Dude looks like he's got many stories to tell.
I like that dude.
>>
>>29883363
And it ends, with the movie.
Then the show just subtly turns into Starlight Glimmer.

I think I might know why he likes a happy and colorful show about pastel ponies.

Starlight Glimmer did nothing wrong
>>

Because he lost all his friends in the jungles of Vietnam?

Why does everyone assume every veteran has seen combat? Many vets never leave the base but since they served overseas, they can call themselves an "x" veteran. I served in Iraq as a fucking clerk for my entire tour

Doesn't mean he didn't possibly make friends that saw active combat and didn't come back. Especially in Vietnam

This.
I served 7 years, all overseas (Europe, Middle East, Africa). I participated in the Bosina & Kosovo wars but I was a fighter mechanic (F-16's pic related), not a soldier.

>Many vets never leave the base
That's pretty pathetic, but it's true. Some guys totally miss out on the opportunity to get out and explore the world at government expense.
Personally, I didn't spend a minute on base that I didn't have to.
>>
>>29885014
We lost roughly 50,000 troops in Vietnam, that's a very low number for a war we fought over 8 years. The movies and media you see make Vietnam seem like a slaughter for any serviceman sent overseas but the reality is that most battles were just light skirmishes with more losses suffered by the NVA. Junior officers took heavier casualty rates since Vietcong would especially be on the look out for them.
>>
>>29885040
Ah, my mistake. The hat's blurry as hell.
>>
>>29885045
It was 2005, I wasn't doing shit outside of base camp that didn't involve internet or my PSP. Hanging around muzzies was low on my list of things I wanted to do at the time

Given his age, he was probably either a field officer or a senior NCO.

Imagine your Top watching MLP FiM during liberty....
>>
>>29885076
That's a shame.
I was in earlier (most of the 90's) and made a lot of friends over there. None of the dudes I knew were seriously religious...just normal guys who liked to get drunk and get laid.
>>
>>29885068
You're forgetting the 150,000 wounded, that survived only because of American medical capabilities. The Vietcong/NVA's losses likewise would have been far lower if they were granted these capabilities. And don't forget about South Vietnam, that took the brunt of the fighting against the commies, and had even higher losses, despite receiving some serious America's help.

A lot wanted to go out and see the country but I sincerely didn't. Iraq was low on my places I wanted to be but I chose to take the deployment because I would have been on rotation for it eventually anyway so I just got it out of the way.

Don't worry OP. After the movie bombs there will be no season 9 and Hasbro will put all the little ponies to sleep. The last vestiges of the fandom will slowly die out and you will be free.

Save the stats for when you talk to the families of the servicemen who died and tell me how comforting they found them.
