With the mare to stallion ratio being what it is, there must be a lot of lonely mares out there. What possible sociological effects could this have and how do you think many mares act with the knowledge that they're probably not going to be mommies?

It is common for a stallion to impregnate multiple mares. That still doesn't resolve the loneliness factor. Perhaps they are given government-supplied antidepressants to get them through the days?

Unlike humans ponies are granted some kind of divine birthright talent, they'll theoretically never live empty or meaningless lives because they'll always have their cutiemark talents ,a place in society they belong. Basically theres no "want" for a mate, it simply happens, and until then they're content with whatever it is they're doing. Theres no observable desire to be a mother or a father or to have a boyfriend .
Ponies are naturally bisexual. Generally, the personality of a partner is the most important thing to consider in selection (though there are selections--Rarity was more interested in status than personality).

The ratio normalized in the most recent seasons. Season 1 and 2 are the only ones where I noticed a huge disparity between the sexes.

No. The male to female ratio is now 50/50.
