It's better than MMC because the songs don't feel like a waste of time and the main plot doesn't get compressed on top of that to make room for a complete tangent. MMC is a trainwreck but CotLM is that episode done right.

Magical Mystery Cure was rushed because it tried to stack two virtually unrelated story threads into a single 30-minute episode and then had the gall to fill it with songs that didn't help advance the story.

This trimmed that down by creating a single, linear story. Filling it with songs still wasn't that productive but at least it didn't have to concern itself with transitioning to a different story halfway through.

I didn't say that the songs didn't advance the plot (that's another area that it improved over MMC) but it's using songs in that way at all that is maddening. I'm someone who likes dialogue and exposition over just smash-cutting a bunch of scenes together to fill a song.

The majority of the songs stifled the advancement of the plot. Instead of getting_shit_done they just wasted time singing low-key like a bunch of sore-throat retards.

The songs were fucking garbage and making a parody musical out of an episode as important as Cutie Mark Chronicles and Mare In The Moon was just a massive and obvious spit on the injury. A clear message of "Fuck you and fuck little girls and their families".

Completely disagree there, but to each his own.
I like the crusaders talents because in a way it's what they've been doing best and enjoyed the most all these years(definition of cutie mark), only their focus was applied to helping others instead of finding their own way. Fits into the whole harmony narrative of the show.

The CMCs finally getting their cutie marks after five seasons of spectacular failures marked the biggest change in FIM's continuity other than Twilight getting their wings. However, unlike Twilight's promotion which was lampshaded to hell and back by the the Hasbro toy department, the CMC's cutie marks came as a total surprise to the audience. That in itself makes CotLM one of the greatest episodes in the series.
