It hadn't taken long for every reporter far and wide to descend upon Hoofington. From far and wide, they'd smelled the wisp of the biggest story of the year, and not a one could keep themselves back. No matter the potential danger, the still uncertainty of what transpired in that blasted wasteland, any bringer of the truth worth their salt had been drawn like a fly to honey.

Now, they all waited with bated breath for their princesses words.

Her hoof came up, but could not silence a one of the shouting reporters that screamed at her from every corner, demanding answers and cries that would not be sated from something so simple.

Her scream proved more than effective where simple words had failed.

Everyone, no matter how brave they thought themself, went quiet when against her rage. No reporter had the courage to keep going when someone so frazzled, so angry and so very desperate shouted them down like that.

"So then, what you're saying is that you had nothing to do with actually defeating Chitania or stopping whatever plan she was mere seconds from pulling off?"

None, but one bearing a suspiciously familiar trademark of a subsidiary of a very familiar company.

Gasps, scribbling of notes, flashes of lenses and pure fury followed in her words wake.

The stallion asking had never looked more cool and collected.

More cries, more scribbling, more shouts, but the reporter did not move. She hadn't beaten him, but the trap had not sealed either.

"PRINCESS! Can you say anything about the current whereabouts of the city's population? Were they killed in the battle? Are you sealing off the city for exhumation of their remains?"

Her stomach churned terribly, no matter how hard she tried to steel it. With a sigh, she shook her head.

>Unfortunately, the... individuals that were the focus of this attack were conducting experiments with a magical power that is sadly unable to be understood at this moment. We have no idea who, if any, of the citizens were harmed by it, or if it has some other effect we do not know about. Considering who we're dealing with, we are ordering this entire city quarantined until the magic is understood and properly dealt with.

Her prayers quickly shifted to the hope she'd get out of the way in time.

So much had been lost.

For that one silent moment, she just stared.

He almost started when he heard her voice. Almost jumped and bowed out of habit or respect. Almost saluted, almost bent at the knee. Almost did anything, but didn't do a single one of them.

"Seven... are you okay?"

He didn't even move, not even for the most brillient princess of Equestria addressing him directly. Not even her gentle words could make him move from his spot. He'd been ordered to be still and be silent.

It was all he could give right now.

"I need to speak with you."

>My... my Queen likely wishes me to cooperate with you, I will answer any questions you have.

She winced at his dulled tone, being careful when she took her seat next to him.

"Just tell me... what happened up there?"

He told her exactly that. As thoroughly as he could, he spoke of all the information Sunset had given him on her portal, and her creation. He spared no single detail lost on the stone, the orb, and what she had claimed of the magic beneath the surface.

Even as she wrote down every word of it, she couldn't help but note he spoke very little of the battle following his entrance into the room, barely giving it a single sentence to tell her he'd fought her and reached a stalemate before moving on to the portal, and all it meant. More worrying still, he spared no detail on his defeat, how Sunset outwitted him and Chitania had pinned him. For all the matters she could wish to know on that portal, and his defeat, he told her.

>And finally... Spike made the call to Pennydrop. He gave a simple order... glass the building. I slipped free, broke out, caught them, and the rest... you know.

With a final stroke of her pen, she closed her notebook, neatly labeling all the information he'd given and storing it away for instant and easy use, as if she could ever forget what he'd said.

"Is that all?"

She didn't acknowledge him, or even glance his way. All her sight and all her mind was focused straight ahead, nowhere else.

He hissed, eyes narrowing while pointed to the ground and that hoof twitching once again. He never looked at her, but she could feel the chitin begin to itch with the feeling of her presence.

Even still, she would not move, not even when his glaring eyes cut over to her.

"Thank you."

Her soft, sincere words cut him off and sealed off all the fire that had been building with it.

"Thank you so... so much for saving him. What he did was stupid, and reckless, and shortsighted, and so very wrong. He should have called us, he never should have gone in there and he got so hurt... and then he almost..."

He couldn't even breath through his clenched throat when he saw her eyes starting to sparkle.

For over an hour now, there had been nothing but rain.

The thunder, the lightning, even the howling wind had all died down for a time. All had gone quiet as if in mourning following the cries and the rage that had been cast to the heavens. A fear, or a respect had been shown and followed after the princess had unleashed everything to a storm that rolled on without pause, nature unbowed and unmoved no matter all she had sent against it.

The thought was soothing, as equally it was disheartening to the soul beneath the makeshift canopy. With a sight that never left the steady mist that covered all sight beyond the few scant steps beyond their shelter, the mind behind those eyes found little comfort, and great pain.

The storm could not be quelled by her might, no matter how strong.

She had been useless once again.

"Who was she?"

It felt almost insulting to have her thoughts broken, her moment of peace already generous felt paltry now that it had been struck away. It was that anger, unjust or not, that came through the eyes that tore away from the beating rain, and toward the stone faced reflection of her own visage sitting at her side.

"Don't give me that, you've had your little moment, Ah' need to know what about this thing was so great it made you lose your mind over it."

Bitter eyes cut away, her shoulder rising in a sad attempt to block off the piercing gaze. It was useless, every bit as much as if she'd put up a wall of stone.

"Who. Was. That."

When she appeared in front of her, either by spell or speed too fast to follow, there was no escape left to be had. She could run back out into the rain and the storm and back out into the cold and the downpour. She could flee, that was an option.

An option she cursed she would not follow, as her stubborn sensibility took hold at the worst possible moment. What sanity had returned to her would not allow another outburst to form.

Her ever annoying stubbornness would not let her run.

It hadn't felt completely sincere, yet unmistakably there was some hint of effort hidden away in the mostly dismissed accent. To call it honest an exaggeration, to call it sarcastic unfair, it simply was what it was.

The only reason I lean towards her being honest, besides the obvious of "It's still AJ", is how hard she comes down on anyone when a citizen is actually suffering, or when there is a problem that the future generation will have to deal with. Something like famine or ponies living under constant attacks or even bad job prospects would all fall under that umbrella, and we've seen how she reacts when something gets in her sight. She has the power now and nobody is telling her to stop, she'd do it if she knew about it and she'd do everything she could to learn about it.

Like, maybe they don't like her, but none of them are actually suffering in any tangible and physical fashion. No chance. She wouldn't ask for help, but she wouldn't deny when she failed either, she did it before. She'd keep to close an eye on everyone to let anything slip past her.

I get that working with mentioning a character you dislike can be worrying, but honestly that kind of challenge is the sort of thing that is going to happen a lot, especially in the proposed plan you had with Twilight. I wouldn't worry about Pennydrop for while. Twilight's main objective should be giving DT movement again. Then it could be get to know DT and have a heart to heart. Through Twilight we can find out more what motivates DT and if your story bombs we'll catch you and help you refine it. We're all /pa/ls here. Don't be afraid to fail. Just fail fast and get back up faster. As long as you get the ball rolling.

Alright, well in the desire to be constructive, I do want to point out there really has to be a reason for DT to trust her first. Twilight has not given any reason and they're not particularly close, why does DT accept it instead of her friend? That's what I think he needs to establish to make the story work. The story in question had no pushback and little in the way of reasoning why she accepts Twilight instead of fighting her, and I feel like the story will be more engaging if it gets included. This, I feel, will also help setup the future examination of DTs motivations, both for the audience and the offer. WHY is she okay with it, what is making her want to give it a shot now with someone she doesn't trust? Give us that bit and I feel like you'll have a lot more confidence in your work because you will have a firmer grasp of what is driving her.

Just my suggestion.

That's a good start. Have DT question why she did that, wonder why she didn't come see her and then suddenly went away. Obviously she wouldn't turn on her friend instantly, but this is the perfect time for her to doubt and at least consider Twilights offer, even if outright accepting is a bit too much. There's setup here for doubt for who her friends are, and if Twi is as bad as she thought and has believed for a year now. Use that to build up.
