This is exactly what urks me the most about this show: There's so much atmosphere put into the most mundane scenes the show has to offer and NONE OF IT IS EVER EXPANDED UPON! EVER!

Caves littered with diamonds, Highlands inhabited with gryphons, a complex tunnel system that expands the entire underworld of Equestria, fucking HELL LANDSCAPES!?!

So much atmosphere and they hardly ever address any of it! Why?! There's so much cool shit in Equestria! Why can't we have a story arc dedicated to exploring Equestria or some shit? God knows I'd watch it.

Because the second you address the atmosphere it immediately stops being so atmospheric. Most of the appeal of all the cool shit is that it's this grand, mystical bullshit in a seemingly normal, small, personal world. It's pure and unexplained and virtually undiscovered. It's glimpses of something larger in a show where everything is focused on small, unimportant characters. The second you go into detail and explain how this castle was actually built by king chucklefuck to fight plant monsters, the atmosphere and appeal vanishes.

If we had known there was an underground lake beneath Ponyville from day one, no one would be impressed by it.

Honestly she's still had basically zero real friendship development with the mane 6. She's had some basic activities with them and had them called friendship lessons, but just doing stuff with people doesn't mean you're connecting with them on a friend level. I mean, first chance she had, she turned them into her mind-slaves to make it easier to deal with them not feeling like doing stuff.

Well, magic has been shown to be a very detail-oriented field based on having a complete idea formed to accomplish a spell. I mean, that's how she managed to teach Trixie transfiguration and teleportation in a very short time frame. She empowers her magic with her emotions, but at a base level, magic is based on logic. Kite-flying is about on that level, requiring you to take into account all the different things that go on in the air and generating lift and compensating for changes in atmosphere and wind.
