Eh. To be fair, I don't see absolute apocalypse rising from Starlight's actions as logically following, but that's the least of my complaints. The whole focus on "our destiny is the world's destiny" fucked things up, just like it always does when a bad writer uses that trope.

It was implied since the beginning that Twi and her friends are destined for the things they do. Twi's elements being shaped like a crown should've been a dead giveaway that she's meant to be a leader of some sort. Also the fact RAINBOW Dash is only one character who could do a rainboom is also a thing, though I'll admit that part may be legitimately just dumb writing they did without really thinking of it's implications

Not what I meant. My beef is the whole "Without Twilight and friends, the world is DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED" angle that episode took. It's dramatic, sure, but it just makes the rulers of Equestria seem that much more useless than bad writing already did. Dark futures are one thing, wars can be won and tyrants defeated. But saying that Twilight and her fun bunch are literally the reason the world hasn't been completely obliterated?

The thing is the central theme of this show is harmony and there are many things that suggest that all the events are predetermined. So it makes sense that trying to mess with the natural flow would cause everything to fall apart

They would need to go all out edge on a particular scene, but it is theoretically possible.

You'd pretty much need a well loved character to die on screen for it to happen but it is possible from a tonal perspective.

Say for example if Celestia was murdered by a villain and Twilight went full revenge mode on them.

Might not be darker from an implications perspective but much darker from a direct tonal perspective.

They could stop pussy footing around the concept of death. I don't know what it is with cartoons today and being so against violence. Sure you have a few exceptions, but buy in large, they never touch blood and they never touch death. I'm not saying it's necessary to make a good show, but you can't deny they add gravity to a situation and that actively avoiding them only hurts you in the long run.
