Main character were shown in episode 2 while singing a song about them being main characters. Starlight, CMC, Spike, Discord and Trixie are just secondary characters and thats everythign they will ever be.

From a writing standpoint it's needed.

The mane 6 arc is for the most part complete and adding any more significant conflict directly to them would be just recycling old stories or hamfisting more and more powerful things into the story dbz style.

And while adding one or two characters to the main cast freshen up things, it won't add that much potential for a story.

Trixie and Glim (alongside Discord) are now somewhat of an anti-hero group that are now playing alongside, but not necessarily with the main cast. They're in for their own interests and it adds a whole new dynamic to how the characters interact and problems they need to face.

It's genius because now you have much more room to write new content. Either they can focus on the mane 6 alone, GlimTrix alone, or a conflict one causes for the other. Makes me breathe a sigh of relief because it means new things are in the future.

Heads up, Starlight and Trixie will later reveal themselves as a lesbian couple under muh progressiveisms. This is following another story I've seen to a T, if it keeps it up. It's inevitable.

The mane 6 are great, but it's amazing what a breath of fresh air the addition of Glimmer and the Glimmer-Trixie dynamic (as well as the S6 finale) were for the show. It shows that the original premise for G4 has pretty much run it's course, so it's good that the writers have something to satiate Hasbro's endless lust for more seasons with.

I'm ok with this as long as there's actual new dynamic being sustained and they don't cut ties with m6 at all. Ep2 did manage balance it up but I would prefer a smoother transition overall. Don't forget about the characters but explore new stuff, make both parties bounce off each other. And most of all don't lose respect to m6. Annoying Twilight is ok, she can take it and shoot back, but don't just make it a New Hotness vs Old and Busted thing, don't make them repeat the old lessons just with new characters.
So far it doesn't seem that GlimTrix gonna play a big part in upcoming episodes so they're not shoehorning them everywhere, and that's good, it's gotta be gradual. If they're gonna make it work properly it's gonna do wonders to the show.

I'm okay with the secondary group being added into the mix but I need more of them interacting with the Mane 6 than provided so far. GlimTrix by itself is okay but I would much rather see how they play off against the rest of the Mane cast than just each other, and open up new avenues for character development on both sides than just having an A-Team story and a B-team story.

Trixie and Glim relations are nice because they are new and have potential to go anywhere but I'm not down to just reset the cast once every couple of years when good writers can still find ways to continually develop the ones that have carried the show since the beginning. Really, if and when the Mane 6's arcs are all and truly complete and there really is nothing left to tell, I feel like that should be it for the show and a series finale is due.
