No, the answer is not "friendship"
They fight until there is a winner and a loser, using all of the abilities they have at their disposal.
The battle begins in a flat grassy area near Ponyville, but could range all over time and space
No other pony interferes, this is strictly between them.
Who wins?
No matter who wins...S7 will be mediocre

I'm not going to argue this pointless shit, so I'll let my penis be the judge. Twilight wins.

The writers worfed Twi to make Starlight seem more powerful.
Shitty writing does not mean Starlight is any better.

By all means twilight should btfo of glimmer like completely, the fact that glimmer and twilight are on equal footing ,or shall I say hoofing, in a straight up fight really speaks volumes on how much a Mary Sue poochie is
Starlights more prone to emotional instability which Twilight could exploit.
Starlight is also more sociopathic and would probably distract and tire out Twilight by endangering innocents.
Flurry Heart is the real winner.

You all forget one important thing:
Starlight is a unicorn. A member of her species and race.
She would tire out especially fast trying to incapacitate but not killing her. Twilight didn't try to defeat her while Starlight tried everything to destroy her. Subsequentially this exhaustion broke Starlight's mind and made her more open to influence.

If the show followed any semblance of logic and coherence, Twilight would win. But seeing as Poochie is the writers' pet and as such she just HAS to be better than everyone else, she would win.

I couldn't say. Starlight arguably has more raw power, but Twilight has a better understanding of magic, plus she can think of some unconventional ways to use it.
