Am I allowed to submit a different version of a song? I remixed "To Where and Back Again" so the vocals and harmonies were mixed better. And threw in some reverb, I wish I would have done this beforehand, but oh well.

On a recommendation from the last thread, I've decided I want to write and perform lyrics for this song. I'm not quite sure what approach to take though, should I just write down some key thoughts or words that come to mind?

I would listen to it and just write whatever you think of. Brainstorm, and maybe develop some ideas from that. And thinking of melodies helps too

Nevermind the whole project: that's over 750Mb.
I've uploaded hopefully enough material to suffice anyone who wants to sing it.

Song is written by Dzahlus.
I did the majority of the composition with additions made by Dzahlus and ElectroCelloFag.
Anoridan was slated to do the mixing (has put together the demo/collab so far), added the drums as well as emulated piano and his friend did the bass.
Engie did the violin.
I'm supposed to be bringing the whole thing together.
Singer required: apply within.

Yeah. Start with some key points, then build lyrics around those, or just go at and write whatever comes to mind. Depends on how your brain works. There are usually people here who can help with lyrics too.

Now that I listen to this, I have some thoughts, though it does sound better than before:

If you want the guitars to sound larger, try double tracking them (playing the exact thing twice and panning those left and right. This is mainly used for rhythm parts)

Overall, the voice seems to get overpowered by the guitar. Are you using any compression? EQ?

I could do that but I don't want to post the song a third time. I mean I could always do that if you think it'd sound better. And as for the voice, I didn't do anything but mess with the volume settings for each vocal track (verse, ch, etc). I must have mixed based on some vocal loud piece or something since different genres mix differently. Idk how to use eq or compression. If you still wanna go at it, would you want me to send you the source files?

Definitely read that the other way around. As for the guitar, I did the same thing I did for vocals (volume control). Well, that or I played the middle part louder.

Didn't realise it was a 55 second clip 'til I heard it for the third time on loop, thinking it's still the first.

To Where And Back Again sounds awesome but, regrettably, it still needs a lot of work on it.
I hate it when people say "that's a nice draft" to stuff I think I've finished but I feel I need to say it here.
Perhaps drop a link to the raw individual files and someone like Sound Guy can have a jiggery-poke with it, to give you a better idea of how to improve it.

Yeah, I know. It's just so hard to mix properly and all that stuff. Fucking frustrating, especially when it sounds different thru so many speaker setups. I'll post a link to all the assets. Hopefully he can help.
