Thread 2!

(Thread was formerly named "Anons in Equestria: A New Beginning")

A weird event has caused a large number of humans, particularly posters on /mlp/, to disappear from Earth and wake up in the land of Equestria as a pony (or Griffon), and none of them have cutie marks. With the sheer number of “trans-dimensional refugees”, the Royals have decided the best course of action would be to send them all to the expanding southeastern Equestrian frontier. The Royals have sent some bare supplies and materials to get started, and the Equestrians have set up a humble embassy staffed with advisors.

You and your fellow horsefuckers must work together to make this town flourish, explore, and tame the regional area.

Make a character (can be Earth, Pegasus, Unicorn, Zebra, or Griffon) and join the Discord: https://discord.gg/DpqMkfz

The point of this game is content creation consisting of writefagging, artfagging, roleplay, and PnP Quests (we need GMs!)

The town lives or dies by the will of the people through out-of-character choices regarding city-building and resource management discussed in the thread, as well as in-character events which occur during the course of play.

(The town is located in the red circle pointed to in the bottom right quadrant of the Equestrian map)

NO RP IN THREAD!

Some folks think that the day planner idea of earning bits and stat increases shouldn't be done. Mostly in the direction of the stats increasing as it would lead to long time players having a leg up over new players which i think is rather silly since you would expect new people to not be as good at stuff the veterens have been doing before.

That issue and the fact that we need to fully discuss this idea first before implementing it was heavily mentioned as well. There was also alot of talk about using the Kingmaker system, or at least parts of it that fit with our little game here instead of making the whole game Kingmaker the Thread/Game. IIRC most people had an issue with the roles and the rulership system that was put in place. For an idea of what the roles are and what they do see below.

In Kingmaker if you don't have someone to fill certain roles then the kingdom as awhole is hit by penalties for vacancy

Ruler "A kingdom without a ruler cannot claim new hexes, create farmlands, build roads, or purchase city districts.
Increase Unrest by 4 during each Upkeep phase in which the kingdom has no ruler."
Councilor Decrease Loyalty by 2; the kingdom cannot gain benefits from festivals. Increase Unrest by 1 during each Upkeep phase in which the kingdom has no Councilor.
General Decrease Stability by 4.
Grand Diplomat Decrease Stability by 2; the kingdom cannot issue Promotion Edicts.
High Preist Decrease Stability and Loyalty by 2. Increase Unrest by 1 during each Upkeep phase in which the kingdom has no High Priest.
Magister Decrease Economy by 4
Marshal Decrease Economy by 4
Party Planner A kingdom without a Party Planner suffers no vacancy penalty.
Spymaster "Reduce Economy by 4 because of out-of-control
crime. Increase Unrest by 1 during each Upkeep phase in which
the kingdom has no Spymaster."
Treasurer Reduce Economy by 4; the kingdom cannot collect taxes.
Warden Reduce Loyalty by 4 and Stability by 2.

I saw before the thread went down that people wanted to aim for more of a council instead of a bunch of rulers over everyone else? Would the titles listed above still make sense then as I personally thought that having some incentive to grow into more towns than just the one singular town would have been kinda great. After all you take a hop over to /qst/ they have like half their page filled with civ threads all the time.

As for NPC's who manage the roles I feel like we should most defitly fill them out a bit so we can get a good grasp on how the town is being handled. I have a few options right now actually.

Feather Quill - Earth Pony mare who was shipped down with the rest of us to help take in the various demands and needs that we need and is generally in charge of sending out those exotic orders that we don't have in town. Kind, polite and even tempered Feather Quill tries her best with the short amount of time that she can dedicate to the new ponies who arrived in her homeland.

For her I'd say she would fit the counciler role or something like that fills the will of the people since she has to deal with our autistic bunch of fools all the time.

There was one other fellow that I had in the running for holding a title until our player base manages to replace him. Strong Ton, a pegasus stallion that works as a Royal Guard of the Two Sisters. Mostly works as head of security for the embassy we have in our little township has been stressed with the recent crimes that have been going around the town [mainly the attempted rapes. In addition to two murders down by a infected pony with Timberwolf venom] I would say he could hold the title of Warden since he's mostly been in charge of the Embassy security instead of the town.

Of course I could make more, but I'd like to see what everyone else might have in mind.
>>
>>29988707
I agree with you on the planner part. I think it makes perfect sense for older players to have more experience then new ones. If that wasn't the case, what would be the point of trying to progress if everyone is the same anyways?
Gotta make yourself stand out from the crowd somehow
>>
>>29988707
i think the day planner is great and makes perfect sense. join late and maybe you get handed a few points based on background but arent fully brought up to speed compared to old players.

As for the Positions, my thoughts were this:

All Leadership positions form a council that they rule.

ones i think make sense(though names can be changed):

The Councilor ensures that the will of the citizenry is represented.
The Diplomat oversees international relations.
The High Priest guides the kingdom’s religious needs and growth.
The Magister guides a kingdom’s higher learning and magic.
The Marshal helps organize patrols and enforces justice in rural and wilderness regions
The Treasurer organizes tax collection, and manages the treasury.
The Warden leads the kingdom’s defense and city guards.

As for Kingdom maker, i like it alot, though the info for it was poorly given. theres some changes that can be made to make it less restricting, but it shouldn't be scrapped or have no consequences.

The economy needs a full rework though.

So, quick question, how the fuck do you guys plan on avoiding the drama of previous games? What's to prevent some of the old faggots from doing the old song and dance routine again?

Not to say that this will fail, but there's a track record here.

>>29988824
it would help if someone explained more.

all ive been told is "It just lasted long enough that people thought it was past time for the end game."

and two snipets about "Someone whining til they got their way," and "some people abusing their positions of power."

Make sure to link to the previous threads, guys. Don't want to lose that info. Maybe we should have a doc with links to all the old threads for archival purposes.
>>
>>29988834

There's numerous reasons, and each writer had their own issues with the previous game. From things as small as dice rolling to things as large as wanting to rip out the entire concept and replace it with a 5 man adventure on a boat.
>>
>>29988843
archiving past threads is a good idea yes.

>>29988855
thats...well i can see how that would cause problems yes.

i suggest we then hammer the games base out quickly and then not let it budge, though ive always liked letting different GMs do their own thing within reason.

Awesome!
So things we need are
>Layout of the town
>What everyone gets when they enter
>Decide currency and how much each person gets if any.
>Banks, yes or no.
>What all buildings are in town, and what they hold
>Jobs. How do they work?
>Houses. Yes or no. I keep getting mixed answers here and so far everyone is in tents. Is this an actual town we are in or empty land with buildings?
>If we don't have houses, how should we go about building them?
>If we do have tents, where the hell do I go to keep all the stuff I' working on? I plan to chop some trees down and use the wood to make things. Can't exactly store it in a tent.
>Compile all this information and post it at the beginning of the thread so that newcomers know what to do instead of asking the same question in the discord 20 times over like I do.
>>
>>29988967
arent all of those mildly common sense?

>>29988987
>Layout of the town
i say stick to the squares like we have them, makes sense to me as its a very functional way to make a town.

>What everyone gets when they enter.
this does need to be more better said, as everyones has just assumed 50 Bronze Bits, a Saddlebag, and basically anything else.

i technically gave myself 'more' ill admit but with backstory somewhat giving reason, which i dont see any problem with so long as its nothing OP.

>Decide currency and how much each person gets if any.
so far it seems kinda random, with currency Being Bronze bits -> Silver bits -> Gold bits, but with no one agreeing on what anything should cost or the conversion rates.

>Banks, yes or no.
if we build one.

>What all buildings are in town, and what they hold.
were using the kingdom builder to a degree, the towns already somewhat been built.

>Jobs. How do they work?
so far its a free for all for common jobs, with leadership positions still being talked about.

>Houses. Yes or no. I keep getting mixed answers here and so far everyone is in tents. Is this an actual town we are in or empty land with buildings?
this confuses me too, as the descriptions didnt say how many ponies can fit in each housing district, so i assumed we had enough for all to be living in houses.

>If we don't have houses, how should we go about building them?
like ive said, i like the Kingdom builder system overall, though it needs some tweaks. we also have so far already used it and would basically have to start over if we fully stop, which i dont tihnk anyone wants to do.

>Compile all this information and post it at the beginning of the thread so that newcomers know what to do instead of asking the same question in the discord 20 times over like I do.
i agree.
>>
>>29989019
wait, so like, everyone has a house? Or are there cramped ass housing complexes where everyone has to try and fit into?
>>
>>29989019
Also, if we get bits, how can we spend them?
>>
>>29989037
"A number of mid-sized houses for citizens. Houses serve as prerequisites for many other buildings. The first house you build during any Improvement Phase does not count against the total number of buildings you can build during the phase. "

I guess each one is a small apartment like building with small apartments.
>>
>>29989040
so far its been up to GMs to decide what shops have, or i THINK a few people have asked the overall game runners. (Rain.D and Sammer i think)? for what they can order.

but its kinda up in the air right now.
>>
>>29989019
>>29988987
Well we can just have the basic kit you start out with be the thing you said there with something along the lines of maybe 10 feet of rope, a pick ax that can turn into a shovel if needed and that might be it.

For currency there was some misunderstandings there but last I checked it was 10 coppers to a silver, 10 silvers to a gold. If we need to get back to that we can.

Banks are a thing I think in the kingmaker build list that or its under guild hall.

>What buildings we have
2 mills, 2 farms, 1 smithy and 3 blocks of housing units for middle class folks. Which speaking of should have all been completed and we all been living in, but because of this two week delay for muh rp we can't just say they sprout up over night and just enjoy the houses.

>Jobs
Same, free for all if it's something that requires work then it's do able. Though certain buildings do allow for certain jobs, such as the blacksmith being one since we have a smithy to being a farmer or miller at the mills.

Houses are at this point completed because I am not having us do the real life equaling game life. Houses should be done at least enough for our first amount of population that we have going on here. More growth will come in time I suppose since some buildings require housing units to even be built.

>Compiling
What all are the 20 questions everyone needs to know I could work on that.
>>
>>29989068
>currency

my bet is 50 Bronze-> 1 Silver, 20 Silver -> 1 Gold

100 for 1 was too high but i feel like 10 for 1 is just mildly too low.
>>
>>29989037
>>29989040
Essentially yes. Houses are done, they are middle class tier houses which would include a standard kitchen, bedroom and storage room set up with bathroom as well. Granted if you want running water we'll need to work on that at some point or another so far it's mostly been outhouses and the like.

As for bits you can spend them just give me a Pm or Sameer as well. However depending on the item it might cost more, that being said because we have a smithy you can look up any standard DnD equipment list for an idea on price for weapons. That being said I think we might have to hash out what basic simple system is still needed for characters because mainly I've been using the day planner as a way to let people not only earn bits, but also grind skills to slowly evolve their character based on what they've done.

That being said I had some balance issues I wanted to discuss. Since people want adventures and have some pretty good rewards out of them for their gains in those adventures would having them be doubled what you would earn by working that same day be good?

As it is right now in teh Dayplanner the set up goes like this.

Morning:
Afternoon:
Evening:

Each of those you describe something simple about what you did, if you worked at the farm for example you'd gain some bits and gain some endurance. If you did that all day by the end of if you'd have somewhere around a gold bit and three points to your endurance score to the first tier which would allow you to have a +1 to any rolls involving hard work and staying awake after being hit really hard.

Now with an adventure I was thinking depening on what occured it would be worth double the amount of points earned. I was thinking either 6 because you used those skills in combat or in the field or just 2 because it would depend on how much time in game you spent on your quest.

Thoughts?
>>
>>29989089
Maybe not as high as that? Thing is that I was basing your rate of pay as not being literal pennies like I had thought at first to something that was still liveable. That reminds me I was wondering if there would be a taxation fee you'd have to pay that is basically you just use for living expenses and the whole tax thing to keep the kingdom/town running. Maybe do it on a bi weekly or monthly type thing have x amount of cash laying around or something or else go into debt labor till you work it off or something... though that might get too into it.
>>
>>29989137
25 Bronze -> 1 Silver, 10 Silver ->1 Gold maybe?

>>29989114
i was going to do a every 2/10 points gives you a +1 to my role, and while i dont think any GM should ignore the stats and i like the way you give them out, i think it could be left to interpretation on how to use them.
>>
>>29989164
actually id prefer 50 Bronze-> 1 Silver, 10 Silver-> 1 Gold.

also still think either way 2 Gold for a dagger is insane, might want to just try and ask people to be reasonable but let them list it?

i haven't looked at DnD in so long im not even sure how it lists equipment though.
>>
>>29989164

>Hasn't been that eventful for Key Tapper the past few days. Wake up, work in the mill, go back home. Some new ponies showed up, but nothing else particularly cool happened.
>Key walks into the embassy to ask if his long awaited typewriter he ordered has arrived. He's been there every day since he ordered it, but so far... nothing.
>He trots up to the counter.
"Hey, Key."
>"Hi! Did it come in today?"
"Yeah, actually."
>"Aw, OK thanks anyw--... wait, huh?"
>The pony behind the desk lifts up a package addressed to Key Tapper.
>Key grins and hops in place with excitement.
"Oh right, there's another one for you."
>The desk pony brings up another smaller package and places it on top of the bigger one.
>"Really? But I didn't order anything else..."
"This is from the same address. Seems like they sent you something extra."
>Key's smile grows wider as he wasn't expecting TWO packages!
>"Thanks so much!" Key tells the pony before lifting the packages with his magic onto his back.
>After a short walk back to his shanty, Key frantically tears away the packaging and opens the bigger box. Inside is Key's long sought typewriter... with two giant keys on it. How in the... what, am I typing in binary? he thinks to himself.
>Key removes the typewriter from the box and places it on his small end table, deciding to try and figure it out later. He glances over at the other package and opens it without the same fervor as before.
>Inside the package is a gray newsie styled hat. And as he inspects it further... he sees it has a small hole in just the right spot for his horn!
>But... why would the typewriter company send him such a thing? Key magics the hat onto his head, being careful to get his horn through the hole. Seeing as there's not a mirror in his shack, he decides to go and see his good buddy Northern Lights and see if he has one to see how his new lid looks.
>>
>>29989202
I could agree to this, so essentially people get paid roughly half a silver to a silver for their work depending on whats needed in our town more or less. The jobs that I figured would be having higher pay would be the ones in high demand so; Farmers, Construction, Resource Gathering, Medical, Guard etc etc

Which also explains why I've been kinda everywhere with the pay rates for the most part.

That being said here is the hodgepodge idea I had in mind for 'Character sheets'

Freeform in that you're able to literally say whatever you want on what you can do, only thing is there are some limits which will be discuessed later.

However in terms of effectiveness the abilities or stats follow a set amount of tiers. Each tier convey's a bonus to your roll up to a Master's level with Tier 5. Each tier costs more than the one before of course to represent the challenge in getting to that tier.

10 points T1, 20 points T2, 40 points T3, 80 points T4, 160 points T5.

Granted those numbers can be moved around a bit, but I felt like those work as a frame of reference. If you spent every waking hour in pursuit of say flying then you'd probably be able to reach that goal in 2 months of real life time, that being said in game time that would be something like a couple to five years since each turn of town building moves the game forward by a month.

As for the limits I just have basic gist of things in minds but they go something like this.
If it's spells; Unicorn only.
If it's cloud stuff; Griffons and pegasi Only
If it's related to mechanical skills or something to do with earth, stone, plant or animal; Earth pony.

The skill has to be within reason when you come up with it, also every Gm has it in their right to reject that skill if they feel like it doesn't fit their adventure. [This one I think needs more review, because I don't want people to get dicked because the Gm didn't check people's sheets]

Thoughts so far?
>>
>>29989278
overall i like it, and i agree and understand the need for progression but at the same time maybe a more softer transition to being better somehow could be found, as in reality(usually) you dont just click and suddenly are better at something, so 10 points then suddenly poof bonus feels alot more clunky then a more gradual progression somehow.

also Griffons arent shown to be able to do cloud stuff, maybe just instead they have slight natural agility or something? only creature naturally built to be a hunter/fighter on the list.
>>
>>29989309
i will mention i thought 10 was a firm limit, hence my 2/10= +1 idea.

As technically an upper limit makes perfect sense, but also shouldn't be insanely over powered in its own(Hence it not being a 1 for 1 ratio.)

maybe a lsightly more grdual growth makes sense?

+1 at 5, +2 at 10-15, +3 at 20-30? etc?

makes more sense too, as getting a small bonus makes sense to get early on, but becoming great and a bigger bonus takes much more work.

Gilda was able to sit on the clouds wasn't she? I remember her being able to do that much at least...

>Clunky Progression
In regards to that what if we had something like a soft scale that works within the tiers, so at 5 points you get that +1, then hitting the T1 at 10 wwas the +2, +3 at 15, +4 at 20 and +5 at 30 and so on?
>>29989326
Ah I see what you're doing here, something along those lines as well. Oh I had a thought what if in cases where you manage to hit a Tier, if it's realted to a stat at least, you manage to get some kind of ability to show case that. So being super tough at T1 in Endurance means you can push on if the dice are bad and let your reroll or something.

Here is the layout on the grid based system. As for the kingmaker it's a system that was found that had alot of good stuff in it for our town building needs at least.

https://mega.nz/#F!s8tzBATQ!xi4ySiPaVLvEp_Xt92RTvQ!N59DQDCA

Spoiler has the link to the Kingmaker, it's in the Rivers Run Red.pdf at pagge 56. It does involve using pathfinder characters for a lot of those bonuses from the leader positions however some feel like they just need to remove all that for some reason.

As for what's being grown it's rather abstracted, but right now one farm is doing food for the town as it grows while the other is producing cash crops to bring in wealth to the town.

Actually once we get to town progression we can expand provided that a hex has already been cleared out of the natives and start to expand from there. Either in a new district of town or having a whole hex made up to bring in the money.

Hint: A hex devoted to farming results in 20 bp returned back. 1 bp is equal to 4k gold in total. Is very good for town yes.
>>
>>29989712
Then we should obviously start accruing farming land, if there's that big a return on them. We could be an agricultural town initially and then progress into a different specialty after we've got some infrastructure in place

Well friendos this is a nation building kingdom building thing I was planning to do, so that means we could make a capital that is seven hexes large just for the town itself with another 4 hexes for farming or the like.

That being said if you wanted to spread our reach and power and break off from Equestria that could be possibly too afterall if we turn into our own nation we'd need a pretty good amount of people after all.

Basically what has happened so far is that when we started we set up what we had to start for our first turn. Then we paused the town building portions for two weeks to allow everyone to have a chance to play their horse and get to know their fellow gravemates while things are being built from Turn 1.

That being said I am torn between doing a update for the town using reduced numbers to showcase the two weeks that have passed or just letting the next turn show the full month. The reason why for a full month is that in the Kingmaker it has each turn for the kingdom be done in monthly turns, so that whole needing to payback the Equestrians thing by the end of the year is saying by turn 12 we need to have some BP set aside to return it back, else we get increases to the debt and get fines for it.

Thats also a wonderful question that I would like to have posed for everyone here; What's better you think?

Tie Real Life time to Ingame Time and progress works like that
OR
2 weeks of Real Life time spent doing horse things while Ingame a month will have passed by the end of the 2 week period.
OR
Do the turns in thread and keep the thread for town managment while Discord things occur in various different sets of time to allow for everyone to do whatever.

Up to you all really, I just want to be able to use the bits of the system for what it's for and not have to tweak numbers all that much.

Alright so Discord is blowing up about this, just to clarify something, the position of Ruler is not literally saying that person is the only one who gets to decide on what gets built or what gets sold or even what the military gets to do. The positions listed here are essentially just the job titles that are used to fill our paperwork in game to get stuff done that the thread as a whole decides to do.

>How much freedom do we have to just write our characters up? Like, can I greentext an entire storyline that winds up with me having some pretty neat loot from it?
You sure can, though be sure to not go too crazy with the ideas there. An extra item or two is fine, having some friends who know a guy is neat too, heck we had one dude who /walked/ from Equestria to here with a bunch of other people!
>Can me own writing substantially change the town via events or something?
Of course! After all events and conflicts cause wonderful story building events for characters and the town itself!
>If I GM a quest (which I might want to do), how much authority will I be given over what types of effects I can have on the world?
Well duh, after all that big ol' map is awfully empty a few good explorations through it would help find some handy resources if not hey at least that area of the map is ripe for colonization now!

>You give a nod, and using your mouth (muzzle?) you fill out the sheet, and sometime during that the mare points out you have a horn.

i dunno, i mean i think having one of those position SHOULD give you minor say in what they do, if nothing else it means if something comes up related to that job you are expected to help with it(IC at least).

nothing like full control but either way thats what term limits and a separation of power via a council and such is for.

for instance, the Treasurer should be able to decide to give out a loan or finance a project or not, but then the council can out vote him perhaps, or simply not collect funds/hand them over to his department in protest.

Government idea I have as of now:

the Council made up of:

-The Councilor ensures that the will of the citizenry is represented via Laws and Edicts.
-The Diplomat oversees international relations with outside forces.
-The Magister guides a kingdom’s higher learning and magic.
-The Marshal helps organize patrols and enforces justice Via the Militia.
-The Treasurer organizes tax collection, and manages the treasury, aswell as loans.
-The Warden leads the Cities defense and city guards, Ensuring its and its properties protection.

Each position has first say over its jurisdiction, however the Council may call to vote on the matter if at least three agree the decision of another needs to be questioned.

Each position is voted in via the vote of the people, up to 3 Terms in a row before they must wait 2 Terms to join the Council again.

A Term is 3 Months.
>>
I'd like to address the way government is going to be handled. Personally I think that it should be a minor consideration for the game, not a focal point of it. Rather than having players populate the main branches of government, I think we should have government be sort of like an NPC that is controlled by the thread. It would be more interesting to have a government that runs automatically, without our intervention, that would be able to be used creatively by GMs and writefags. We'd be able to have more fun with the game, rather than slowly but surely turning this horse roleplay game into a going-to-work simulator with office (ooc) politics and all. Government and governing sounds fun at first in games, but it gets tiring really quickly.

The government should be able to be used by GMs and writefags for cool content. For instance, if a GM wanted to run a quest where the king gets assassinated, he could if he went to the thread and started up a strawpoll. If enough people thought it would be alright then the GM would be able to control the government characters and play out the scene in a quest. This way there's more creative freedom for GMs and writefags, and it doesn't require powergaming other's characters in order to do interesting things.

cont..
>>
>>29992549

Another consideration is the amount of stress that playing government has OOC. You introduce political factions into the playerbase OOC that drive schisms and form sub-communities when you start having players that are substantially more important than others. If one player got to be king then that one player would be way more important OOC than another player. That isn't to say we all need to be equal or anything, far from it. I'm just saying that we shouldn't decide who gets to be important IC from an OOC standpoint. If someone is going to be an important character then it should be through their own contributions via writefagging or GMing or something, rather than whoever has the most friends OOC.

Also, since this is a game meant to be played for fun, we can have unrealistic leadership. We can actually have a benevolent dictator, or >working socialism/communism, or a god emperor. We aren't restrained to what is literally possible in terms of government, because this is a townbuilder -> quest based game. If we can write it well enough and it's interesting, then it flies! I think we could have much more fun playing a game like this rather than going fully autistic with spreadsheets and thrown together government systems to try and lead a group of people when we have next to no leadership experience at all

All in all, I just want to be able to do cool things with this game. I don't want to be stuck having to wait on people getting online in order to do government shit in order to get all the necessary IC paperwork done in order to run a quest to go find a few council agreed upon berries that aren't too overly powered to be allowed into our neutered excuse of a fantasy game. I want this game to be able to not get bogged down in messy details that aren't any fun at all. Otherwise, what's the difference between this game and Second Life?
>>
>>29992549
>>29992555
>>29992587
I disagree. some of the most fun ive ever had playing games were almost entirely government focused. it is all about how you implement players being in/part of the government.

furthermore me and others did not join solely for the RP elements, having been interested in the Town building and related elements such as running it.

Government and government roles do not have to be insanely in depth nor over encompassing but ignoring them or pushing them off onto NPC roles i dont want.

what you think and find fun is not the only thing people find fun. we already often have to wait on people for purely anyways, its almost inevitable thats its going to happen at times.

If you want to focus more on the Roleplay side then fine, but that shouldn't mean you get to crush and ignore or stop others from enjoying the town-building and Governmental side of things.
>>
>>29992647
Players actually governing leads to OOC conflict which is never fun. You create imbalances in the playerbase that generate contempt, because not everyone can be the leaders of the town.

The townbuilding aspect of the game is an important one, however I think there's a disconnect with what I believe the townbuilding is and what you believe the townbuilding is. I was pretty sure the townbuilding aspect was going to be how we used the kingmaker system to design a town, and used quests and such to explore or develop the tiles around the town and fine tune what the town actually has going for it. That's, in my opinion, actually a game. However, and please correct me if I'm wrong, it seems like you want to include a much more involved political aspect to the game that determines how the town gets developed, rather than through questing and storytelling it comes from certain players getting to decide how things will run. Then you'll have OOC political factions and resentment developing.

I understand that you and some others joined for those particular aspects, but like you said, you aren't the only ones playing the game and need to take others into consideration. Have you considered how many others wouldn't find it fun to be ruled by other players in a direct sense?
>>
>>29992690
never said direct ruling. also the town building has specific elements such as BP and the like the Players as a whole already decide how to spend, aswell as letting games shape what is around and part of the town.

and guess what? theres already going to be imbalances, and letting those that want to do govern isnt going to make a fuss OOC if everyone actually tries to act IC and we make sure Governing roles are not a nonnegotiable dictatorship with only minor game effects, allowing most of it to be a way for characters to interact with the world in a more over scoping way.

i guess we both have a different amount of trust and respect for people at least attempting to understand the difference between IC and OOC interactions. Curiosity and Compund are fucking bitches IC but OOC i think the people who play them are pretty cool, for instance. i dont let either thought influence the other. its really not that hard.

and ya know what? yes, i do want the Politics to matter, to effect things. not as an iron fist of un clenching non negotiable power or streamlining, but if my character is in charge of the treasury yeah, he should get a say in if one single other character wants to take out a 1,000 gb loan to build himself a new house on top of the deathworm pit. thats the towns resources being handed out and a believable, interactive world has both boundaries and believable, understandable reactions and interactions.

that doesnt mean everyone cant just say "Nah man let him get ate by deathworms." but it doesn't mean the position is worthless or has no merit, nor that it does not give the player in the position interesting options for interacting with the world IC.

No ones forcing anyone into a position if they dont want to take part in the politics more directly, furthermore most people seem to want a system of checks and balances where the leaders have limited terms and cant get in if other players dont want them in.
>>
>>29992647
I'm just going to say that if this game is going to run longer than a month, if you make all the players who joined in the last week into political figures it's going to be a problem. Anyone new who joins won't be able to participate in the government and political elements by sheer virtue of not being around when the first votes went out.
You could have had good games before with the same premise, but I'm assuming your games weren't with complete strangers that's open to everyone to join even after the campaign starts. That's a big deal.
>>
>>29992810
with people a knew? some yes, but all were open to strangers.

admittedly most weren't open to new people once started but a few we were able to find spots for later arrivals.

term limits and the like would help solve that and appears to be what people want anyways. you're NEVER going to not have some barriers to new people joining once a game gets past a certain point, its inevitable. yes you can lessen those barriers but cutting the fun down for those already a part hardly seems like the best way to do it either.
>>
>>29992859
This general has been around a week and already there's incumbents for positions. A first come first serve game is fine, but there's no point in having a general if that will be the case.
There's still not an official system, the organization is all over the place, and there's an identity problem of what this general is supposed to be. A kingdom building game? A political sim? A freeform rp? A hexcrawl pnp? It's more pressing to answer these basic questions first instead of deciding a player is going to be God King.

You've already said your preference that you want your character to have one of the leadership roles. I have to suspect you're biased. While it may be fun for you, you might be better off playing a game intended from the beginning to have political elements included, rather than whatever this undecided mess is.
>>
>>29992941
you're right, i cant say im unbiased, however im having fun without such a role and if i dont get one ahwell.

however I was lead to believe this was going to be a game with kingdom builder and political element, even if those were not the focus.

while i enjoy the story telling elements i wouldn't be here if those other elements were not put forth as part of the game. Biased yes, but no one ever isnt and i never tried to hide what i wanted nor what drew me into joining.

you're right we need to hammer out alot of important questions but those in charge seem to be trying but have not even agreed among themselves from the start what this was or to what degree to implement elements or how.

Im merely giving my opinion based off both what i want, what was advertised, what has been used so far, and what it appears others have suggested(though mostly on the discord).

also i see nothing wrong with it being around a week and people wanting to move forward with other elements of the game, be it positions or otherwise.

Instead the games somewhat unfolded into us trying to figure out what the game even actually is.

Honestly, I think you guys should get the basics of the game down first before going into political shenanigans. I like the idea of having NPCs taking care of most things at first, and if someone wants to take up that role IC, then they are free to rally and do so. Or assassination. Whichever.

But do be aware that if players DO take up important roles IC, they will mostly likely need to be NEETs irl or have a lot of free time. One of the things that was an issue previous game, was important players IC not around for others players to interact with so that they can get things done.

For example, let's say a player wants to be the banker. They have control over the bank ic and issue out loans and such. Let's say that player goes on vacation for a week, gets caught up with school, or gets sick. Other players who want to take out loans, will have to wait until that person gets back, halting a lot of things for them.

Another example that actually happened, is court trials. All the council members had to be present for a trial, but due to time zones, life, and other irl issues, it was hell to get everyone together at the same time, thus making what SHPULD have been a fun courtroom event, into months long pain in the ass that nobody wanted to do anymore.

NPCs could at least prevent these issues, and if you insist on having real players take up these roles, AT LEAST have an NPC back up of some kind when they are not around.

From what I've seen in the Discord, Griff is trying to get power because it's what his character does naturally. That's a good point. I would propose that we simply have characters that want to be the leadership roles be used only for the benefits they give the towns state sheet. Also thanks to whoever compiled those links for the game.

I personally would like to see town building mixed with quests on a hex crawl of the map in the op.

Anyway of a pic becomes a leader good for them but they should have a npc understudy that is accessible and a viable for others to use to pass things on and move things along of they need it
>>

No, it doesn't. The line is eight tenths of an inch, the length of 2r (r= radius measured from the apothem of). Because of this, each SIDE of the hex is ~6.93 miles (or 36590.4 feet), meaning each hex has an area of ~3478450000 feet (or 658797.34848485 miles) squared.

i actually don't mind the game the way it is. just need to set a few more things in stone, like currency and the likes
But the whole council vs monarchy thing is something else...I do think that we need people who can make decision on what happens, but it should be looser then before. kind of like a jury when things get out of hands
I would like to believe we should be able to settle things amongs ourselves, but it might not be that simple

alright, fully fucking serious here.

in DETAIL, not just fucking 5 words, actually explain what happened the last game(s), how they started going downhill, why people let it happen etc.

because no ones actually REALLY explained SHIT but then expects us to just understand why this might not be a good idea.

yes, i will fully admit ive never dont an anonymous forum but mostly on discord RP game involving Town builder/Politics elements, but i honest to god have had similar games full of strangers still work and be fucking successful as hell, so ill fully admit i might have some biases to not being able to see how it cant work out.

more importantly, people like me who have no idea what you're talking about who want this to work cant try and help make it work if we dont know why everyone flips their lids over certain ideas or details or have the knowledge of what needs to be prevented.
>>
>>29996830
to be honest, theres a lot of reasons why the game ended at that point
>game reached an end game point where the survival aspect of it was basically gone, so no point in trying to play with that when all of the buildings were pretty much done
>The council did also prevent a good amount of content from being created, which then scared future content creators from trying anything
>At that point, most people just stayed in OOC chat or the inn and just talked all day long rather then try to do anything productive
Basically its a long chain reaction that ended up causing the lack of content
>Oh and also, most people were heavily against trying to change what was broken, because it was 'their system'. I clearly remember someone coming in towards the end who wanted to change things for the best, but got completly shit on by older players for trying to change things
>>
>>29996830
>in detail
There is way too much dude but here are some things I remember

1. Some players liked to bring in powerful objects into the game and basically try to be OP. Overly powerful spells, weapons, Silver tried to bring in a dragon egg but it was rightfully smashed. This was at the very start of the the IRC portion of the game. There was also poison involved too and people trying to use OOC information to avoid things IC.

So rules started being made.

2. Heat. People thought it would be fun if mares went into heat because it was realistic and people are horny. Several mares became pregnant IC and tried to still go on quests while being pregnant. When they realized how stupid this was, half the players were town-bound and couldn't do anything until they had given birth, and even after given birth they stayed home to take care of foals.

3. Did I mention all the fucking? Not just occasionally fucking but some characters would ONLY fuck and nothing else. There were underage players that got involved with adult players. There was a certain player that got really creepy with another player to the point they had to quit. There were players that would lure in new comers from the inn to fucking them at their house, and so the new players thought this was just an ERP game.

CONT.
>>
>>29996995
4. There were two councils. The IC council, and the meta council.

>IC Council
See last paragraph here >>29993062

>Meta Council
To keep track with all the quests that were happening, and with people being upset with what was "canon" and what wasnt, and some people retconning events because things didn't go their way, a meta council was formed. A group of people would be voted in every 3(?) months to dictate what quest ideas would be allowed to be ran and critiqued. There was a spreadsheet where GMs or players would submit ideas and wait for an answer. Sometimes this took for fucking ever because again, timezones and irl getting in the way. Also arguments between the council and and non council members for being upset over what could and could not go. There started to be a divide between them.

5. Leadership and mods
To be honest I barely remember this mess itself but I remember the arguments between them. One of them was power hungry, another got pissed over every little thing.

6. SYSTEMS.
There was a need of a system to jeep track of players powers and progress to prevent players from being retardedly OP. A system was made. Players argued about it. Another system was made. Players argued about it. Another player made a system and there was argument about that and the group became split up over the systems.

7. THE THREAD
The thread turned into just shitpostings, blamimg, name calling, and no one wanted to green text anymore. It was "lol too much reading" and they rather get drunk and fuck at the inn. The only way the thread was bumped is when there was a fight going on.

CONT.
>>

Thanks for getting all these links lined up for us to go over.

Although I do suggest we try to use the 2nd kingmaker data as it's more put together in a better format I feel.

On another note I feel like putting the Daily Calender and the Character Stat sheets together would work better for keeping stuff together in one package yanno?

1492899665704.jpg
177KB, 1280x720px
>>29997079
8. Skype
A Skype channel was made which created yet another group separate from the thread and irc. I admit I don't know what went on in that Skype group, but there was drama from it that leaked into the game and vice versa.

9. Creators and GMs.
Those that would create and GM would be bullied into doing ONLY that. When they made something or GM'd, people would bitch at them. When they would play IC, people would ask "Why aren't they GMing?" and so a grudge was held between them. This prompt less and less people to actually be motivated to GM and create content and thus, killing more of the game.

10. Too many channels.
There were WAY too many channels spread thin. It worked when we had 50 active players, but then people started making their own private channels and wouldn't RP in public ones due to either being too busy fucking each other, or too self concious about being around others. The main rp channels became empty with only the "main" or "autism central" channel being the most active with people just talking about how they want to RP but never do, and just talk about nothing all day while someone would complain about "hello! We should fix this game!" And people would ignore it.

11. The End
I wasn't there till the very end, but by the time I left, there was hardly any RPing, channels were silent, and only the main one was active. The thread was a burning mess of people blaming others or people announcing they were leaving.

I seriously cannot go into more detail because this game lasted over the span of about 3 years and that was too long ago. Alot of us still had fun despite all this, and some people only had this and didn't know how to move on from it. So new games were created over and over only to fail over and over. Old people who have been here continue to advise against past mistakes or re-create them. I'm here to just have fun while it lasts then move on again to something else. Hope this helps?
>>
>>29996995
>>29997079

thanks.

while this wouldn't solve all the issues, i did notice this part standing out:

in all the games ive played, having solid, concrete rules and limits beforehand kept the game alive. trying to figure things out or change them because someone got angry, even if they have a point, kills the game faster then almost anything else.

You need to know what elements you want, how you want them, and how far they are allowed to go, tell players what those are, and if they dont like it they dont play.

otherwise all i can say is limit the number of channels, dont be a ban happy bastard but also dont give in or tolerate massive bullshit, and dont put up with bitching at GMs and content creators for wanting a break, especially if said people dont do those things themselves.

townbuilding, RP, politics? all those things can be included and fun, but only if they know what they are and cant be influenced by people to BECOME a problem.

also as for fucking, lewd should be done off screen IMO and nothing should be forced, nor should it be the focus. im not into that though so just dont try and force it on me really is all i care about.
>>
>>29997303
See, I agree to a point with you, but the problem with a lot of that is enforcing it. Even now in the chat as I type this, someone is trying to work on getting things together but people rather not worry about it and talking about nothing. It's the same voice I used to see in the old game that would their best to get things going or keep it on track but not many listened or cared for very long.

But it's fine, turns out fish gets a wonderfully petrolly taste when roasted over an open diesel flame, who'd have bloody thunk, eh? >Wait, correct that. FLIES overboard, what in the world is- that's a pegasus...
>THAT'S A FUCKING PEGASUS!

>One hour and a vigorous rubdown later you've discovered that you, too, are in fact a pegasus now. For some reason.
>You're also on an Equestrian ship bound for a frontier colony that's being formed by other humans-turned-pony. For some reason.
>Your fellow transformees were apparently found all over Equestria, so the princesses decided in their everlasting wisdom to send a bunch of unskilled yobs into untamed frontier lands to form a colony. FOR SOME REASON.
>So the captain of this good ship decided to just dump you with the rest of them to avoid having to sail you back to be processed properly.
>So, in essence, you actually made it to Equestria - the pony Equestria, that is, you got enough of South Africa for a lifetime when you resupplied from Cape Town - and not only do you not get to live in Equestria, you missed your chance to even SEE Equestria.

>Fuck you, Tyche, you capricious bitch.

Not a very creative person, I'm afraid, so don't expect any great works from me.

Gannet herself will focus on the marine, was struck by the idea of a diving pegasus and sort of fell in love with the idea as it took form. But I understand most people probably won't share that interest/focus. I won't min/max her to uselessness in landlocked acivities so I can still be able to join in and be (somewhat) useful with everyone.

Aside from that, I doubt I'll have any ideas that aren't already being planned... adventures, townbuilding, social drama (most of which is hopefully not OOC), etc...
I'll make sure to pitch in whereever I can OOC, though, since Gannet will probably not be all that useful to the greater goals of town...

id say yes so long as a GM/person in charge is let in on it, and then only the stuff that is thus used by the GM for game purposes.

Hey guys I'm not gay, I'm a defense attorney. I accidentally joined this town because I thought my boat was headed for the hot girls island. Well, since I'm here I had a question let's say hypothetically I had gay thoughts (lol yea right) and I found my trappy best friend attractive (ew gross) and one day we had sex in my house when I was feeling really sorry for him (I would puke...the only thing I bang is chicks with big tits you know what I'm saying lol) but we didn't kiss on the lips. Would that be gay? We were wasted (no evidence to the contrary) and while we were banging we weren't being cuddly and we didn't cuddle after (again there is no evidence against me). It's almost like a parody of when we bang mare (remember this didn't happen(the banging him part not the banging mares part that happens all the time)). So that wouldn't make me gay right? Just a bro?

One of the good things though is that the game world has so much fucking room that there should be endless possibilities for questing and such.

>>

See that's why it's easy. Each hex tile is 20 miles of free land to do whatever you want with

Because there's so much land to play around with, you don't really need to worry too much about mucking up other people's stories.

Also there really isn't much in the way of stories yet, so you picked a good time to get involved
>>
>>30000737
see Homily, only a priest can help you now.
>>
>>30000856
wha?

according to one of the head honchos, and the current map, each hex is 6 miles. though the map in the OP shows closer to 12 i think.

either ways no where near 20.
>>
>>30000866
Oh, whoops. Misinfo on my part. Either way, each tile is fucking huge so we have lots of room to play around
>>

I see, well one more question, is it bad if i make my quests FULLY luck based? Like the outcome, loot, enemies, development can go from awesome to crap in 1 roll.

Also talking about enemies, sticking to the foes seen in the show or can create my own enemies.
>>
>>30001021
you can create your own enemies. We've already got a super dangerous tentacle demon that makes ponies explode so your good...just don't go TOO overboard
>>
>>30001021
Hey, do whatever you want. Just do us all a favor and warn us of any extra dangerous quests. We should be able to at least pick the difficulty we run with lmao
>>
>>30001021
I do not mind that, but just don't make an instant death roll without one other roll that could have prevented it. Like, I could see two crit fails killing someone, but just one crit fail would kind of suck
>>
>>30001049
>>30001035
Well, my raw idea is this, gonna post it so you teel me if its good bad, too close or too far from possible/fun/interesting.

Basically a long dungeon that scalates difficulty each floor you go down, it changes theme each 3 floors, and each time you reach the theme changing spot you open a shortcut to the surface so you dont have to run all the dungeon again each time, and it changes after a certain number of days because the dungeon itself is alive, see it as a PnP verson of a roguelike dungeon crawler.

Luck is heavily influenced as it can open/close paths, etc.
>>
>>30001084
That'd be pretty cool, I'd be up for it.
>>
>>30001084
Sounds like Heaven's Tower
>>
>>30001084
That sounds pretty fun actually. I was planning on doing some stuff with changing levels and all too, though nothing thematic or tower based lol
>>
>>30001169
Actually that concept is much older, similar to "azure dreams" which is also a tower and probably based on, which i emntioned long time ago in 4c.

But i was going more for "chocobo's dungeon" kind of dungeon, with shortcut reward on certain number of floors reached.

Interesting thing, the main reason why one has different stats from the other is because those roles have penalties if they aren't filled with warm bodies.

The first one I made I didn't do the role vacancy as I predicted people would fill in for that, the 2nd has the roles vacant causing the issue we have now with differeing values while the last has not yet applied those penalites either.

So my question I have for everyone here is which would you prefer.

Players struggling to manage these roles as they try to lead the kingdom

OR

Friendly Equestrians helping out and who were assigned to assist the new kingdom until they get off their hooves so to speak [NPC until Players feel comfortable to handle stuff]

OR

Simply have NPCs just in control but they are of Human descent instead of Equestrians but they are used as a plot element and for the purpose of the town stats.
>>
>>30000445
it's clear now, that outer hayven faces an existential threat and requires ... metal gear.
>>
>>30002927
I think we're forgetting that we aren't our own kingdom. Equestria shipped us out here to make a settlement for themselves, not start up some other kingdom. As of now, Equestria controls us. Equestria is calling all the shots. That might change eventually, if we revolt or I'm just autistic and read the thing wrong and we're not here for Equestria's good, but right now we don't get to have our own government.
>>
>>30003185
Ah I was thinking that people would eventually want to make their own kingdom with black jack and hookers after a while. However if we continue to have more people show up and decide to settle in their own settlements that would be fine by me.
>>
>>30003263
I'm not against making our own kingdom eventually, but when it gets discussed it's been turning into autistic screeching and shitposting, so I'd rather we just not worry about it too much for now

T'was the early morning hours, before Celestia graced us with the rays of the morning sun when a startling light appeared in the skies. A beam of glorious blue light rose out from a location West of the town, but before many could see it, the light vanished, not a trace left in the skies of the star-filled night. Throughout the day, rumors of the bright apparition have spread throughout the town, told by both the citizens and the Equestrians sent and stationed here. Though the natives aren't too keen to investigate, but it's not surprise that several townsfolk are interested in what could have caused such a spectacular show. Looking at the map of the area, it's not hard to pinpoint just where the light originated from; the Shrine located up the river. Though the skies have been quiet, many are still curious as to the appearance of such an event. Will you be brave enough to venture out into the wilderness and see if what was seen is friend or foe? Ill omen and blessing for the future? What kind of horrors, treasures, and discoveries await? Only YOU can find out!

Question, how much magic control do we have?
>>
Well, the quest to the light-baring shrine is off to a rocky start, the party getting only to the first fork in the rover before everything went to hell. The good news is nothing bad happened prior to that point. The bad news is that once they got to the bridge and started to cross, they were ambushed by a pair of mangy, malnourished wolves! The good news is that they managed to avoid being bitten or clawed by the duo, the bad news is that they wound up hurting themselves a fair number. However, when it came down to it they pulled together and the beasts retreated, the only major injuries sustained were lost weapons and hurt pride. Due to the poor timing of bad rolls, we had to put a pause on it, and the party will be here when we begin next. Due to my personal schedule issues, the actual in-game date of this expedition will have to be adjusted to when I can actually get to GMing next, as not to keep the five of them in suspended animation. I hope you had fun, and pray that when we start next we can actually get to the meat of this quest!

>Upon Entry to the Outpost, you receive a pair of saddlebags, courtesy of the Equestrian Embassy. This pack contains;

->A average-sized, surprisingly sturdy canteen.
->A small journal, completely blank.
->writing implements
->A small survival knife, for utility.
->Some bandages
->A flint and steel
->A decent length (20 ft?) of rope
->50 Bronze Bits (5 Silver)
>For now, there are no banks. This could change, should the town decide on it
>Jobs: Currently, up to the players. Try to think of a useful profession, however. Some examples;
->Lumberjack
->Construction Worker
->Farmer
->Craftsman
->Fisherman
->Town Guard
->Town Crier
->Scout (Possibly a part of Guard duties)
->Houses: Somewhat. More being built to acomadate influx.

Cotton will only be profitable (and massively so) if we have a cotton gin to get the seeds out. Cotton production is otherwise limited to a trickle and wouldn't even be worth it.

>The forest was cool and calm
>Some woodland creatures, like squirrels and raccoons scurried about
>Two squirrels were busy having raucous sex on a tree branch, high above the forest floor
>Nature is fascinating
>In that very forest, a pegasus mare was busy cutting back the brush
>She’d arrived some time ago, but, rather than settling living arrangements, like a responsible pony, she’d decided to run off into the forest and play explorer
>Her coat was a faded tan color, while her mane and tail were a darker brown
>Desafiante honestly thought she looked just a few shades off from a Daring Do ripoff
>Using a sword she may or may not have stolen she hacked and slashed her way through a bush
>Was it necessary to cut it down so she could get through?
>No
>Was it fun?
>Yes
>And that was all the reason she needed
>She even mumbled to herself to make the experience a bit more satisfying
>”Hello,” she said in a thick, spanish accent
>”I am Desafiante. You killed my father; prepare to die.”
>Sure, the sword she was using was not, in fact, a rapier, but that didn’t matter much
>She was actually pretty sure a rapier wouldn’t even work, now that she didn’t have hands
>This led to a new train of thought: She was absolutely pissed that she hadn’t come out a unicorn
>Desafiante would have loved nothing more than to sling spells and become a powerful wizard, but no, she got stuck with fluffy wings and an odd urge to sleep a lot
>Pegasus biology was weird
>Or maybe it was because she was into the cat/pegasus headcanon on /mlp/ before this went down
>Probably that
>It was about this time the mare noticed it was getting dark
>Probably a good time to head back to town
>Her golden eyes scanned the land before her to look for any landmarks
>After seeing nothing of use to her, she promptly gave up and cheated
>Her wings flapped and fluttered and she slowly lifted off of the ground
>A grin spread across her face as she rose above the treeline
>>
>>30008744
>She was finally getting a hang of this flying thing
>From her new vantage point she could easily see the small village in which everyone had gathered
>Er…
>Every /pony/
>Yeah, she was just going to stick with human terms unless she met an actual pony
>She made her way back toward the village and spared a moment to actually put her sword away
>Then, as if to remind her that she hasn’t worked hard enough to fly properly yet, a gust of wind caught her at just the wrong angle
>She didn’t know how to recover
>With a panicked, autistic screech, she ended up plummeting a good fifty feet or so, but barely managed to flap her little wings enough to avoid serious injury upon hitting the ground
>Didn’t stop her head from reeling, though
>She swore in taco and decided that she would just lay there in shame and hope no one had seen her
>They probably did

And thus concludes Conquistahors' shitty intro green

>"Gannet" still wasn't wholly comfortable in her new body, but feeling the late morning breeze and salty sea spray in her wings and mane made it fairly hard to complain. She was out on the focsle, enjoying the wind and watching a pod of dolphins play in the bow waves. She'd spent the morning trying to find someon-somepony that could tell her more about this 'Outer Hayven' but everyon- everyPony seemed to be busy or at least pretended to be busy. All she'd gotten out of them was its name and that it was built in the jungle. Which sounded like it could be nice, maybe like Burma, or even Belize. Maybe things were going to be pretty good here. She lifted her eyes and looked put at the oncoming shoreline, and it was certainly verdant. No buildings in sight, but the place was pretty new, the buildings that were in place might not be visible from this far away.
>>
>>30011336
>So, apparently, when the sailors said 'surrounded by jungle' what they actually meant was 'in a fucking swamp, surrounded by jungle'. There were sand beaches stretching out as fas as the eye could se on either side of the swampy river delta, and the river delta islands themselves would probably have been perfectly adequate to build on. Yet for some reason, these peop- ponies had decided that their town should be a few hours trek into the damn swamp.
>Her party rounded a bend in the trees and she came face to face with one of the most underwhelming sights of her life. She supposed she should be grateful they at least built proper buildings, she'd half expected swamp peo- pon- PEOPLE to use ferns as a primary building material. So this was to be her life from now on... She'd never actually been to Belize, but she was fairly certain it wasn't like this. Her party was herded off to a building in the middle of town which seemed to act as a governor's """mansion""" where a very bored and very slow and very dead inside pony handed out bags with gear. Nothing too great of a kit, but some basic useful stuff.
>Slinging her new bags across her flanks, she set off to explore her new home. She'd been given a tent but would probably need to talk to someone in charge to get assigned one of the houses. One look back at the Department of Suicidal Tendencies was enough to convince her that one night in a tent couldn't be that bad. There was very little places of work to be found, a couple of farms, a smithy a mill and a logging site on the outskirts of town. Having no experience farming, milling, or smithing, she figured she could try out logging. How hard could it really be swinging an axe at a tree?
>>
>>30011340
>1 hour of swinging axes, dodging timber and hauling logs later and she was utterly convinced that she had been very, very wrong. Everything hurt as she laid down at the river bank, gazing down into the murky waters. What was she supposed to do, here? Nothing had been able to captivate her interests and she had always found it absolutely exhausting doing things that didn't interest her. There was a ripple in the water as a fish came up and caught a water strider. She almost felt tempted to sneak back and stowaway at the Equestrian ship but remembering the, to say the least, cold demeanour she and her fellows had been given by the crew made her shudder at what they'd do when they found her. Another ripple as another fish caught an insect and more fish could be seen even through the murky water. Made her wish she still had her speargun, but where the hell would she find one of those around here? With a great sigh and groan she lifted her aching body from the ground and walked back to the logging site. It certainly wouldn't be as good as she was used to, or even a Mares (heh), but she should be able to make a rudimentary fishing spear with some discarded branch and the utility knife from her bag. Should at least get her mind off of the whole 'work for a living' thing.

>As the sun started setting she'd gotten a fair bit of fish. More than she thought she would have, which was admittedly barely any given the shitty spear and the fact that she had hooves now. She gathered her haul and started off back towards town in a good mood for once when she was hit by a realisation...
>Did ponies even eat meat? What was she supposed to do with all these fish?!
>>
>>30011350
Posted a day late because of writer's block.
Now for today's (shorter) portion

>Gannet woke up still sore from yesterday's logging attempt and even more sore from sleeping in a fucking tent.
>Fuck tents.
>At least lying awake being annoyed at the uncomfortable ground had given an idea about her work situation. She had been handed some coins when she handed the fish off to some mess hall worker at dinner but that wasn't lucrative enough to justify standing at the riverbank poking fish all day.
>At least, she assumed it wasn't lucrative enough since she didn't really know how much the local currency was actually worth.
>In any case, she'd seen flotsam washed up on the beaches when coming in to land yesterday. Prompting her to assume that there had probably been a shipwreck nearby. While the flotsam was probably just waterlogged lumber, if she could find the site of the wreck, there might be some salvage to be had!
>And even if not, there might be something to be foraged on the ocean floor. Free diving used to be commercial, after all, with pearl- and spongediving driving the economy of some places if the museum she was dragged through on Kalymnos was to be believed.
>>
>>30011397
>She needed a boat, though, cause she was NOT trekking for hours back and forth through the swamp every day. Jungle people used canoes, right? How do you make a canoe? Do you just hollow out a tree?
>That sounded like far too much work, if so, but she should be able to build a raft. Probably not good enough for ocean travel, she was no Thor Heyerdahl, but should be enough for coast-hopping.
>She had some rope in her bag, but that wasn't going to make much of a raft... Jungles had vines, right? Movies set in jungles usually had vines in them.
>Satisfied with that, she head out to forage the area around town.

>Trekking through the swamp on the way in from the coast was not pleasant, but at least that path had been cleared. Foraging through the wild swamp and jungle around town had been down right miserable.
>Not to mention that a small semi-sharp utility knife was not an apt tool for cutting through vines, but after several hours she had enough. Or rather, she'd had enough and what she'd managed to gather would have to do.
>Now to get the wood. Getting the refuse from the logging site would probably not be enough, and she wouldn't really trust a raft made of twigs and branches. She probably couldn't just take ready-cut lumber from the logging site and cutting down the trees herself was just out...
>Maybe there was enough flotsam on the beaches to build a raft with? At any rate, it was far too late in the day to start the trek out to the sea, so it would have to wait.

>>
>>30013542
What happened to the foals, Anon?

Did the REAL FBI come?
>>
>>30014139
Characters who got pregnant had to stay pregnant IRL time for about 3 months or so.
>but anon, that's stupid, why not time skip?
Because it would not make sense for characters to time skip into the future and other characters interact from the past that didn't time skip. Moving on...

Said pregnant players would still want to go on quests. Some got upset ooc when they had miscarriages or others IC would scold them for being irresponsible. They were pretty much forced to stay within town and do nothing which lead to boredom, which lead to a lot more ERP, infidelity, and melodrama relating to it.

When the foals were actually born, they still had to stay home to care for them which lead again, more erp, drama, and less adventuring/town building.
>>
>>30014139
They should have. The amount of ERP among adults and minors was staggering, and we had one guy basically stalk a girl OOC.

There was also the problem that some writers hated non-combat characters having any sort of involvement in their quests, leading to instances where players got ambushed in the middle of town so somebody could say the world was super dangerous and shit.
>>
>>30015863
>players got ambushed in the middle of town
Not gonna lie, town itself being attacked or in danger was fun. We should do things like this again, and those that don't want to join in meerly need to stay indoors.
>>
>>30015863
Town attacks/sieges sound pretty nito, actually

So from what I see there's only one person in charge of the spreadsheets? So we have to appease the almighty Rain if you want to be good at anything? What a load of pony shit

>>30016621
We can talk about it nicely in the game discussion channel instead of mud slinging can't we? Rain explained how she was giving stats to me and it made sense.
If you write more in your day or if you go on adventures you'll have more progression than ponies who don't. But you can message either of us if you think there's an issue of someone not being given their fair share?

Message either of us or write in the channel and we will try to take care of specific concerns. Thank you.
>>
>>30016650
>day tracker is there so people who only have so much time dont fall insanely behind.
>"Write more and you get better stats!"
>defeat the purpose instantaneously.

also

>everyone talking about people playing favoritism and past players powergaming.
>only 1 person in control of stats.
>giving your're name to said person via complaining directly.

ever wonder why how you vote IRL does not have to be public? because issues can arise when you dont have anonymity.
>>
>>30016669
I just said I was authorized to help with stats. I don't even know anyone here so if you don't feel comfortable talking to Rain you can talk to me.
If there's really an issue I'm sure it would be easier to try fixing the stats to be more equal than just causing drama.

And again Rain asked for help, so if no one wants to re do the entire thing you can just volunteer yourself to help distribute the stats like I did?
>>
>>30015951
>>30016048

It /sounds/ fun but in practice, it disrupts casual RP in ways that greatly annoys those that don't adventure. And leads to the ever dreaded conversation "Did my character just get killed?"
>>
>>30015863
I always found that incredibly stupid because they were extremely inconsistent, one day you can get attacked/attack in town without any warning and the nxt day you cant say "fight" without 20+ town guards pulled out of someone's butt to instantly swarm you and interrogate you, then the next day someone tries to public murder you without consequences.
>>
>>30016048
i did that once...people didn't seem to like it and complained it didn't make sense
>>
>>30017586
context is key.

i can see it making perfect sense depending on how it was done and happened.
>>
>>30017336
>"Did my character just get killed?"
They wouldn't because if they didn't want to join in, they would stay indoors, in a shelter, or away from the area. OOC the player would just say "I don't want to be involved" and the GM will adhere and focus on those that do.
>>
>>30017666
Well, i'd have to give you the whole thing to really explain it, but to keep it short, had a long term quest thing where a hive of ice spiders settled down about a day and a half walk away
>One of the players responsible for the scouts/NPCs sent some to see if anything was off at that place (it was an abandoned town from a previous quest of mine so it was already explored)
>Told him of the spiders, didn't do anything saying they were too far away
>That was early winter
>Between then and 5 or so months pass, letting me make some appearances of said spiders, starting off small but slowly growing in activity overtime. I had everything already planned ahead of time with progress every month
>At the 5th month or so, the spider hive grows enough in numbers to send larger numbers. So i plan an attack on the town to attempt to capture some of the NPC ponies (cause that'd suck if i captured players)
>On a note, their queen is a monstrous pony/drider ice spider with powerful magic
>People complain that it doesn't make sense to have the spiders attack, even though they had PLENTY OF INFO AND TIME TO DEAL WITH THEM BEFORE IT HAPPENED
to be honest, i could of handled the whole thing better, but overall it was fun for me
>>
Ah this reminds me.

If you start something as a GM, make sure to end it. Don't pass it on to someone else and then act surprised when it goes a different direction than you want, write your story, don't start a premise and then throw it out.

Too many Writers ruin the story.

>>30017749
well, that how people were back then. As soon as something happened in their precious little town, they complained. I think it almost got removed too because of that. I even had to push the initial player with the info to do something, else he would of pretty much done absolutely nothing
>Oh and on another note, they did eventually go and assault the hive. Honestly i could of made the monsters strong for what i wanted them to do, but even so i could of potentially wiped the whole group
>Its never a good idea to split your party in half to take care of the wounded ones (though i get the idea, but they were attacking a hive with at least 50 spiderlings, 10 spider warriors and the queen at the same time)
>But i'm somethings too soft when i GM. Need to work on that

Finally decided to bite the bullet and develop an introduction. Too lazy and tipsy to get too detailed or type out an actual greenext, but everything's been copy-pasted into the journal document.

>Finally arrived to the town after nearly two weeks from initial arrival. Being a pegasus is pretty great, but having the misfortune of "spawning" in Cloudsdale created some delay in getting me in the right place. After a few days of detainment by the Cloudsdale reserve of the Royal Guard, my carriage finally arrived, and now I could arrive to down in style! Can't expect me to just fly where I need to go yet, after all. Now that they've finally found a way to cart me out to the town they have established for all the other fresh arrivals, however, I've determined to just keep a low profile until I get more settled and figure out how to proceed from here and where I need to go next.

Hope that handwaves a lot of the delay caused by my blasted work schedule.

>I'm surprised at the resilience of some folk here. Given the whispers and gossip I hear, I was expecting to be at full capacity in no time. Perhaps they're simply not retrieving the bodies?
>Seriously, it's shockingly easier digging up soil and growing flora in this form than it was back then. Must be that pony magic working in its own way. I do need to see about getting my han-...hooves, on more seeds. What cemetary is complete without an array of Chrysanthemums and Statices? With that said, there are worse problems than Mariel going on. Some are actively trying to destroy the game. This includes trying to use their clout in 4c to try and push things through that were agreed upon at the start of us not doing. The sad thing is that anything that even looks like the old game at a passing glace will get shat on even if nobody from the old group is involved.

true. but usually(i think) mass producing a singular product, especially one in high demand like a main food product, is more profitable.

yes, but Griffons have been shown to actually have numbers and a kingdom.

if were being honest, the only ones we know enough about to possible have as a race are: Ponies, Yaks(iffy here), Bison, Griffons.

Technically we know the Saddle Arabians possibly have a unique look and their own kindgom, but otherwise have seen nothing about them.

Zebras are only 'allowed' because Zecora is a secondary character, but in all reality we dont know anything about them at all.

You have a good point, but in the opposite direction, as in what should be allowed is possibly a very different set of races. neither includes giraffes though, you snowflake.

Let me tell all of you a story with a lesson at the end...
>Have a simple fishing quest where i take both Griff and Mich with me. Not too dangerous really
>Take a bit, but we arrive at the peaceful lake, majestic birds present as well.
>Griff hooks a fish, but then a rock gator steals it from him while still on the hook! It doesn't attack them, it just walks away with the fish
>The two griffons on the other hand, don't hesitate to attack it. Doesn't work. the gator doesn't really react to that though and just leave
>The two decide that it would be a smart idea to try and hunt it down
>Of course, cobweb is against it, but the two go anyways
>As GM, i warn them that i can't guaranty their safety
>they go anyways
>So, after the two try and figure out how to find it, one of them comes out of the lake and lays down on the dirt
>Simple right? Its not doing anything, just quietly relax on the dirt
>Griff manages first try to get its maw roped up, preventing it from opening its mouth. Great!
>Gator doesn't give two fucks, doesn't really react
>Griff decides to throw a javelin at its eyes. Gets 20!
>Too bad its got scales as hard as stone, even able to properly cover its eyes. Still does damage though
>Gator is angry, charges them. So far so good, no problem on their end
>Gator even trips on the rope somewhat and the two are able to flip it over to do some good damage!
Part 1/2
>>
>Thats when the easy part ends~
>Gator rolls over into a ball and keeps rolling
>then it turns...
>Oh god its charging at mich! He gets run over and slashed by its rocky scale spikes
>They try to run away, but they fail
>Lucky for them, on the second way in the gator misses and rolls into a tree, turning it onto its back again
>Rather then run, they try to finish it off
>They wound him a bit more, but not enough
>they can't keep it onto its back, now the gator is trying to run away
>the griffons attempt to pull him back, preventing it from going into the water
>Gator shakes them off and escapes, leaving the two griffons exhausted and wounded

Now, what have learned today?
When nature offers you peace and quiet as well as some gentle wildlife to observe

The defense presents this chatlog to the thread, to prove the innocence of Verdict Day. I ask you read this, keeping in mind that all the defendant was doing, was defending himself.

https://pastebin.com/drZqqAXn

I trust this evidence will be read with an objective lens. Let us not concern ourselves with the revisionism from Blue Belle, who I know will inevitably post nothing more than petty insults. Let us look at the objective facts:
>First, Key Tapper plays victim after instigating this shitstorm, attempting to bait me by feigning sorriness.
>Second, Stray Shot and Blue Belle were abusing their power. To make sure Ruby didn't come in and deny them their banning of me, they sloppily hurried to wipe me out.
>Finally, it seems that the majority of the users are following in the footsteps of certain users. I believe this is worth noticing. Perhaps they're afraid that a similar fate to Verdict Day's will ensue if they disagree, hence the strangely wooden responses.
Can we be sure his punishment was just, knowing all this? I ask the members of the thread realize that this was nothing more than blatant abuse of power.

Well, I'm not entirely sure what you mean, given that I thought that was an airtight answer. Hopefully one of these answers covers what you're asking, please excuse me for not getting it.

1. This fight happened because of Key Tapper's strange grudge for me. Now I don't know why, but I see no other reason for his behavior. To be so vile that you instigate a fight, and then play victim with a bullshit apology? Pardon me for repeating myself, but he's truly vile.
2. The fight began with typical squabbling over consoles. Key Tapper started spamming, so I assumed we were on to the inane banter phrase. I'm pretty good at finding manipulative cocksuckers, so I caught on to what Key Tapper's game plan was. He shouldn't have been so quick to accuse me of being emotional. Better luck next time.

Hope that's better.

So, while you guys are doing that,
Here is a slightly updated map of the town. The PSD file with all the open layers can be found in the lore channel. Post buildings you want to see, pick out your house, draw a penis on it, etc. I'll update this maybe two or 3 more times before I get bored and leave it to you all to finish.

If you need photoshop, Adobe offers CS2 for free legally. http://www.redmondpie.com/download-adobe-photoshop-cs2-for-free-legally-while-you-still-can/

Now we wait for someone better to come along and make an even better version of this.

I'd suggest the mills be moved here. The mill(s) themselves could be inside the wall with the wheel axle(s) running through it.

Given that we're in the jungle, I doubt we'd have enough wind to drive windmills.
Of course, we could have donkey mills (or pony mills, in our case) but water would probably be preferable.
Also, given the proximity to the ocean, the river is probably too slow moving to feed an undershot wheel, so it might need to have a water chute running from fairly far up river, if we're going full autism.

The best part of this? You actually are.

>You know you've got nothing here
Objection! The only one who knows they have nothing is YOU, because you know I am your GOD deep down. I'm an untouchable force, and I bend you like a twig every time. Even a king can be struck back if he's careless with his peasants, but it seems I've surpassed that.

You don't scare me, because you have no power here. >You pretend like you have might, like you have power, like you matter.
Fiction is grounded in reality, I'd suppose.
>You know though, don't you? You know just how little you're actually worth
YAWN. Is your last resort to try and turn me, the greatest man you'll ever see, against myself? If you can't even make yourself strong enough to withstand me, what makes you think you can defeat me in a battle of wits? What gave you this inane idea that your insecurities, yes, YOUR insecurities, have any relation to me?
>behind all of the gloating, behind all of the masks you've put on in order to shield yourself, beyond every text post, is the sniveling little man that everyone knows you are.
Oh, please. There is no need for a master of battle to have a shield. If you had any skill whatsoever, you'd know that the superior have no need to defend themselves against their inferiors. That is the right earned by masters, kings, and yes, GODS.
>You don't scare me
Your powerless bluff is fueled by your fear. You know DEEP DOWN that you're nothing more than another parasite for me to punish. Your one birthright is that of submission, remember this.
>you might have scrapped together some meaningless authority in communities far removed
Kings are to be hailed wherever they go.
>your words are your sword and your mind the arm you swing with

With every passing comment my joviality only grows! For you are the kind of man who speaks long but means little; the kind of man that swells his chest at the passing of an infant; the kind of man that prays with every passing encounter that the other doesn't look their way, for fear of recognizing the weakness of their soul. Ha! What you call utter obliteration, I call a paltry attempt at banter. What you consider Godhood I call serfdom. What you regard as strength, I recognize as vulnerability. You drone on and on about being the master here, yet you've done nothing to exert your control. If these are your subjects, then why do none of them bow to you? If these are your inferiors, then why have you failed to slay even a single one that denies your legitimacy?

I know the answer, as do you. No matter how much you talk, and lord do you talk, you will never be able to weasel your way into true power. You will always be left empty handed. You will never see the absolution you so obviously crave.

And, please, you should know better than anyone that I'm by no means a leftist. Had you stopped and considered your actions you might have been able to prevent this hilarious embarrassment.

>my joviality only grows
Leave the verbose diction to me, damn kid.
>man who speaks long but means little
I suppose anything can mean little if you take some tryhard nihilistic view of life.
>swells his chest at the passing of an infant
You overestimate how much I care for the affairs of those who aren't my enemy nor friend.
>for fear of recognizing the weakness
Close. I pray they don't look so they don't have a second to prepare. I prefer to use my time efficiently.

Funny how when YOU attempt to hurt my feelings, it's supposedly domination. Yet, when I'm making these insects cry, it's suddenly nothing. It's almost as if your life purpose is based on falsehood.
>none of them bow to you
Rebellion is to be expected. Either by the wronged people, or the now-dethroned authority. I have a case of the latter thinking they're the former.

Keep spinning your wheels, Timmy. You're getting nowhere fast and it's a wondrous show indeed.

Soon this thread will perish, and with it your only claim to "renown" in this community. You might be remembered with a chuckle or a laugh, because not a single person actually takes you seriously. Even the person you used to bait this whole flaming mess thinks you're a joke. You've provided us all with some quality laughs, and for that I thank you from the deepest depths of my heart. I can't help but engage you every time we meet, because you, without failure, manage to outdo your previous blunders time and time again. It speaks little of me, I know, to be engaging with such fools as yourself. You've no place here, and you've no ground with which to stand upon.

For someone who proclaims his divine right, you hold little true authority.

>You're getting nowhere fast and it's a wondrous show indeed
The only show I see right now is "The Humiliation of Anon, or King Timothy's Judgement."
>Soon this thread will perish, and with it your only claim to "renown"
You seem to believe that when a thread dies, every concept in it dies as well. Tell me, my dear. If that was true, why are you still desperately seeking revenge against me? If you were right, you'd have long been silenced. So no, your claim is shit. Plus, when you have to resort to discussing the end of a thread, you've lost.
>not a single person actually takes you seriously
Case in point, you're trying to pass the buck of your sins. People who don't get taken seriously must be exterminated. You have no right to live, insect.
>Even the person you used to bait this whole flaming mess thinks you're a joke
What the fuck are you on about? Are you having a mental break?
>You've provided us all with some quality laughs
You're like a jiggaboo claiming that he was king of Egypt. The only joy that has been felt in this battle was mine. You have never done anything but cry and bluster.
>you, without failure, manage to outdo your previous blunders time and time again
Don't be silly. The job of failure is yours, and I wouldn't dare infringe upon your birthright. After all, you've offered yourself as tribute to your god every time my identity was revealed.
>It speaks little of me, I know, to be engaging with such fools as yourself
You're wrong. It speaks little of you to lose. Given that you lost not just tonight's battle, but EVERY OTHER, you have no place in a society where invalids like you are hunted down.
>you've no ground with which to stand upon.
You don't need ground when you're soaring above your foes.

You likely don't know who this is. Unless, of course, you're an obsessive britbong like Knighty.

Let me introduce myself. Timothy Scott Breen, AKA Not Ben Stiller, AKA The Zam. It seems that trouble follows me wherever I go. This is a report on said trouble in FiMFiction, and what you can do to help fix it.

FiMFiction is a fantastic site. There are so many things you can do with the MLP universe, it's ridiculous. All these characters, unexplored options...yes, it's a great show. Until Season 3, anyway, but I'm getting off-track.

I'm here to discuss the corruption in the FiMFiction management system, and how Knighty is a punk in every sense of the word.

Let's begin with how I first got banned. I was high out of my mind and got banned for telling Wanderer D to shut his mouth when his superiority complex kicked in. Now, a temporary ban would be fine. I could accept that. However, calling me a child and permanently banning me? Over the fucking line.

Afterwards, I shitposted some every now and then before deciding to return to finish my stories. This is the point where my basic rights(no, not privileges, RIGHTS. Fuck off Meeester you aspie apologist) are taken from me. Specifically, the right to create and share my works.

I quickly learned I had a ban-on-sight on my head, thanks to me getting banned for every shitty reason. Oh, I hurt someone's feelings? This is the internet, fuckface. I don't care about your feelings, no one cares about your feelings. The only reason I was banned is because Knighty has a grudge for calling his dicksucker a faggot.
>>
>>30042431
Anyway, this war went on until I noticed a pattern: betray me and you get rewarded. For example, you know how Meeester became a proofreader? Fun fact, he doesn't proofread at all. He's a proofreader because he booted me from the proofreader group for calling someone a sperglord. Really, as a gimp, even I know us cripples deserve to be hated. Maybe that's why Knighty is so hellbent on his hate to me. Who cares, it's over the line.

Anyway, I decided to try to expose this and some faglord, bats, decided to attempt to have a Wanderer D level superiority complex. This failed amazingly, but he still got mentioned by Knighty in a tweet. This wouldn't matter if Knighty hadn't said that he liked TwiDash when he joined the group recently, after bats talked shit to me. There's no way this is a coincidence.

Next, I decided to get my friend Shadowflash to help me. He posted a picture of screencaps I took of mods being shitheads, like Poultron calling me a faggot, knighty telling me to kill myself and calling me a moron when he should be taking the higher ground, and other things.

At this point, Eldorado showed him fake shit to assimilate him. Shadow quickly went against me, and, after betraying me, became a proofreader. Eldorado became a mod. Coincidence? Fuck no. This is all according to Knighty's plan.

Little does he know, with your help, we will end his reign of terror upon the fandom. I, The Zam, will regain my place at the top of the fandom, the Alpha of the fandom and the Omega of injustice, and we will be free to do as we please once more.

Spread the word.

>Why would I cry at a post on the internet?
Feelingsfags gonna feelingsfag.
>Like, I know you've got all the conspiracy and shit to deal with,
In other words, I'm right about people wanting me dead.
>Why would I literally cry at something that has no effect on me?
Who gives a damn. I called you a cryingfag, and that's that. That's your life now.
>You'd have to have the sensitivity of Fluttershy or some gay shit like that.
Well, can you confirm you're NOT Fluttershy?
>Really, you think you're driving people to tears
I know I am.
>Please, the most you can do is make already weak girly colts (the most vulnerable) cry and think they've done everything wrong,
Well that's no good, I don't like competing for the title of "most vile being in existence."
>past that you're just another shitposter.
The term you're looking for is god.

I believe that's all from your kind. We'll meet again, I'm well aware. Kyrie eleison.
