If you didn't see the end of season 3, Twilight is an alicorn. The CMC got their cutie marks and are growing up. Rainbow Dash got into the Wonderbolts. Rarity has opened boutiques in Canterlot and Manehattan and has become pretty successful. Discord is banging Fluttershy. Changelings got reformed and look gay as sin now. Applejack and Pinkie are mostly unchanged.

Season 3 was pretty objectively the worst season of the show. Season 4 was alright, 5 was good, 6 was also good. So far Season 7 appears to be pretty fucking fantastic, and if things keep up it might be better than Season 2.

Many people are mad that she's stealing airtime from mane 6. Other people see here as a breath of fresh air, because it's just hard to keep writing about the same characters for this long and avoiding flanderization. She's brought her own package of mental issues and illnesses into the show and created interesting dynamic with several side characters.
As for negatives, the backstory as she conveyed it was a bit weak, she's very powerful unicorn (too powerful according to some people) and she has sociopathic tendencies which lead to her fucking shit up few times after which she apologized and was forgiven.
