I really liked this couple of episodes. I mean, I know the show has become a shadow of its former shelf, that stories for Celestia, the Mane6 and every other classic character is complete and now this is the Glim Glam show and other memes, but if you don't take it seriously, if you just go for the fun, it can be really enjoyable. You just get what you want: cute ponies acting as they were people, magical stuff and tearjerker moments that remind you how lovely is friendship when you concede to each other to share a common destiny.

I couldn't rate the episode, but I really liked it.

I liked this two-parter. I mean we get two episodes where twilight (mentally) physically abuses glimmer and an episode where glimmer is emotionally abusing herself. Plus I got an episode where Celestia DIDNT suck and was lovable. In S7 finale Starlight arranges a marriage on herself, to celebrate her most latest and most epic redemption after using her magic in all the wrong places, but later decides to marry Trixie after all.
In S8 premiere Starlight gives a birth to a Stargod Destroyer - an alicorn from the birth, like a Furry Farts, but with 5 wings and 2 horns. It accidently destroys Equestria, while trying to use her magic to dig in her nostrils a little, but after that suffers an existential crisis and reacreates the universe mid S2 and proceeds to kill herself in an ultimate act of redemption.

And, oh yes, the last part, Jim also gets hanger by L. Faust who returned to the show.

Liked the two episodes overall, think I liked ABU more than CA overall but the 1st episode had bigger high points.

Celestial Advice is about the closest we've had to Celestia focus before and I rather liked it: it kept in tune with her earlier teasing traits and her care as a mentor. The 'expression' and laughing parts were my favorite parts, and while I thought her anxiety was a bit trying to hard to make her exactly like Twilight I did find the reveal of some backstory for her enjoyable. Though I will say the rest of the episode was boring: Twilight's doom scenarios were fun enough for her spazzing out but contributed ultimately nothing, Discord was being unbearable again and really the only parts I would watch over again are A) the parts with Celestia or B) the ending with Starlight confessing she didn't want to go (which while I can see it as a bit of a cop-out the confession of how she felt unprepared to go felt realistic and cute)

ABU was more entertaining all throughout and it was mostly Trixie. Her personality defects shine a bit more here than they did before (though it is a little overwhelming at times, considering her past development) but the jokes were spot on and Starlight actually having to deal with Trixie's flaws was cool to see. I did not like the explanation on how magic = emotions, I feel that contradicts a lot with what we've seen with other unicorns and even Starlight herself, so it's either a bad ret-con or it's yet another thing to make Starlight even more snowflake than she was before, but in the context of it driving the plot it served well enough for seeing Starlight and Trixie actually have to deal with their emotions. I'm not big on Starlight personally, I do not think she brings a lot to the cast in terms of character and yet there's all this focus on her in every opener/finale since S5, but this was probably my 2nd favorite of her focus episodes besides No Second Prances.

I'd say, maybe 6/10 for the latter and 5/10 for the former.

Granted, but I think emotions factoring into magic is not too far fetched. If thoughts alter the outcome so can emotions, or in this case really negative thoughts. Starlight was shown to be a powerful unicorn so her thoughts can possibly manifest as a kind of wild magic because she's not really in control, lacking proper education unlike Twilight.

That's a thing already in the lore in the context of magical surges, like when Twilight went berserk at her test or what they warned of in the Baby Cakes episode with Pumpkin, but it seems more difficult to justify with Starlight given her age and experience. A pony lacking proper education could not do what she does at the ease of which she does it. Plus I swear we've seen her become extremely emotional before (if not anger than with certainly sadness) without casting a spell immediately after, and not had any kind of wild magic prop up

Overall thought they were good episodes, especially the second one, but they kinda fall flat as premieres. I am glad though the writers decided not to stretch out CA out to be a two parter because that would've been godawful.

I'm also not sure why Anti-Glimfags are autistically screeching so hard at this episode: It pretty much has solidified that Glimmer is no long and won't ever be in the M6 and she's just her own side characters, like the CMC. Isn't that what they wanted? All the promotion for this season focused on the m6 too so it's not like they are relegated to being background characters.

People fuckimg hated the CMC for the first 3 seasons and made jokes about the show being canceled and a spinoff being made for them and now look at them. They are some of the fan favorites and you fags probably cried when they got their cutie marks. Give glim the same chance, the fact they are splitting her from the mane cast gives her more room to grow without her feeling forced in. The second episode showed this potential nicely.

And really, let's be honest, every Premiere and Finale Episode from S3 beyond was 100% focused on Twilight with the m5 being fucking dead weight (S5 premiere being the only exception). At least they dropped all pretense this time.

If any of you Anons returning from hiatus see this and feel like participating, the episode ranking thread I'm doing for pre season 7 still has another week left in it. Sorter this time around has more reliably working pictures, auto-saves, and lets you easily fix mistakes if you pick the wrong thing and catch it before the end. Usually takes a little over an hour to make a list if you're going at a good pace.

Seriously, a story doesn't need a villain to be decent. Celestial Advice was longer than it should've been, but that's because it felt like stretched out denoument for To Where And Back Again. Doesn't mean it didn't have plenty of enjoyable moments.

And don't you dare talk shit about All Bottled Up, that was a fun decent episode with a good friendship lesson and good comedy.
