So what's the difference between DMing and hosting a CYOA? Not really clear on some of the differences.

The players control what the character wants to do/tries to do. They don't control whether he can do it or not. It's perfectly acceptable for an earth pony to fail to fly. But if the players say fly, it's a lot better to say "You try to fly but then remember you're an erf pone" than to completely ignore it. You can also have the character refuse to do something if it's against their established personality, but you need to establish that you'll do that early on and with non-important decisions.

One thing to keep in mind for anything regarding questing is that consistency is more important than abiding by any of the soft rules CYOA has generated. If you have an iron grip control of the MC they'll expect an iron grip when it comes to important decisions. If the players have had full and direct control, or think they do, then there'll be a massive backlash when you go against their commands on a big decision.

Also, always ignore blatant no-support shitposts.
