It will be better than S6 and S3 because of more focus on characters that aren't mane6 and Starlight.

Meghan McCarthy was edgy since she took more darker tone toward all characters in Party of One, Lesson Zero or Twilight Kingdom. Now all we got is "safe" episode with generic plotlines or wacky jokes or meme faces.
Completely regressed the aiming audience to literally little girls.

Totally undermined by the fact that it was an instant reformation almost immediately after it was revealed to you. The protagonists tell the antagonist she's wrong, the antagonist interacts with her mother who scolds her, and the antagonist does a 180 because she doesn't want to be like her mom. There's no subtext here. It's kind of paint-by-numbers.

They threw vegetables and stressed out the wildlife. It was a generic Hatfield and McCoys story. Again, paint-by-number.

Undermined by him pulling himself up by his bootstraps, going back to college, and then realizing himself in the way everyone wanted him to. He's not naturally flawed, he just wasn't working hard enough. The perfectly just universe the ponies live in that rewards ambition 100% of the time was satisfied.

The implied infidelity of Mrs. Cake was probably darker than anything you listed, if only because we adults all knew what it meant and nobody swooped in to shout "LO! IT IS I, THE MAKER OF CANON. IT IS A JUST UNIVERSE WE LIVE IN AND ALL IS PERFECT. THESE CHILDREN ARE YOURS, MR. CAKE, IN FLESH AND BLOOD, AND ALL WOES MAY BE HENCEFORTH FORGOTTEN!"

They just kind of glossed it over. Like, yeah, those kids likely aren't Mr. Cake's kids. Everything you listed is resolved in the episode it's presented with a fully unrealistic, positive answer. None of that shit mattered because the show reveals the characters were all merely mistaken.

Thats just some relatable stuff in a family show, it already was in Disney channel cartoons and the like. McCarthy was more edgy with pcychotic breakdowns and DBZ battles. Theres nothing like this anymore. We get S6 premiere with a baby shenanigans and battling clouds. We had S6 finale where not a single changeling was injured or hit. Instead we had Discord using his stand up comedy. It was all childish and for toddlers.

That's just childish. The reason the Mrs. Cake thing is dark is because it simply slides on by and the adults are left with the implication the kids will miss.

If a character is depressed because he wants to be a tyrannosaurus, it's not dark if his depression is resolved by waving a wand and making him a tyrannosaurus, anon. Goddamn.
