Apparently when Faust said how she didn't like G1, that implied she didn't like how its villains were actually threatening.
Because Nightmare Moon was a pretty terrible villain to be honest.
She started off by trying to kill Twilight by fall or by manticora, but then inexplicably resorts to shit like making spoopy trees and cutting off moustaches. Wow so scary. Honestly her S4 and S5 appearances were more enjoyable, I don't think anyone can deny that.
Plus her plan made no fucking sense.

First of all, the first season was great
Second of all, it's true that if most of the episodes now people criticize came out back then, they simply wouldn't be criticized
Third of all, I love Lauren but she's a crybaby and bitter AF, if she had her way 100 percent apparently MLP would have been some edgy anime, and it never would have happened to begin with

I think what's important to note here is that people fell in love with the end product that was MLP, which was a combination of Laurens vision and other influences. And also that haters of the show are just that, haters, half of them don't even watch new episodes at all they just call them all shit regardless.

Winter Wrap Up was a fine episode
It explained how weather works in Equestria, that alone is a far more creative effort than simply "a cheerful song" and it also may be a cliche concept, but the episode still aided in furthering Twilight's story and progression with the citizens of Ponyville

Everything can be considered overrated, everything can be considered bad or good, even things universally considered good can be considered bad by someone and they have their reasons (their redpill). S1 wasn't bad, it was just unrefined and often played too heavily to the "show for little girls" angle. Season 2 improved a lot in those areas, as well as by making the songs integrated better and the stories less predictable.
