Whitley is from the "big words make me sound smart" school of writing. Also his syntax/diction are terrible; try actually reading any of these lines out loud and realize how stilted and unnatural they sound. It's just awkward.

"Stereotypical" teenage angst is at least based on observed, repeating phenomenon in the real world. Most teenagers are ansgty at some point. Being "wise beyond your years" is a lot more contrived and less relatable because it is far less based on reality.

There were very few issues they went over in that book that were resolved singled-hoofed, most of it was teaching the values of working together with the various leaders / creatures of Equestria. Of course everything gets resolved neatly by the end, so does everything in the show.

In what way? There are also many kids who manage to grow up smoothly and don't need to go through a rebellion period. And in either case it makes more sense for alicorns: the book states that alicorns have vastly longer life spans than normal ponies, so while Luna/Celestia are still 'young' comparatively they could still have more decades on them than most adults that would explain them as being more composed.

If rebelling teens are just the norm then that would seem to make non-rebelling teens the more unique idea.

"Make her let me out of here" is perfectly normal English. The syntax is correct, and the diction is correct. There is nothing wrong with it. Both adults and children use it, though children are probably more likely to say it that way.

Come on, the journal recounts only a few events from the early years of Celestia and Luna written from their perspective. Very few individuals writing from their own perspective are going to comment on how they might sometimes be a bit of a jerk to a sibling. And we do get, from the journal, the idea that they like to prank each other, so it’s not as if that possibility doesn’t exist either. The comic, of course, is an outside view of the two sisters and the dynamic they share, and is free to depict their relationship at this particular point in their lives as a bit more antagonistic. In fact, depending one’s own personal experience, the comic depiction is arguably a more realistic scenario for the two of them, with the older sister frustrated at being held back by the younger one.
