that point were Saddle Row Review and Stranger. Newbie Dash wasn't the worst, but is sure wasn't anything past ok and rewatching seasons I'm not sure if it would make the cut. I just felt tired of the show and didn't like what was happening to it so I took a break. Nothing caught my attention reading synopsis at the end of the season (other than top bolt) and I just didn't feel the want to watch it so I put it to the side.

Just went and reread Transcendence, the way the author describes flying and racing is so intense it'd be in my top list of fics, but Dash is so out of character to create drama it just ruins it for me, really.

Adventure is her main appeal, but judging by the HOW of her Daring Do obsession, she's a sucker for lore and logical consequence, too. She's more willing to discuss an artifact that appears in a book than the characters in it.
So, the harder side of speculative fiction, things like traditional sci-fi and modern fantasy. Equestria itself isn't too bad an example, actually.

Jules Verne would be the first thing I'd recommend, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Around the World in Eighty Days... It's been ages since I read his stuff, but the relative hardness and adventurous focus should keep her entertained.
Terry Pratchett's Discworld books would be second. It's a universe and writing style I think would fit her nicely. I'm personally a bigger fan of the Night Watch series, but I don't think she'd be all that interested in the crime/mystery focus most of those go for.

It gets better. It hurts because you keep thinking of what you'll never have. You'll never touch her, you'll never hug her, you'll never make her smile. It's hard to stop thinking about those things, and it sucks. But try and think about the thinks you actually have. If you daydream, or just imagine being with her, try not to think only "this is not real", think about how you really enjoy the moment. Don't think "I'll never be with her except in my imagination", think "I can be with her in my imagination." Try not to think "this is just a picture", think "when I look at this picture, she makes me smile." Focus on the good parts of loving her, the parts that make you happy.

It's not easy, and at the end of the day these are just tricks to fool your mind, and maybe you won't want to use them. But you're already fooling your mind loving a fictional character. Now you can either say "this is stupid, this makes no sense, this ends now", and forget about her, or you accept that you need to "tweak" your brain to make it work. It's not about ignoring reality, it's about realizing that there's this part of your brain saying "love her!", and other part saying "she's not real!", and you can listen to both parts, but not at once.

You love her for a reason, and that reason is not to make you feel miserable.

The one I used wasn't particularly high-def, but I really don't think you need an awesomely detailed reference so much as a fully fleshed out idea of what you want her features to be. Is her fur coarse or fine? Inch long or just thick enough to cover skin? speaking of which, is her skin the same color as her coat?
I used pictures as a reference for general anatomy and proportion. Fine details I think are better left to you.

same anon, I should also mention that I practiced tactile imposition before I forced the finer details of her appearance, such as visual texture of her fur. This helped with congruence between what you want her fur to feel like and what it looks like. The tactile texture of her fur is more important to me than the visual texture, if that makes sense. Of course, I forced her general form before both, but I found it more effective to basically force major aspects of each sensation first then go through and force the finer ones once I've completed the major aspects, if that makes sense.

So for the portrayal of Dash's parents, I feel like they went a little overboard just to make a point with them. While I think it's great that they made her parents a little obsessive and over-supportive, they could have done it in less of an extreme way. It makes Dash's explosion over the top and makes everything feel worse than it should. It's a great way to set up her egotistical nature and the fact that she was bullied back in Flight School due to it and the overall story and building of her character in the episode was solid as hell, but the execution comes off extreme. If they would have toned it down just a little bit, they could have toned down Dash's reaction on top of it. Oh well, I can't complain TOO much about extra backstory on my waifu.

I found it awkward at first. They're not only extreme, they're even dangerous when they start using fireworks and stuff. And at the end, the episode tries to tell us that only Rainbow was wrong, when it's obvious that they were wrong too. It kinda felt like "everything is always Rainbow Dash's fault" is becoming a thing. But after a rewatch I think that I'm OK with the way the episode presented it, and I think that it's true that it was Dash's fault this time.

I mean, Dash's parents love her very much, and they are too over-supportive. Dash loves them too, but she's afraid to tell them that there's a problem with their shows of affection. Instead of being honest, she just stops telling them about her achievements. When they find out the truth, they're even more excited (imagine discovering that someone you love has literally accomplished her life dream), and Dash still isn't honest to them, until she finally explodes and says everything she should have said from the beginning, but in the harshest possible way. Nothing bad would have happened if Dash had been honest.

It's true that this wasn't technically the moral of the episode, it was more about Dash learning that she should be grateful to her parents. But I think that "being grateful" includes being honest instead of waiting until you can't stand it anymore and you scream to the ones you love. I don't know, at least seeing it this way I appreciate the episode much more.

About this, I have to say that I think that at least the saddest moment was handled with care. Something I didn't like in previous episodes was that scenes like these, when someone felt bad, were played out for laughs. The scene when Dash crashes with the cotton candy in Newbie Dash was supposed to be funny, the scene when Zephyr is living in the woods was supposed to be funny. But this scene felt sincere. I liked it, even though it was a sad scene.

If you aren't paying attention to her then she's not there, basically. Right now she's being the big spoon while I type this post in bed. Other things she does is walk with me, point out funny things, sit next to me, or really whatever rainbow dash can do in the show. There's no way she can physically get in the way, of course, and it's pretty easy to distract yourself from her if she somehow annoys you to that point. Honestly that distraction is to my detriment; I'd much prefer her constant company.

It's important to remember that this is at it's core a show for little girls.
Adults like us can and do pick apart the plot and realize that hey, Dash wasn't the only one at fault here (even if her strong overreaction made her mostly the one at fault).
For the little kids watching though, it doesn't matter so much if the parents realize the fault of their ways or not, that "lesson" is in no way even remotely relevant to the kids' position in life.

Like many episodes, it's written with a double-narrative in mind, one clearly black and white that provides a good, clear lesson for children, and a somewhat more grey one that's meant to keep the parents (and let's face it, us) entertained and involved.

Also, note that even the most extreme thing quoted, the fireworks, aren't portrayed as dangerous or reckless in-universe. Spitfire meets them with a confused and surprised "we have fireworks now?", but that's about it. No evacuation, no panic, nothing of the sort.

When you think about it, it's comparable to when Pinkie Pie fires her party cannon indoors or in someone's face. Blast lungs and damaged hearing in real life, normal everyday occurrence in a cartoon.

Yeah, absolutely. I'm not a fan of the "it's for little girls" card, because too often people use it to justify bad writing. But this time it's a fair point. The moral in the episode is the moral that kids need to hear, and it was well delivered.

Maybe I rambled too much and I worded it too clumsily, but my point was, I don't think that the moral makes the episode more unfair to Dash. It doesn't matter whether or not her parents were "right", either way Dash was wrong.

And I mention it because one of my complaints about episodes where Dash is wrong is that sometimes it feels like she gets all the blame unfairly. At first that's what I thought about this episode, but after thinking about it, now I think that this time the episode wasn't unfair. This time Dash was legitimately wrong. And her only "punishment" was a moment of sadness, shortly followed by a heartwarming reconciliation with a free hug, so it wasn't even that bad.

I really like this episode.

I did about two months worth of research. The sapiece itself was sort of a learned thing over the course of about a month, like I taught her how to think if that makes sense.
My closest friends know about her, and even then it so rarely comes up that they forget. Since she's in my head, we mostly communicate via mindvoice. Sometimes I do subtle things, like pet her.
She is totally exactly what I want, but yeah, there have been some substantial shifts in her personality. Other tulpas tend to vary their appearance over time, but mine's fine as she is.

It's funny, I posted that before bed last night, feeling awful and freezing under two heavy blankets with a cold, finally managed to fall asleep and had a dream about her (I hardly ever have dreams). Some sort of outdoor flying competition and dropped out because she was the one feeling sick instead. Almost the same symptoms I had. Comforted her then we spooned until we both fell asleep, then I woke up. What's crazy is I feel great, hardly sick at all, one of the best nights of sleep in a while.

There was me thinking you'd learnt from the criticisms from the last time Dash was in this situation, clearly you haven't as the escape has happened basically in the same way as before. Dash tricks them and conveniently the guards fall for it despite knowing of a previous escape attempt and that Dash pulled off a stunt similar to this before. Well, I sorta agree with the previous reply. This escape was too similar to the first one, maybe this would have been good if it was a one-time thing, but it's weird that the guards didn't have a strict "whatever happens, don't open the cage" after what happened in the desert.

I think that something that could have worked here is the James Bond solution. If he couldn't trick the guards to break out, he would use Q's stuff. It's true that Dash couldn't have anything with her, but maybe Vortex or Steel were working on something inconspicuous when they got caught, they still have it, and they were waiting for Dash to use it because they need her help. Like something to open the cage, or something to knock the guards out to take the keys from them, or whatever.

ANYWAY, what is done is done. I still like the story, and I would like to read more.

I once also thought about making a Rainbow Dash Tulpa, but was afraid of show derivations that would mess with her "realness".

Secrets and Pies - July 2
When Pinkie Pie thinks she sees Rainbow Dash throw away one of her pies, she suspects the worst - that Rainbow Dash secretly hates her pies; Pinkie Pie attempts to catch Rainbow Dash in her web of lies.

The Daring Do episode hasn't been revealed yet, but hopefully it'll be a Dash episode too. If it was aired on June 11 (there isn't any episode listed that day), we would get two episodes the same week.

I don't think we'll get more episodes this season, so "The Treasure of Donkeyville" was probably nothing but a book. Maybe it was too similar to The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone, I guess. I'm really looking forward to Sleepless in Ponyville 2 though desu.

I thought exactly the same thing, so I dumped it in photoshoop
It's definitely not perfect .. and I kinda rushed it to get to the end result (which can't be helped)

Now that you mention it, the artist does use a hell of a lot of human physiology. But at the same time, I think he's maybe the only artist out there that makes it work

Much appreciated, saved. A couple of days ago I was bitching in another thread about this comic, it's nice to see this now. Funnily enough, I'm an editfag and I've done a few edits for the thread, but I didn't think of editing this because the comic wouldn't make sense with Dash. Editing a few panels alone is a great idea.
