Challenge #7!

Since it's the 7th challenge, how about we do a 7 day art challenge!

=RULES=
-Basically, the deal is you will take the day's theme and draw what comes to your mind when you think of it. So if the theme was "the beach" you might draw ponies surfing, swimming, or playing in the sand.
-By no means do you have to do this daily; in fact, the last thread lasted almost 2 weeks! So if you can do 7 drawings in about 14 days, you can do this!
-You have to do them in order and they have to match the theme (and have to be pony related in some way) but otherwise go nuts!
-Have fun!

=THEMES=
Day 1: Weather
Day 2: Food
Day 3: Hobby
Day 4: Pets
Day 5: Outdoors
Day 6: Villian
Day 7: Friendship

>Special thanks to Cronus

Aside form the tangent with Celestia's horn and the text, the composition is very well thought out. I'm really getting the feel the the emotions portrayed here. The redesign of Celestia's cutie mark and chasis is very good too.

I think if you really stick with this you'll be better than me within the year. Your lines are already cleaner.

Just woke up to this, thanks! I'll tweak some of those before moving to colour.

Speaking of which, any tips on painting? I roughly get colouring and shading, but I have a soft spot for brush strokes like celestiawept's.
>>
>>29882826
Then try doing more prominent brush strokes? I don't have much advice if you already know coloring/shading, other than if you have some blendy brushes that add color and also blend it into another color if that makes sense? I'm still running on fumes here

I'm seeing a lot hard round and color dodge on a lower opacity soft round possibly made into a tool preset. Some others but those are the main. I can see at least 2 more brushes used here and I think I can recreate the shape for you in photoshop. For the fur, looks like a premaid texture was put over a base block-in. been used for fur, but most of it is also hard round.

Once you get the hang of drawing you can identify people through them easily. Fuck me if I can remember any names though.

Yeah, I've had more luck getting them rounder by drawing them a quarter at a time; it's let me be more consistent since I've started having trouble with my back and haven't been able to keep my shoulder movements as smooth as I used to.

And yeah, I figured a preggers pony made sense for a holiday based on a pagan fertility festival.

If I enhance the fuck out of the image, you can see some of the guidelines I drew to line up the circles; I tend to draw them inside boxes, so they don't end up too lopsided.
>>
>>29889861
Basically we just want you to not use like, circle tools, line tools, etc. If there's a circle, YOU should draw it. If there's a long line, YOU should draw it; not a bezier tool or a line tool etc. Also when you post, if you'd ask for on something then you would be totally welcome here. I know I went off on you the other day, but I'm just exhausted, so sorry if that came off more bitchy than normal.
>>29889861
Okay, but you didn't hand draw those circles, did you? If you did, could you show us how you can draw THOSE circles so well while saying that THIS is how you draw circles?: >>29889798

>>29890075
Basically, the discrepancy is because I don't have a drawing tablet, so >>29889798 was drawn with a mouse in MS Paint. The closest thing to a "tool" I use, other than paper/pencil/eraser. is making little marks on the side of my eraser to keep all the hooves the right size.

I drew the circles freehand, and they're actually somewhat off as a result; the butt circle is too tall, and the chest circle has an odd forward slant to it, for instance.
>>
>>29890111
Well if you're telling the truth that you don't use a template, tool, compass, nor trace and that you draw all of these shapes free hand, then I commend you on it. I'm still suspicious, but if you can prove it, we'd love it. Use your pencil and paper, not a mouse, btw. Your faces are almost always really well done btw and I'd give you advice on how to draw a pregnant mare I would, but I hav eno idea
>>
>>29881595
EDIT: I might have forgotten to tell you, but you can start and finish this tutorial any day you like. You can even do them all in one day if you want. If you used EVERY theme in one picture, that'd be amazing, haha.

I mean, it's okay, I was mostly triying to explain what the other guy was saying in a much nicer tone. If you had a tablet it'd be really easy to take a video, so I guess I'll just trust you. Also using a reference is fine, but we're really, really like to see you draw your OWN pose that isn't copying someone else's pose. Do you think you could do that? I mean this thread IS about getting better and yeah, sure you have improved, but if you can't draw a pony on your own, then you can't go farther, and by now I know you can do it, just trust me and try it.
>>29890216

>>
>>29890229
I drew >>29884668 without a pose reference.
>>
>>29890306
Well why didn't you say that! Someone said you were tracing . Okay well I'm very glad you did that, but as you can see, you need help with anatomy when you draw without reference. The face is okay but the limbs are really off. Do you mind if I redline it?
>>
>>29890335
I said I'd do that during the weekend; I didn't feel like repeating myself.
Go ahead. I think the front legs look a bit too much like they're from a front view, and the hind legs are too drastically curved below the hocks, but I'm not quite sure how to fix it.
>>
>>29890335
>>29890404
While you're at it, I could use a new redline of >>29780862, keeping in mind that she's supposed to be hanging onto a ledge (>>29794787) and not just dancing on one hoof.
>>
>>29890404
Well, I know I've said it a ton of times here but I'm exhausted and I don't remember very well when I'm fatigued, so sorry.
I was already redlining it anyway, hah.
And you are certainly right about the problems you have andI have a couple too so I'm still working on that. It's just a tough pose to deal with because of the perspective you chose.
>>29890426
Can I redline that tomorrow or do you need it immediately?
>she's supposed to be hanging onto a ledge and not just dancing on one hoof.

I can see you're using -some- form of a sketch, but whatever you're doing is wrong. The front and hind legs should not look like they're superglued to each other, the torso is far too long, tail is too far down the butt, and other stuff I'm too tired to explain. Basically it looks like you're trying to do a "Style" but I can tell you don't know the actual show anatomy yet, so try to do that first. Once you know the rules you can break them

>>
>>29894449
>it seems to me that everyone draws poners differently
I'm going to say the cliched "if everyone else was jumping off a cliff would you?" thing. Because they might already know proper pony anatomy. Like me. I can draw show style and I can draw my own style and it's important that you know how to draw the show style ponies before you make your own style. Unfortunately you are not close enough to show style anatomy to make your own style. Use the gallery of tutorials and look at show references. Once you get the anatomy down you'll be able to break it like the people you are talking about. If you don't they will always look wrong.
>>
>>29894449

>>
>>29894449

You have to learn the rules before breaking them. There's no way around it. Real horse anatomy won't necessarily help you, but learning about of the cartoon ponies you want to draw will help without a doubt. You have the right idea though, keep working on it.

>Okay stop studying horse anatomy.
Ugh. Why would you say this without proper clarification? Don't stop studying horse anatomy. It'll help you understand what you're drawing circles and cylinders to represent. If you don't want to draw the long muzzle then shorten it down like the show does. It doesn't make it nightmare fuel to have a longer muzzle, it's merely less cute.

What you actually need to do is practice some human anatomy too, because G4 ponies mix in a lot of human facial features. A lot of people also like to draw their bodies in a more human-looking way when they sit or do human-like poses, although that's fully optional.

The idealizations are what make poners cute, but if you don't understand the fundamentals then you're learning to draw by route and that's no good.
>>
>>29894835
This is like the perfect example of my confusion.

>The idealizations are what make poners cute, but if you don't understand the fundamentals then you're learning to draw by route and that's no good.

Honestly it's kind of hard to tell because the anatomy is covered in mech stuff but the mech stuff is not properly perspective-d and your lines are super hairy. I'm sure this is a sketch but you should at least clean that up a bit. His (?) right leg should be farther from the viewer and foreshortened and the left arm also needs foreshortening
>>
>>29912609
Alright, let's see if I can figure it out myself and with google.
Never really understood the foreshortening. Like, the concept is simple, 3D objects and stuff, but when it comes to actually draw something I guess it kinda falls back behind other problems.

Learn more about perspective - you indicated where joints are, but each joint is on a different level above the ground. Same thing about highlights in her eyes. I doubt that you used any vanishing points.
Your lines could use some variety - play around with width. Since you're copying style from the show, you could also copy their line quality.
Your drawing is messy and dirty; it looks ugly, like you didn't care. If you're smearing your drawing with your hand, then keep a clean sheet of paper between your hand and your drawing.
Buy more pencils. Visible construction looks ugly, especially on the head. If you used 2H instead of HB pencil it would be easier to erase it. And pupils in your eyes look ugly - you're pressing your pencil really hard. It would look better if you used 2B or 4B graphite pencil and pressed not so hard. Or even 8B. They're really cheap if you're not buying a whole set of pencils in a metal case.
You shaded her iris and inside of her mouth, but ignored the rest - it looks lazy. If you don't know how to shade in a way that shows depth, then at least put in some flat values. Twilight doesn't have white mane, white coat, white tail and with cutiemark. If you don't know what values you should use, then look at pic related. I put a black&white filter on a picture from google.
Those * on her cutiemark look shitty. Draw tiny stars instead of those lines.

>>29910139
The way you put in shadows looks really messy. If you're going for a cell shading look, then you'll have easier time using (in photoshop) a single hue/saturation layer (as a clipping mask) that would decrease brightness and shift hue. Then you could normal mask on that layer and black, hard brush to clearly define where's shadow and where's light.
And her face looks kinda squarish; not very cute.

I was kinda going for messy, but I have a feeling you don't mean the kind I was going for. Personally I want to try a little more than simple cell shading, but beyond that, I'm pretty poor on deciding on where to put light and shadow.

Look at old master paintings. They were never aimless. Most of all of them had a story behind them. Thinking of story, even small ones can help immensely. If you have some trouble with it, I suggest doing some world building and writefagging on the side so you have a pool of shit to draw.

>>29914422

That's a fucking beautiful idea. I never even thought about it like that.
>>
>>29914422
Music seem to inspire me, but it often gives big ideas. And the thing that bothers me is I come up with things I cannot make. I really like some games, I have plenty of ideas with them, some are even poni crossovers. Maybe I should put aside the fear and just start making them... They won't be good anyway as I am a newfag at this but waiting with them till I git gud is bad either. I need to make stuff to learn doing stuff.
>>
>>29914769
I don't get how he's drawn in show. It looks like his arm is on wrong.
>>
>>29914921

It's the show's way of saying that if it works for the context (and more importantly, in motion) then it works. There are plenty of times when the ponies are scratching their chins when they reaaaaaaaaaaally shouldn't be. It means you have to be a little liberal with how you handle his arms (which are the most inconsistent part of him).

So I guess my advice would be to understand arms better since you then have to synthesize what would look "right." I would've said just look at noodle arms more so you can see what looks right, but that would build really bad habits if you start there.

Wow I just realized how shit at advice I am...

Most of your complaints boil down to buying new art supplies, which is going to have to wait until I can go to the store.

I'm not sure what you mean about the line thickness. I'm already using lines of different thicknesses; the main outlines are noticeably thicker than the internal ones (e.g., between her mane/tail highlights), for example. I'm also not sure what you mean about the joints either; I connected the corresponding joints in Paint, and they all seem to form parallel parallelograms.

The undersketch and construction lines are left in intentionally for this thread, so that my process can be seen more easily.

Sure, because fixing perspective, shading, line quality, cutie mark and making sure that drawing is clean is about art supplies...

>I'm not sure what you mean about the line thickness.
>what you mean about the joints
Pic related.

>The undersketch and construction lines are left in intentionally for this thread
It sounds like an excuse from shading.
>>
>>29920047
>Sure, because fixing perspective, shading, line quality, cutie mark and making sure that drawing is clean is about art supplies...
The drawing being "clean" is about needing a new eraser, so yes it is. I only have a 0.5 mm mechanical pencil so my options for line thickness are limited as well. Consistently shading a large area is also something I'd need a different pencil and a working eraser to even attempt. I'll try to make the joints more consistent.

>Pic related.
Considering that my lines are all half as thick, the difference being half as much makes perfect sense.

>It sounds like an excuse from shading.
I don't care what you think it sounds like.

>I only have a 0.5 mm mechanical pencil so my options for line thickness are limited as well

Going over lines multiple times can add thickness. Or you can even go out and buy a pack of ticonderoga pencils. Blaming your tools is poor form.

>Consistently shading a large area is also something I'd need a different pencil and a working eraser to even attempt

What is Hatching/cross hatching

Beyond that, I suggest you go watch the show and pause it every 1 or so minutes and sketch out the pony you see in about 45-90 seconds. It'll give you a feel on how pony should look while making your drawings a lot less stiff.

Thats all I can say now. The rest is on you.

You still don't understand that it's not about the tools but your skill, you still seem to not understand basic techniques like hatching, you still fail at the utmost basic fundamentals. Hell, you probably still only draw a pony or two per day.

You should post so we can help you improve to get those sweet upvotes. Also if you just want upboats, you should just draw porn. There's honestly no shame in it and you'll get all the gratification you need even if it is shitty.

I'll make an effort, though I'm not the most qualified.

In the top drawing, the angle of the line that connects the back legs is faintly greater than the angle of the line that connects the front legs. This should be the opposite, as shown below. This is because due to perspective, the closer legs should be slightly more spaced out than the back legs. Likewise, the line connecting her left legs (the ones facing us) should be slightly longer than the one connecting her right legs (the ones further from us) due to perspective, which is also slightly the opposite on yours. Last thing is that the bottom of her hooves are fairly flat on yours, especially towards the front of each hoof, which makes her look more 2D. I rounded them out in the bottom one to give them more depth, with it being most oblong at the front, to maintain that pony appearance of their hooves being rounder at the front. Hope that helped!
>>
>>29932457
Most of that looks pretty good to me! My only major point is that her front right leg (her right, not ours) looks a little too flat. Might want to give it a tiny bit more curve. May want to faintly curve the line for the back of her neck, too, just to keep it from being quite such a straight vertical line.

Have you been learning and trying new things over the years? A lot of it is often because you're not putting in the extra time and effort into newer things. If you want to push your work further, spend more hours, weeks, even months on one piece. (I think I stagnated a bit myself until I spent 4 months straight reworking one painting learning how to fix my mistakes instead of dropping it for the excuse "I'll get it next time.") If you don't already have an inspiration chart, make one so you have a goal in mind too.
>>
>>29933806
well
- if you want to stay anonymous, use "anonymous artist" tag, otherwise it'll get tagged "artist needed" and some sleuthy wanker might end up tagging it with your artist handle

- treat the neck as its own anatomical unit, I know the show style makes it look like the torso and neck are a single, continuous sausage, but to make complicated poses look good you need to be aware what the neck is and what it does (look at real horses)

- ditto for wings, find the anatomical place they attach to and their basic structure

- try to keep all your limbs the same length and thickness

>Is quantity of upvotes on derpiboru correlated with quality of an image?
It's an interesting question and I spend some time doing research about this subject.
Here's what I learned:
- Drawings with score below 100 are amateurish in an obvious way: proportions are off, or lighting is inconsistent, or rendering is ugly, or it's a doodle made in your notebook, or nobody cares about topic of your drawing (it's your OC just standing there, or it's some cringy, edgy crossover with Bleach)
- Drawings that have score between 100 and 200 are much better, but they're still kinda bad: proportions are still off, anatomy on humans (especially hands) looks bad, unappealing faces, rendering tends to be flat, artist made weird stylistic choices.
- Drawings above 200 look good, they're appealing. It's a good idea to strive to reach that level. Some are traditional ink drawings, others are digital painting, but all of them have good proportions and anatomy. If some coloring was used then either it's very similar to the show, or it shows third dimension well.
- After reaching 200+ upvotes they stop to be related to the quality of drawing and becomes random. I found the exactly same picture (with only slightly different resolution) that once had 322 upvotes and another time almost 100 more upvotes (https://derpibooru.org/1327028 and https://derpibooru.org/1327030). I found beautifully rendered portraits with less than 350 upvotes (https://derpibooru.org/1299567), and a shit-tier drawings that had twice as much upvotes because artist included few lines of text (https://derpibooru.org/1290512). That being said (if you ignore drawings with text in it), then beautifully rendered paintings tend to have much more upovotes.

I was considering only drawing that are safe for work, not animated and older than 4 months (to filter out great pictures that didn't had enough time to get many upvotes)

>tl;dr
If you can't get 200+ upvotes without making jokes/porn, then study more.

Don't read too much into it. Exposure counts, as does the number of peeps who follow your artist tag and/or the tags you usually post into. Some tags have rabid hatevoters, some have foam-mouthed fanvoters, both make differently themed pics stand on uneven ground. Getting +10 on a modestly dressed dark-skinned canon character is way bigger of an achievement than getting +200 on a generic pair of tits.

See >picrelated for two of my draws, top one is literally just my OC standing there. Basically the same score with the painting, but the top one got a lot of extra views from being in the community collab and more importantly, being posted in the collab thread which a lot of folks were checking out a lot.

>>
>>29937166
Oh this old argument.

I'm enjoying the fandom in my own way ok? I rarely draw canon characters because the images I want to see of them are basically always already drawn, in a style and quality that I can dig. And in case it soothes your jimmies, I'll assure that almost all of my pony OCs are established pre-existing non-pony characters with their own stories, worlds, fellow casts, etc.
>>
>>29937309
Then why keep imitating something else? You'll never grow this way.

You've diverted so far from show canon that nobody interested in MLP will care, yet not taking the plunge completely so you'd have something that would be enjoyable on its own merit.

Seems like a pointless endeavor to me, but if it makes you happy I guess.

I hope you guys aren't doing this for upvotes either. That's a quick burning fuel to git gud. What if you draw for others' satisfaction?
>>
>>29937958
If that's a secondary thing, sure. But in the 3 years and few months I've been drawing seriously, I noticed that people that started at the same that did it for the wrong reasons have all quit by now or keep coming back to it with no improvement. The only other artists I talk to now are either also just starting, or they genuinely love drawing and painting and it brings themselves satisfaction. They're also the ones to improve faster.

Some people are too easy to satisfy so I've defaulted to thinking, "lmao get better tastes, fag," when someone mentions they like my art. From an outside perspective from normies, I've been told it's a very negative attitude to not be receptive of compliments from them and be “overly critical” of myself all the time. But I actually do love painting and I don't feel any satisfaction unless someone I look up too who said I had the problem prior, complements me on that specifically, or until I’m satisfied.

>>29938288
Try to stop struggling too much, the more you try an make what you think the baseline of "perfect" is, the worse the outcome will be. Just draw what you like, apply what you learn, and always do your best to fix mistakes you see and you'll probably find it a much better time.

I noticed that people are like it. I know my - for now - pony art is shit, always when I come here with something I am getting corrected on so many things. But people outside say they like it. I've even done some commisions. Not bad work but still even if buyer tells me they like it I still feel like I sold them shit. Maybe it's an issue with me being to critical for myself but that is not bad isn't it? That's the way to improve I think.

loomis isnt bad per say. but it's good try branch out. check out Michael hampton or glenn vilppu.
also look into reading up on perspective as it greatly applies to drawing more convincing anatomy when combined with constuction. so perspective made easy br Earnest R. norling is a good starting ground.
once you know the construction you can learn to apply it in a more 3d space with perspective.

lmao nice meme. If you want the same book without pseudoscience proven wrong in the 70's and exercises you can do with pencil and paper alone, Look up Charles Bargue's training course. It teaches you how to learn and observe from real life so that you don't need much of anything else. I'm not saying don't read anything else, but you can get a lot more out of them knowing how to observe things for yourself. Loomis especially is just a proportion guide. It wasn't meant for people to try to construct a human body with.

Personally none of these books really helped me. Studying from life and some good old Eaton's anatomy lessons helped me out a lot.
Cyborg Vilppu is always for worshiping, though.

So I just dug out my tablet after about six months of doing nothing in terms of art (and only drawing sporadically before that) and I hammered this out in an embarrassingly long amount of time. The character is, ostensibly, some bastardization of Anonpone. I know it's probably a waste of time but I'd like a little feedback on where exactly to go from here.
>>
>>29947009
That's actually not too bad, considering personal style. I'd probably make the front of the body stick out less ahead of the front legs, the left eye (our right) looks too far from the other, and the bottom of the jaw is just a little too long, which in conjunction with the color scheme and the square-ish jaw, gives a crocodile-ish appearance. I'd give some curve to the undersude if the jaw, and shorten it. Probably the solution is, rather than moving the pony's left eye forward, to move the rest of the face back.
>>
>>29947009
I'm not really in any position to give art critique but I do want to talk about your attitude. I'd recommend dropping that heavy self-deprecation stuff, even if you do really feel that way. It may make people take you less seriously or make it seem like you're fishing for compliments. I know how you feel but it's probably not good to act this way too much in the long run.

Lines under the eyes are thicker than the lines around the rest of the eyes, giving it a tired or drugged out look. Props if you were going for that? Mane is a bit too uniform in its scraggily-ness, it's uniform trisngles most of the way around. Might want to vary that up into larger and smaller ones to make it look more natural. Legs are too straight and too short. Scoot the forelegs back a little and make them curve in a little on their upper halves, adjust the angle of the back legs so they're not angled so far forward like the pony is about to fall on its' ass. The rest is pretty good!

>>29948757
better sketch than what I've seen in a good while
not correct
but a decent sketch

as for anatomy:
- shoulders should join at the withers on top of the spine, not inside the chest
- pastern angles on RF and LH legs are overly steep
- RF leg is missing its knee joint
- where is the caudal spine?
- where is the cervical spine?
- a mouth that open needs some additional detail or it'll look like a sockpuppet
>>
>>29948945
Thanks for the advice. I usually add detail to the mouths later, but for a preliminary sketch I usually just map out the general shape. You're absolutely correct about all the anatomy points, though I did include the knee I might not have made it clear that it was that instead of the elbow. I also tend to do the pasterns a little more extreme to make them usable as wrist analogues, though I will definitely keep it in mind for the hind legs.
But yeah, I tend to rely a little too heavily on gesture and need to do a proper anatomy study when I have the time to sit down and do so.

It's got plenty of tools to make for a great drawing and/or painting program, not to mention the hundreds of addons you can add to it to extend its capabilities. The main problem is that it has terrible brushes for drawing, and its brush engine is extremely inflexible.
From what I've seen, there is pretty much no way to make brushes that are anywhere near as good for painting as you can in programs like Paint Tool SAI or Krita.

The engine is pretty shit, not gonna argue with that. Lazy Nezumi actually makes it pretty decent though, and you can get some pretty good brushes if you know what you're doing.

What did you guys do to actually learn the fundamentals? I get that practice is a big part of it but I still can't seem to wrap my head around this stuff. And is there any particular order I should be doing this stuff in?
>>
>>29954868

There's no wrong way to start but its important to identify what your intentions with art are. It may take a while to even figure that out since it takes a lot of self-exploration. The process of figuring out what to do and how to study it is a challenge all on its own. No-body here can tell you what to start with first. You begin with figuring out what you like. That's really the key here: having standards and figuring out what you like. You can have high standards but realize that it may take a while to get to those standards. Just be patient with yourself.

Since you're in a pony draw thread I have to assume you want to draw characters. That alone can encompass many things like perspective, anatomy, color theory, line weight, proportions, your hand-eye coordination. etc. And it won't stop there. As you go along you're going to realize more and more just how much you're going to need to know and it can get overwhelming quickly. Its your job to break apart these problems and work on then slowly, one at a time. Drawing in itself is a fundamental block so as long as you just keep drawing everyday and pushing your limits you're going to get better. There's really no other outcome.

My first sentence said:

>There's no wrong way to start

So no. You just need to keep going and do some soul searching.

>Does this mean I need to start over from square one?

Fundamentals are an on-going process and something that has to be applied consistently. It isn't "I learned it once so I'm done." Draw, figure out the issues you're having, then ask for advice on how to study it. Life studies are a good start.

Fundies. Once you understand light you'll be able to do it, and emulate any style you please. Right now your lighting looks very inconsistent. Hold on, I'll give you a paintover in a sec.

Here, tried to replicate both styles as best as I could. Notice how for both, despite stylistic choices the very same rules of color and light still are applied the same way.

It's good that you have a goal you're reaching towards though. I wish you luck and good gains, Anon.

Also,
>Not using phtotoshop masterrace. lmao.

I remember feeling like that. Studywise, it does. But no one ever really starts at square zero with visual art. We've all communicated with a visual medium as children before we learned to speak. Now that you know how to improve on that, you're already way ahead of the curve. All you need is to do it.

That's nice, rat. Thanks alot.

make them in a quick but light stroke, if wrong repeat, once you're happy with the result, draw with a stronger line.

How do I understand how to "skin" the hooves correctly? Also, is there a way to tell the limits of each joint?
>>
>>29963184
"try harder" doesn't help if they don't know where they went wrong. At least point out why it's wrong, like how the head and hair is over the leg and how the legs are at unnatural angles.

What do you mean by "skinning" the hooves? Do you mean if you want to cover them or not? The limits of the joints depends on the kind of joints. For example, your shoulder has a ball and socket joint so it has quite a bit of mobility. Your elbow, however, is a hinge joint and has limited movement.

So to apply this to ponies, their shoulder sockets and hip sockets are ball and socket - so they have quite a lot of mobility. Read through this and research more (ie Google) about joint anatomy to fully understand how the joints bend and shit. This is stuff you can learn on your own, honestly. And yes, learning "people" joints helps pony joints because they have similar bone/muscle structure just, you know like, moved around. Sorry I'm really tired and can't do into words but this link should help you out --->

Like how to follow the joints correctly to avoid that clubbed hooves problem.
>>
>>29965566
Oh, well that's really a matter of studying what you see and drawing what you see. If you have a drawing you'd like me/us to look at and help you with feel free to post it and I'll redline it for you

I made this animated gif really quickly to show you how you can shape legs easily and without worrying about club feet

Ah, dammit. Sorry, I really appreciate that you made that but I keep forgetting to mention I'm just using pencil and paper and then finishing it digitally.

You should still attempt to keep your hooves in check though

I don't know what this image is trying to convey. Pinkie's hooves are still rounded and not flat. Have I been misunderstanding what club feet are for the last 3 threads?
>>
>>29966327
Well the idea is that you round them after you get the shape correctly. I figured that was a given.
>>
>>29966345

Yeah but even on the example you gave the front of pinkie's feet curve very slightly out. What is club feet then?
