Pinkie's unpredictability was always one of her strong suits as a character, as well as her role as a comic relief. I agree it becomes obnoxious when overdone, but I don't feel the show has passed that line so far.

Starlight Glimmer is a bad character.

I could write a few thousand words on Glimmer as a villain, but the issue isn't what a dumb villain Starlight is, and how her terrible backstory turned what could have been a great villain into a bad joke almost as much as a badly-written and rushed redemption removed her reason to exist. I could also write quite a bit about how stupid it is that she has the magical power to fight Alicorn Princess Twilight Sparkle to a standstill, the reserves to do this multiple times in a day, the knowledge to create her own spells on the spot, and so on when Twilight's supposed to be the Embodiment of the Element of Magic, a student of Princess Celestia, the strongest Unicorn alive, etc. Twilight had to face character challenges related to this. What are they worth if she's not the strongest, or even anything remotely special when compared to a pony that can tear the Cutie Marks off multiple ponies like they're stickers, screw up the timeline multiple times in a day, without the changed timeline affecting herself, fight Alicorn Princess Twilight Sparkle to a standstill multiple times in a day, brainwash the minds of five of the Mane Six in less than a few seconds, move five billion times faster than the speed of light, and slay fire demons with her magic burning katana- whoops, my eyes drifted to the feat list for the wrong Mary Sue.

It was never suppose to dominate her entire character. The jokes on her taking advantage of being a cartoon pony are suppose to be seen but not acknowledge. Pinkie and Spike have their comedy abilities but still have real physical limits and problems at the end of the day. Making Pinkie being able to DEM out of situations and no longer needing hard work and effort put into her craft but lol muh random lever is insulting to the character and what she was built up from.

It does pass the line when the jokes for Pinkie as "the 4th wall random one" gets in the way of how she would act when a friend of hers is in pain (Filli Vanilli).

No, she has a lot of energy and has been baking for most of her life so she's very good at it. You could just as easily look at this as a cartoon character being a cartoon character, Pinkie or otherwise, since in other scenes it's been shown that some of her baking takes entire days (i.e. Lost Treasure of Griffonstone).

Are we not counting the one she arranged almost immediately for Luna in the second episode of the show? If you want a more autistic explanation, we know Pinkie's been learning more and more elaborate ways to set this stuff up- see also, party cannon- and has tried some of it out in Twilight's castle.

Pinkie's been living with the Cakes for years. It's not implausible that they'd let her use their basement to store what amounts to a bunch of file cabinets.

Let's not forget that Pinkie's been pulling crazy contraptions out of thin air since season 1. Remember that flying machine from Griffon the Brush Off? That aspect of her character has actually become less common since the early days.

In season one she was consistent in needing the girls help in set up functions and Pinkie had limits; she couldn't set up Pinkie Pride tier parties on the fly; Spike and Twilight had to help when Celestia would come to town; she had to admit AJ was a better baker; Pinkie need time and effort to gather instruments to drive away the parasprites and still asked for help; her methods just wouldn't work sometimes on crowds;Pinkie even forget her own birthday being so preoccupy.

Now, BANG everything's ready, BANG cooking cake with Glim Glam without being there. BANG file on everyone without having learn. It's like Starlight without magic.

No it's called and looks like a "secret party cave" meaning Pinkie made it herself without anyone's knowledge. And yeah it is plausible that a couple not related to her, that's even hesitant about her watching the store after years of her working for them would let her randomly carve up their foundation to store her junk in after the board she already gets from them.

And Spike randomly pulls out contraptions too. I don't see the narrative shifting on it's axis for his benefit every scene he's in. Actually at best, from looking at Princess Spike the opposite happens. And you know what, that makes it even more interesting if he has to put extra effort at solving problems than just have things fall into place for him.

How about when the show does something strange, you look at it and think "is there still a possible explanation for this", not "this could be bad writing, so it must be"? I've seen a lot of critics around /mlp/ failing to remember this principle. It leads to all sorts of complaints that could have been resolved if a little more time and thought had been put into the subject.

By "not there", I was under the impression you meant physically. All of the main six retained their knowledge and abilities while under the mind control spell- even traces of their personalities. I don't like the episode much, but I don't think Pinkie Pie was the problem with it, and it's not as though she's been rendered overpowered in situations where it seriously affected the plot.
