So apparently magic works through imagination.

And emotion.
>>29882355
You realize literally nothing about this series makes sense right? There is no logic going on behind the scenes
>>29882355
yes but it follow some rules like mass conservation
>>29882355
It works through emotions.
>>29882424
Yeah but they could have had a better explanation than that shit.
Like, if magic works through imagination then why isn't every unicorn is fucking bullshit? It's not a matter of power levels, after all; if that was the case then Trixie wouldn't be able to teleport things so easily.

>>29882444
That was Starlight specifically. For all we know it varies between individuals. e.g. Maybe Twilight's magic is tied to analytical thinking, or Rarity's to artistic inspiration.
The imagination bit was one unicorn teaching another unicorn how to do something magical. It's a rule-of-thumb for the race in general.
>>29883502
If that's the case, why isn't Starlight's magic powered by thoughts of forcing those around her to submit to her will
>>29882464
Raw ability + study + willingness to try = strong magic
>>29882355
>need to turn a brick into a cup
>have to imagine what the cup looks like to do so
Duh
>imagination
>emotion
IN BRIGHTEST DAY
IN DARKEST NIGHT
>>29882464
It really is a matter of power levels, look at sunburst.
Trixies decently powerful, she just doesnt know how to cast a bunch of spells.
>>29883522
Who would be the nigga lantern? Luna? Tirek?
>>29883508
Same thing senpai. She did that BECAUSE she was overly-emotional and let it run loose. They explain it ad verbatim in the episode itself: she was powerful enough to do all that dank cutie mark shit in S5 because cutie marks were a source of emotional trauma for her.
If you're referring to the Twalot/Rarara examples, they're purely hypothetical. I pulled them out of my ass to illustrate a vague attempt at a point.
>>29883537
This makes the most sense desu
>>29883527
If you mean Black Lantern they literally have a Necromancer waiting in the wings.
>>29883544
I saw the episodes with my brother and he brought up that Twilight's S1-3 lessons were about how to be a good friend whereas Glimmer's are all how NOT to be a BAD friend, and that it rubbed him the wrong way.
I realized that the episode had already underlined the difference; Twilight could function in society just fine, she just didn't want to. She's an introvert, and simply preferred doing things on her own. So all she had to do was learn new behaviours.
Starlight, on the other hand, CRAVES companionship. She can't stand being alone. So her social-autism manifests as constantly being around others & forcing them to do things her way. She knows how to socialize, but has to un-learn bad habits.

>that moment when you realize you're not weak, just retarded
>>29883520
Yeah, but there really wasn't much else aside from just imagining it that she had to do.
>>29883618
That's a really interesting observation I never thought about it.
>>29883618
...huh.
>>29883618
That actually sounds pretty accurate.
>>29883618
>good episode discussion
I-it's been so long
>>29883618
Explains a lot. I bet Trixie is similar.
>>29883618
Thanks a lot for the insight.

STARLIGHT said HER magic was fueled by HER imagination and emotion.
We can't say this is how magic works because Twilight, the most logical, calm and scholarly character on the show is a magical prodigy. Starlight just happens to be so fucking talented that she fuels her magic off raw imagination and emotion. She's essentially the magical version of autism
