If EQG became canon in the FIM world, it wouldn't matter if the writers rightfully didn't want it to be canon, Hasbro would be the one wanting it, so they wouldn't be able to undo it or rewrite it to non-canon. We know this from the fact that they forced them to do those Flash cameos.

The only things that are really set in stone in the lore are the Hasbro toy interventions, because we know even if they try, they won't be allowed to retcon it.

There's been zero actual references to the events of EG. Celestia on the show hasn't said a word about Sunset nor Twilight. Especially since they're treating Glimmer as Twilight's first student. Sunset not showing up in the alternative timelines during the S5 finale, stuff like that. Not even a glimpse of the book nor portal.
I know some of you might pull up that tweet but that was during the first movie. I think now the whole thing is just a separate continuity type of deal. Meaning that Sunset nor anything involving EG is part of the Friendship is Magic universe. Even looking at EG the series is moving away from FiM by getting rid of pony Twilight and focusing more on SciTwi.
I just find it very, very, very unlikable that Sunset is ever going to make an appearance. She has as much of a chance as SciTwi or Sugarcoat.

In short EqG exists in its own continuity separate from FiM. Remember that EG shares elements from FiM but overall it seems like they're just to separate things. Like the comics and the show which the comics borrow from.

SS shows up in pony form in FIM.

I say that EqG was thought to be a mirror universe if you watched star trek you know of them having a mirror universe.
Its not there all the time however you get 1 or 2 episode per series in the mirror universe where everything is the same only everyone who is good is evil.

There is a solid barrier preventing the crossing to the mirror universe and only occasionally the universes cross.
There are solo episodes that take place entirely and 100% in the mirror universe only (in a mirror darkly part 1 and 2).
No one is arguing they are non canon they are simply set in a alternative universe.

You might argue that the EqG universe and the FIM EqG universes are separate from the main FIM universe.
However to decide they are non canon is simply silly if you accept a multiverse of endless infinite possibilities for MLP to be canon.
