Let's exam shall we:

- essentially saved from starvation the king of changelings, a group which have the capability of building a throne that can stop the two sisters and discord, and whom have taken down three pony cities at once
- was, and helped to power, the current dragon lord who can control dragons the size of mountains and whom can stand boiling lava, many of which have a deep seeded haterd for ponies
- hero of the Crystal Empire with a sizable following and consideration/family(?) with the princess there who has bowed to him
- worship like a god with the buffalo, who have actually started a war with ponies and can survive the bare lands

So even if Twilight kicks Spike out today and disowns him, Spike has enough back up and clout to start a land of his own. He can even makeup some bullshit reason about a place for non ponies and at least half of above mention would help him overthrow an Equestria city to make his own.
