/mlp/ is officially dead. Everyone was using the hiatus as an excuse to deny the reality that this place is a husk of what it used to be. The entire fandom is still chugging along at a comfy pace but this corner of the internet is all but dead . I don't even care what caused it , or when it started to happen , but it's over now. I'll remember this place fondly , but it's time to say goodbye . Join me brothers , let us remember the good old days before we say farewell to our old home

This just in, Anonymous user declares Pony board to be dead. This announcement confirmed suspicions that every other declaration of the board's death has in fact been false. "It's time to say goodbye" says anonymous user, who is somehow known across the board as the Arbiter of Dead and Alive Things, and official dead-caller of /mlp/. The ADAT, marking the occasion with a picture of a crying Spike the Dragon, took time from his busy schedule of "being sad that people aren't posting as much at fucking 5 AM EST on a Sunday night" to give a brief speech to the board: "... Let us remember the good old days before we say farewell to our old home"

In other news, thousands of autistic furries have filed for refugee status upon hearing that their home is now gone. Several countries have already refused to house them. More at 11.

It's dead already Anon , dont be in denial . Just because you and like 20 other people post in 12 separate generals doesn't mean it's alive, it means you literally have no where else to go
>>
>>29991098

There have always been generals. There was always shitposting, but over the last 2 years, new episode threads and discussion has become slower and slower and there are fewer and fewer threads for that. It shows a lack of people who actually care about the show. The fact that there are new episodes airing right now and the front page is still nothing but these generals and cyoa's should be enough proof that most of the people who actually cared about the show have up and disappeared. I know you wish it was like it used to be or maybe you don't even know what it used to be like, but this sure as fuck isn't what it was. Screencap threads, reaction face threads, and discussion threads would fill the front page for days after a new episode came out. We're lucky if there's enough people to talk about it on the day it comes out.
>>
>>29991123

Yeah I don't believe you. The golden age is over, the show should be over too. Dragging the corpse of a loved one in a parade around the city won't make you any favors with their loved ones - just bury the corpse with dignity.
>>
>>29990986
No it's not over, shut up now.
>>
>>29991927
>just bury the corpse with dignity.
Kinda tough to make dignity a concern when the corpse you're talking about is a 22 min toy commercial. So many here are like, "Wow, this toy commercial has really started to suck lately". The fact that there was ever a point when it didn't suck is what's amazing. There were three and a half generations of MLP before FiM, and they all sucked. The fact the show didn't suck for a couple seasons is the anomaly, not the fact that it sucks now.
>>
>>29991927

This. I would've much rather the show end sooner on a more positive note, than get lackluster episodes.

Hell, almost every episode from S1-S4 had new waifus, dank maymays, generated ideas, and discussion. Now, this isn't happening.

>>
>>29991971
I don't see it as the least bit sad. We knew this was coming. Derpygate was the first warning. Canterlot Wedding was the second time it became obvious - they just pulled off the episode well enough that we could continue to ignore it. But then an 11 episode S3 that ends with Twilight becoming an alicorn princess?! It was over. We just stuck around because we wanted our pone fix, and what the show became was still better than no pone. But at this point the show has kinda sucked longer than it was good. So a lack of fan enthusiasm shouldn't really much of a surprise to anyone.

The fandom is fine, whats dyeing is the anti fandom of /mlp/. Surprisingly either people like ponies and talk about how much they like about them or don't care.

No one wants to hang about talking constantly about how much something sucks and was better few years ago, if you miserable fucks left the board would pick up again because its (You) that driving all the traffic away with your whining and shitting on people who say they like things.

>>29992317
Ok, I'll give you a citation. I literally went over to the 4tan archives, and then calculated the post total for each board during the first half of April.
This is the top 20 fastest boards during that time frame:
1. /pol/ ~2.1M posts
2. /b/ ~1.7M posts
3. /v/ ~1.4M posts
4. /vg/ ~1.3M posts
5. /a/ ~662K posts
6. /int/ ~621K posts
7. /tv/ ~534K posts
8. /co/ ~375K posts
9. /r9k/ ~364K posts
10. /mu/ ~298K posts
11. /trash/ ~291K posts
12. /sp/ ~289K posts
13. /tg/ ~253K posts
14. /g/ ~232K posts
15. /fit/ ~173K posts
16. /k/ ~166K posts
17. /vp/ ~118K posts
18. /mlp/ ~103K posts
19. /asp/ ~103K posts
20. /lgbt/ ~89K posts

And btw, I also calculated the monthly post total for /mlp/, and it went something like this.

>November 2016: 192324 posts
>December 2016: 193947 posts
>January 2017: 214226 posts
>February 2017: 201691 posts
>March 2017: 192656 posts
>April 2017: 211330 posts
As of right now, November 2016 happens to be the slowest month on record for the board, a record which will probably be broken once the hiatus starts up again.
>>
>>29992363
Smaller is better because the people in it actually care about the content.

Nothing pissed me off like phonies that say they are fans of X but have only causally watched/read a small bit of X a decade ago.
They wander round in the merch, declaring themselves fans to look unique and interesting but its really just a disingenuous band aid for a shallow personality.
>>
>>29992389
Wow, I didn't know /pol/ was so active. No wonder people conflate /pol/ with all of 4chan on the outside.
>>
>>29992410
I knew it was popular but I didn't expect it to more popular than /b/. /v/ is expected.
>>
>>29992406
Hence why I don't call myself a brony or part of the fandom anymore. I have my comfy MLP message board that I've posted on for five years, but it's not as though I am a part of the largest boards, the places that probably would be most representative of the fandom i.e. It therefor seems odd to call myself part of something I barely interact with. One of the reasons I shied away from 4chan for the longest time was that I naturally ere towards small and familiar and not a maelstrom of faceless comments buzzing by like a packed chat box.
>>
>>29992410
Reddit and other scum have flooded in thanks to the Trump campaign and autistic right retards bragging everywhere online about it. There really needs to be another /pol/-harbour, it'll actually improve the userbase like /mlpol/ did.
>>
>>29992208
There were many of uis who didn't give a shit about the fandom beyond a source of spaghetti spilling keks. We were here because we loved the show, and this was the one place we could discuss it without revealing our powerlevels. So it would make sense that as the show became progressively less lovable we'd be discussing that instead of worrying about the fandom.
>>
>>29992208
>More and more people leaving over time citing that the show became shit means activity will increase.

It's a board dedicated to a single thing, of course it won't be able to compete with broader boards. /vp/ is practically the same as us, how is that a surprise? And /co/ is only triple our size despite it being every other cartoon aside from /mlp/. Use your fucking head.

>>29992596

>>
>>29992546
No, if you leave and take your shitty attitude with you other people might actually come back to the board.
>>
>>29992612
Exactly
And eventually when people get bored and stop doing CYOAs and greens, the board will become like 1/3 the speed it has now.
So enjoy the literal end. And at that speed it is very likely the mods nuke it since it will be only 100 fags left and they won't matter.
>>
>>29992621
I don't think that will happen, even when the board is as fast as /po/ they won't delete it. Deleting it means removing rule 15, and they'll never do it. So in five years we'll be standing in a ghost board.
>>
>>29992629
Or they can delete it and not remove the GR15, because they know you got 8ch and ponychen

>>
>>29992629
>So in five years we'll be standing in a ghost board.
So far, that's unlikely.
These are the stats for /mlp/'s yearly post total:
2015: ~4.7 million posts
2016: ~3.2 million posts
2017: projected for ~2.4 million posts

Assuming that the show doesn't end, GR15 stays in place, and the board has a consistent decay rate of 75%, the board will probably end up with around 583K posts during 2022.

At that point, the board becomes similar to /toy/ or /vr/, at the point where the post rate becomes less than the current median of the boards, which is /sci/ at ~35K posts, but just barely below the median.
>>
>>29992682
In layman's terms, we are still one of the faster boards on 4chan and it will stay that way for quite some time.
>>
>>29992682
also there was about 5.83 million in 2014
>>
>>29992776
why isnt this shit a banable offense yet?

we have this shitty threads every single day since I can remember.

this seems like a good place to ask though, whay other sites are there for mlp that still has lots of traffic? I went to ponychan a while back and it seemed dead, only had a handful of boards where it used to be a shitload. where do 'bronies' hang out now? ore are they all gone?

No. The whole fandom is dieing. If you've been to Cons you can see that, less and less content creators make stuff for Pony every day. Less people are using Pony image boards. Less people can be arsed to show up to conventions that major voice actresses are attending.

The entire fandom is dying and if the MLP Movie is bad it's all over.
>>
>>29992919
I remembered that eqd has a forum, and ponychan has a discord so I just checked them out.
eqd has 2000 members, ponychan discord has about 70 people.

and what the hell happened to ponychan? I left in season 3 because I kept getting banned for even mentioning that porn exists, or saying something racist every day, now I went there and all the threads on /chat/ are /pol/ tier, the discord even has a nsfw channel with porn in it. its like im realy on 4chan (just slower).

I never realy realized how the rest of the fandom shrinked, when was the peak? looking at eqd and conventions it seems like the core of the fandom that contributes and actively participates hasnt shrunk that much though. I think this is the first thing that became a fad that I was part of before it became a fad, and am still a part of afterwards.

gained speed during and after season 1 when people discovered it was a new and different kind of show that was enjoyable. reached full speed during season 2 when the show itself reached a good stride and liking it still made you an outcast. season 3 was about when it started gaining mainstream attention and subsequently the twilicorn incident. by season 4 liking ponies no longer made you some fringe group. the content creator market got flooded and the supply dominated over demand. many content creators moved on to find other fringe groups to pander to that had a high demand and low supply. undertale and fnaf spring to mind.

in other words, those who were here to be part of the bandwagon and those who were here just to make money have left. im sure some people left for a wide variety of other reasons but those are the main two. whats left are people who really do genuinely like ponies.
>>
>>29993034
>I never realy realized how the rest of the fandom shrinked, when was the peak?
February 2013, probably? That month alone had ~858K posts. 46K alone being on the day of the Season 3 finale, which is sadly more than the board can make in an entire WEEK nowadays.
>>
>>29993112
>whats left are people who really do genuinely like ponies.
the bandwagoners annoyed the shit out of me during season 3-4 and I was lookign forward to the day they left. now I have mixed feelings about it. I just hope the group of real pony lovers stabilizes at a relatively high level for the next couple of years.

Ahahahahaha.

God how much I wish the last 100 posters were die-hard season 1 elitists with a bit of brain inside their heads.
But nope, we instead get die-hard Mexican and Brazil hasdrones, shitposters, deniers, smug deniers, unfunny witty assholes without any wits in them. and a giant fuck you, the show is still good that's why we have zero cartoon threads about it and why 80% of the board is green text erotica central.

Real great and honest board, family.
>>
>>29992208
Remember kids. Shills and communists have a mental disease. They're genuinely incapable of realizing their cancer is killing the whole thing and they should fuck off and they die. They instead go the survivalist way and infect the whole country instead of selflessly and humbly killing themselves for the betterment of everyone. Like a fat guy who refuses to get off the boat and sinks us all.
>>
>>29993307
dang with all these insecurities I'm surprised you don't have your own bodygaurd.

Season 3 was bad, it drove away a lot of fans, I would know I was one of them. I came back recently, but I did so on a whim, most people won't just return and will move on.
Now the fandom is dwindling, it doesn't matter what the quality of the show is.

I'll agree with that. We tuned in to watch the trainwreck of Faust selling out to Hasbro and got touched in a way we didn't expect. It was relentlessly girly, but in a cute and charming way, very much unlike the previous generations. We weren't prepared for that, and it hit us like a ton of bricks. Then a good chunk of what made online interaction with each other interesting was that we were still surprised at ourselves for enjoying it (so fucking much) in the first place. We were still kind of laughing at our secret shame over following the adventures of Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle. That was part of the allure. It's not as much fun now that it's become a very narrowly focused furry 2.0.
