Can we talk about this? I finally got around to watching last week's episode, which I heard only good things about, even here. Then, it was this weird doesn't-really-feel-like-pony thing. Same problem I had with The Saddle Row Review. Both episodes were funny, but not pony. Both episodes were lacking some core of character, like they were one continuous gag. I didn't come to MLP to watch Community.

That's an interesting approach to it. Why do you think it's not pony? I can kinda get SRR but FOE wasn't really one giant gag, it had a lot of genuine character moments. It had pretty good pacing and it wasn't over the top. Twilight was also pretty good and bottom line that's all I need from an episode.

Overall I think that the positive reaction is from people who expected absolute vile vomit and got something decent instead. Just look at >>29928003 for example. It is by no means a 10/10 but it at least wasn't absolute shit.

She's still new, barely knowing her friends, and lies in a town she saved where everyone knows her by name as a librarian and savior. However, the story does then manage to serve as to why she eventually DOES dance like no one's business.

I'm worried it might be an unnecessary explanation for why she dances son "confidently".

I'm just unsure how much it'll feel like Twilight, you know?

In Cutie Mark Chronicles she said that she was so fascinated with magic that she dedicated all her time to learn about it. All because she saw Celestia raising the sun during the Summer Sun Celebration. I guess it just so happened that her parents had that study she could use, it was in itself like a library. As a result her parents enrolled her in Celestia's school but even before that she got accustomed to just reading and studying alone and I guess it became her habit, and then her nature.
I don't think being the best has something to do with it, she always tries her hardest and then some more because she assumes responsibility but I think being competitive isn't really that important to her.

I always thought of it like this: there's no internet, no television, so what do shut-ins do? Read. She's lived through fantasies and her own insulated life as many of us have. She's a neet, she's a shut-in. She comes up with crackpot theories, writes, reads... Her story is that she is one of us, but learns that maybe the world isn't so overwhelming when you can have friends, you know? That's what I love about Twilight: her life story could very well apply to a lot of us in that regard. Then again...I could very well be looking at this in the wrong way. I think Twilight's whole character is deeper than what we see on the level of the show. Her motivations, her OC-like behavior...

As for being the best, I wouldn't say that she does in the sense of wanting to feel superior, but rather hungry for knowledge. She wants to be the best student, not out of competition or anything, but because she believes she HAS to be good at what she does. She absorbs responsibility and whatnot like a sponge and hangs on to it fo her life. What she does is so important to her, that the fear of making a mistake is an option that must be avoided. Some of this has probably been negated as the show's progressed, though. I think she wants to be the best at what she does in the way we all want to be best at what we are passionate about.

Yeah, this describes it perfectly, it's exactly like this for me as well. Sometimes it's like it just pushes out right from my chest but there's just no exit. I can't even think of words to describe it even if I wanted to. It's like describing everything I think and feel won't nearly be enough. And it is so tempting to just say it, doesn't matter who hears it. I guess you could say it's all bottled up

There's always ways to express it creatively, like music, art and writing but it's a lot harder than it seems. I guess the only real raw exit for those emotions is throught the tear ducts with those sweet tears of joy. Sometimes it's just too much.
