Nobody really gives two shits about Mane 5 in EqG movies. They're the necessary evil, the copies of Mane 5 from the show that should be there because otherwise it's not MLP anymore. Nobody is gonna develop them because it would be incredibly retarded to see them go through the same things Mane 5 already did. Their purpose is to be a bunch of friends for actual important characters (Sunset and Sci-Twi) to lean on in their development and not be too annoying. This was accomplished pretty well in Friendship Games where they all had personalities. All the other movies did this with varying degress of success.
So yes, it is forgivable for Sunset to steal the spotlight from Mane 5 in EqG because it's not about them. But as far as I know, FiM is still more or less about the original Mane 6, and Starlight stealing the spotlight is less forgivable.

Tell me, how is the Mane 6 on MLP going to get even more characterization and screentime when they've learned most of the things they need, their adventures have turned extremely political affairs and we have another bunch of secondary characters that didn't get much of screen time before and are to have even more personality now?
