WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY THINKING?
Ok, here is the plan, you will make a forum account (if you don't have one already) and we will spam "please update the Greenlight page" all over the place, got it?
>>
>>29917663
You talk about this every thread. At least I hope that's all one person who keeps talking about the greenlight page, because one person is weird enough as is.

What on earth do you want with the greenlight page. Nobody gives a fuck. It's only a thing that matters till the game is greenlit. Nobody sifts through the greenlit titles and goes "oh that looks interesting but what a shame they didn't update this page in forever, guess they haven't made any progress and the game is dead, oh well". People who honestly do look through that swamp of shit to find hidden gems will go the extra mile to google a game that peaks their interest. But that is hardly anybody to begin with.

When the game is out they will *still* not update the greenlight page by the way, they'll just create a proper steam store page that people can get the game from and that's that. At that point, if some weirdo actually does happen to stumble upon the greenlight site and they haven't deactivated it yet, they automatically get referred to the steam store page and the game's steam community hub. I don't get why you would do it any other way.

Yeah, people make this shit way too early and then must keep it alive for the week because they know no one else will bother to make the thread the day it matters.

>>29917663
Consider moving to the forums and not spam them with requests that no longer matter. (We should have done this when the Greenlight page was still relevant).

>>29918251
To add to this, they said the beta subforums will be THE place where they'll get their reports, feedback and the like so don't expect much activity on the official Steam page at least until release.

Also, we should make a list of the things they haven't finished yet so people don't go into the beta expecting those. So far I got:

- Stage variations, don't quote me on this but I think someone said some stages might not get as many variations as the others on the final game either.

- Music (apparently finished but they won't bother to put it in until release)

- Voice Acting

>>
>>29918676
Leedin's work logs have included a number of Paprika animations the past few weeks, so I would imagine she will be (mostly?) finished by the beta. That really only leaves Tianhuo and various specific animations for other characters.

I wouldn't be surprised if the actual beta build is more complete than the stuff we see on the streams, as I'm pretty sure they have a few different builds they use for dev/testing with varying levels of functionality/assets.

>>
The idea that this game is gonna be out in a month is ridiculous

Have fun with them's mighty herds nr. 9
>>
>>29921492
well the gameplay is done so finishing up animations and general polish won't take too long. the big hurdles are the VA legal shit (which sounds like a huge pain) and getting the story finished

i dunno if they'll hit the may release date, based on how things look i think it might roll into june a bit

they'd still have to do extremely significantly worse to reach MN9 tier though, a month or two delay is nothing in the kickstarted game world
>>
>>29921471

I personally didn't like it. It's like... I'm always expecting this big jump on visual and audio quality considering the date, but it feels like we are on the same spot we were before the delay.

>>29921545
I've been saying for the last months that I expect a War for Overworld scenario.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-07-19-the-messy-story-behind-the-making-of-war-for-the-overworld

Except that we won't have a "Dungeon Keeper Mobile" that makes people turn into this direction.
>>
>>29921471
Ehh/10
Mostly was just them telling people beta soon
They probably should have come up with something a little more impressive for the last official dev stream, but whatever. They can still do launch publicity streams and stuff, and actually get Lauren and all the other team members to show up, ideally with something actually prepared to talk about.

Progress wise, pretty average. A couple small gameplay changes that are actually really significant but don't look like much, more completed animations but still a lot to go, and some general quality of life lobby stuff.

Seems on track for beta late this month, if they don't mind having some unfinished bits around which is pretty common for a beta. Release I dunno, depends how far along with the stuff they aren't really showing like singleplayer and how long voiceacting takes. Wouldn't be surprised if it was another couple months though, every stream has had "Lauren's really busy and hasn't done much" or "we haven't really started that yet." They're going to have to push pretty hard if they don't want to leave such a big gap that people get tired of waiting.

>>29921610
There was actually a really big jump in audio quality this time. Still some rough stuff like Pom's dash and puppy hit sounds, but overall the sound effects are pretty close to release quality. Last time they showed any of that off it was basically just stock smack and whoosh effects stapled onto attacks.

I'm not worried about them running out of money though, they seem pretty good about budgeting, and would still have whatever pool of money is set aside for post-release stuff to dip into if it because absolutely necessary.
>>
>>29921610
I don't give a fuck if they delay for a year, or two, when the funding runs out and they have to go back to do it in their spare time. Well I would certainly give a fuck because people have been telling them to speed it up and speed it up and don't slack forever because the rate at which progress poured in has been troubling for a while. BUT I've been getting excited over this shit for like 6 fucking years, if you release it half assed and unfinished now and then it's super unfun and fades into obscurity in a week, I will honestly be pretty pissed, more so than any delay could possibly make me be pissed.

I'd rather have it be eternal vaporware than bad. Like, looking forward to it is better than having it and not enjoying it.
>>
if there's further delay for release it's only going to be for another month or two. they only have tianhuo animations along with a couple of paprika/pom/oleander ones to finish, the actual models for the characters have been done for awhile now

the actual gameplay is also pretty much complete, i'm convinced they can handle the polish within that month or two, and the rest of the stuff includes aspects that are legit out of their control like VA stuff and story so in that case it's like, whatever

at any rate i'll be in beta so i don't give a shit how long it takes as long as i can play the game while it happens

>every stream has had "Lauren's really busy and hasn't done much" or "we haven't really started that yet."

Ikr. Sometimes you get the feeling they are piss poor at budgeting their time when they say things like that so nonchalantly. These kind of comments are no longer cute, the game was supposed to be released right about now, if you feel the need to talk about how there are things you haven't even started with still, at least act fucking embarrassed or something? They really take the goodwill of their community for granted.
>>
>>29933755
>At least act embarassed
What the fuck? Why would that change anything?

I don't know how you think they're trying to be "cute" with those kinds of comments, it's just them being honest about what's done and isn't done. Would you rather them be super cagey about it? Like 90% of the stuff they "haven't started yet" is minor things that really aren't necessary for the game to function, or things like Lauren and the VAs where it's kind of out of their control.

The mechanical/gameplay parts of the game are all demonstrably finished and all that's left is finishing animations and polish, and making sure shit doesn't straight up explode when people get their hands on it (which is what beta is for).

They seem to have a pretty good idea of how long the rest of it is going to take to wrap up, otherwise they wouldn't be starting beta yet. It's not like they can hide anything once beta is out anyway. I think you're imagining problems where there aren't any.

Shit, the fact that a crowdfunded game is coming out anywhere near it's original projected release date is rather surprising.
>>
>>29933948
Also if you really want to feel better about how this game is coming along, just compare it to the fucking Homestuck game.

desu it's not just 'their' problem.
It's kind of normal, even. Everytime there's a new team of people getting together and making a kickstarter, it always ends up late.
And nothing's wrong with that, it's simply because they haven't ever done anything so big before and expect to be able to keep going 120%, the way they worked on X or Y before starting said kickstarter, then they understand that life is complicated and they can't keep going at that speed for several reasons.
So, maybe there's a bit of time managing in there, coupled with them trying stuff out that doesn't end up in the final game, and what I said above, and bam, you have another kickstarted game coming out later than expected.
>>
>>29934145
Yeah I agree, and that's why any delays don't really bother me since they've honestly done better than I expected for a crowdfunded indie game. They've been really good at keeping people up to date with the monthly streams and worklogs too. I just want beta at this point so I can actually play the game, they can take however long they need to polish it after that.

The thing is, I'm kind of big on fighting games. So I want to say I can judge the state of the gameplay mechanics pretty well. And I don't think even that is really in order as well as it is supposed to be that close to release.

When they make for example a change like we've just seen in the last stream where they make it so that soft knockdowns have a lenghty-ish period where you're stuck to the ground even when you tech them, that is a pretty huge thing. It changes a lot of value propositions. Similarly it seems they now changed the juggle decay bar so that it always drains slowly over time instead of instantly being set to a certain value when you leave hitstun. It might sound like small details but these are things which have a huge effect on what competitive play looks like. These are sweeping global changes of a magnitude I'd expect to happen when the game is still early in development, when they're still throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks so that they can then fine-tune around it later. But making these kind of changes so close to release is really scary to me.

During/after the crowdfund all the characters god little story snippets to introduce them
https://www.mane6.com/?page_id=1087
https://www.mane6.com/?p=801

They aren't technically canon, yet, since if they change anything in the actual game and it ends up contradicting them the game takes precedence.
>>
>>29936833
I get what you're saying but I'm not sure why changes like that absolutely have to be relegated to early development. Nappy's said a number of times how the core gameplay has had to be adjusted based on how the character gameplay ended up panning out. He had a pretty solid justification for the change on the stream.

Considering we're not even in beta yet where a bunch of people can get their hands on the game it's a bit ridiculous to expect the gameplay not to be changed. Those "value propositions" are just going to be whatever the gameplay ends up being at release. I'm not sure it matters much when/if that changes prior.

I'd could understand being worried if they were still making sweeping gameplay changes across the board AFTER release, but adjusting some mechanics before beta's even started doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me.
>>
>>29937351
Honestly even big changes after release are fine, as long as they've got an endless beta/testing version or whatever like Skullgirls does.
I still wouldn't be that surprised if they decide they need some additional combo limiter. We generally don't get to see optimal combos that don't get dropped in the gameplay streams, but a couple characters like Arizona and Tianhuo look look like they might be able to do like 80% with two bars and I'm not sure how effective pure gravity scaling is going to be without having to turn it up so far it feels weird.
>>
>>29937516
Yeah I'd be totally OK with a "test version" type thing for post-release changes.

I'm pretty interested to see what the general playerbase is able to come up with once they get their hands on the game. I'm hoping we can get a few more veteran fg players in on it besides SonicFox.

so is it only going to be a closed beta or will there be an open beta eventually
>>
>>29939419
Probably only closed beta, it was an "exclusive" backer reward and they've said they don't want to give exclusive stuff to people that didn't pay for it about other stuff previously.
I don't give a shit, but its probably the safe choice to avoid pissing off random autists who might take offense.
I think they're hoping not to have too long a window between beta and release though
And someone will probably upload it somewhere anyway, I'd be surprised if they bother with any DRM
>>
>>29939419
Closed. The beta will be closed.

The last stream was a little disappointing, but I mean, the game is pretty much done. All they're really doing is adding in new animations and visuals, which are cool to see in a stream for approximately thirty seconds before you get bored.
>>
>>29939419
>>29939942
Yeah, and I think the logistics of trying to do an open beta, especially when this is an honest to god "we need to stress test all this shit" beta are probably not worth it anyway.

Since it's all being done through Steam I assume it will have whatever basic DRM is there in that respect, I dunno how hard that is to work around. The multiplayer's also going to be tied into Steam so I doubt you'd could get that to work without some sort of fuckery at least. At that point it's like "man just buy the damn game".
>>
>>29940153
>>29939942
Almost every non-AAA/AA Steam game can be cracked with a "steam emulator", it's a 12MB .exe you copy and paste into any steam game folder

But this is a multiplayer game, it's not "that fun" unless you have someone to play with you or play online

To add to this, since this is a beta we know the main single player mode won't be there, and I'm sure other single player content won't be there either so you'll have to deal with training mode and that's it.

But it has a cute lobby so it still has more content than SFV at launch.
>>
Yeah you guys please upload this when it's there. I mean the devs are gonna throw a hissyfit but it's like, the beta without story mode or multiplayer is gonna be super lame anyway and while the backers get to play for real, at least let me dabble in training mode a bit so I'm not entirely fucked when the game is out.

What I'm curious about is what exactly kind of personality Oleander suppose to have? Artist draw her as Twilight 2.0 while official artwork give off that she's the more mature than the rest of the cast and could give less of a shit for anyone.

The "Voice Acting United Nations" (I don't remember the real name) is in a protest against the video gaming industry because "they don't get paid enough for their voice acting role"
Because every voice actor should get 3000$ for every line
>>
>>29946501
I don't know how much they get paid but it can't be so little they have to make a fuss about it
>>
>>29946557
It kind of depends
The actual rate for voiceacting is generally pretty decent in terms of $/time spent, but its also really inconsistent and random nobodies can get treated pretty poorly sometimes.
So some of the things they want are generally reasonable, although whether the benefits VAs would actually see outweigh the overhead it would take to enforce anything is debatable at best, but a couple of their demands, like fucking royalties from every sale are ridiculous and making the whole process way more controversial than it has to be.

I draw her as a sort of rebellious teenager/young adult, at least thats what I gather from her backstory. She thinks that using dark magic shouldn't be forbidden or feared because she doesn't know better.

>but a couple of their demands, like fucking royalties from every sale are ridiculous

This is pretty much the only thing out of the entire VA strike deal I am aware of and it makes me think they're a bunch of entitled stuck up jerks
>>
>>29945352
Because all the legal/contractual shit takes fucking forever. Last update I heard is the voice director (Cristina Vee) had some picks and they were working all the aforementioned legal shit out.

I guess the upside is there's not THAT much to record in a game like this, so the VAs can probably bang it out in a day and send it over and they can put the voices in. As long as they can get the bulk of it done by release then there isn't much of an issue (aside from the playerbase's blueballs of not being able to hear the voices).
>>
>>29947283
That's good then, I wonder who Vee is voicing

On the other hand, games like NieR: Automata hired Newgrounds tier people and they seem to be doing just fine (regardless of what you think of said actors as individuals).
>>
Yeah, if they try and cut corners with voice acting, it can really come back to kick them in the ass.
>>
Can anyone recommend a good PC-compatible fightstick that they're using (or planning to use) when this comes out?

Played fighting games before or new to the genre?

I don't think getting a stick for a 4 button airdasher-type game is a good idea at all to be honest.
>>
>>29948449
A little bit, but never super seriously; I used a stick for SC3/4 but I was never more than a casual, and I realize TFH is a totally different type of game.
>>
>>29949349
Hm. That's probably still more experience than the average person who's going to pick up TFH is going to have anyway.

I personally use a tournament edition stick from madcatz. Which is cheapest choice if you want the fabled sanwa hardware but are too lazy to go custom. But now that Madcatz is bankrupt it might actually be tricky to get one I guess?

But all in all I'm more of a gamepad guy and the hori fighting commander 5 has been doing wonders for me lately. Best of all it's dirt cheap, comparatively.

I got a Hori Fighting Stick Mini 4 a month or two ago and its actually surprisingly decent. I've never used any other sticks for more than a few seconds so I'm not the best judge, but while its obviously not top of the line it also doesn't feel like cheap junk.
The size is a little annoying, but for almost 1/4 the price of anything else available in canada I have no complaints. Sticking it onto a textbook or piece of mdf or something with velcro helps a lot.
It'll work with TFH out of the box presumably, since it does with Skullgirls.

If you're willing to spend a little more, or have more options I'd suggest a full size stick definitely, but if you aren't sure you want to stick with it, 50$ is a lot more comfortable than 200$
