I can tell a familiar VA from whenever I hear a character's voice, and whenever I hear her voice, I think, "Oh nice, it's Tara!" To someone who watches a lot of cartoons, hearing a familiar voice can be like seeing a close friend performing in a play.
In fact, one of the reasons I enjoy MLP is because of Tara; I grew up hearing her as Timmy Turner, Raven, and many others. Some people find comfort in familiarity.

This. I know Yuri Lowenthal, Grey DeLise, Ron Pearlman, Dan Green, Chris Sabaton, Sean Schemel, Mark Hamil, and many more right when I hear their voices. That doesn't mean they're bad at their jobs, they're just familiar. As for Tara's actual vocal range, it used to be much wider. When she landed a gig as Twilight, that became her only voice save for Timmy. I'm sure that when the show ends and she has to work for a living again, she'll go back to her normal range of voices.
