Each race is more or less self sustaining. People wiritng that only earth ponies can grow food are idiots. There are other races in show, without earth magic and they aren't starving. Maybe they can't produce food as effective as earth ponies but pegasi with control over weather or unicorns with some kind of magic fertilizer can grow food more effective than magicless races like minotaurs or zebras. They aren't dependent on earth ponies.

Also in the show there are machines in cloudsdale, so it is possible to hew floating farms as well. They are of course more expensive, but can work.

The way I understood that episode was less that the Unicorns and Pegasi -couldn't- make their own food, but more that like nobles or cityfolk, they had no idea how to and no past experience in doing so. I think nothing is wrong with them at all, I think species outside of Equestria experience night and day normally and their land's natural cycles proceed normally - I think it's Equestria that is different and the various pony abilities seem interconnected with that environment.

I think of that old castle in the center of Everfree, "free" is probably what that forest is and I think Luna/Nightmare Moon's original plan was to reverse or otherwise subvert the control of nature that had been established probably when Equestria was "founded". Celestia likely stopped Luna from doing this and the Everfree is left-over from this incident, that's probably the real reason she banished her sister so harshly. Then upon her return her plan is to simply imprison Celestia and force her to watch as she uses their control of nature to slowly and tortuously destroy their own kingdom since Celestia would not give it up.

I would also allege that this is Discord's interest in Equestria and particularly Celestia herself. A deity of Chaos would take umbrage at being magically barred from enacting his bailiwick upon an entire land. Like, imagine how death would feel about the invention of immortality? He might just show up and be like "You're cheating, this is cheating", so it is with Discord I think. Also that Celestia could imprison a god gives you some idea of the level of actual power she, I think, doesn't ever see herself parting with.

Furthermore, I think Discord wasn't as imprisoned as he looked. I think the pony dominion over nature is so strong that his only manifestation within Equestria was trapped in stone and he could not create another. Chaotic things could happen everywhere else and he could still manifest in those places but within Equestria there was no chaos and that's part of the basis of their society and probably the strongest element of her control over it. There is no war, no murder, no crime and nobody really thinks of resisting her because why would they? It's a little like Saudi Arabia, people in SA like their tyrranical government quite a lot because most if not all of them receive a better than living wage from the government in one way or another. Celestia isn't brutal so much as she is perhaps the perfect utopian, able to create a true utopia through magical means.

Also I think the basis of the entire story may be that Celestia has the ability to see into the future. Also, this episode, this retelling of what is folklore for them - you can't forget it's entirely within that context. I think this tale occurred before the founding of Equestria through magical dominion over nature and like many folklores much of the original context is eroded by it's retelling and updating. I can't.
They are more physically and intellectually superior than the others who aren't even needed.
Other races shouldn't be allowed to breed with unicorns to avoid tainting the bloodline.
They should have just made all the ponies unicorns from the start.
Only having 1/3 of the population able to use magic causes a lot of problems.

Yeah, the one thing I can't agree at all with national socialism is how much power the state is supposed to have in it. I do believe some degree of authority is needed to maintain control, but giving it too much is just as bad as being an anarchist.

More or less each pony race is now self sustainable, I agree. The crutch of being the best or even the only race to tend land via some magic is somewhat lamely justified by most. They are definitely the most skilled at it, but they aren't magically better. It's rather through years of tradition and breeding did they become that way. Perhaps earth ponies ages ago were more vital for food production, but now does it seem that it is more convenient for earth ponies to farm than vital. They play a role, though a role that can dbe done by most.

Imagine a noose tightening around your neck every day, so slowly that it's only noticable if you're actively tracking it's movement, you just increasingly find it ever so slightly harder to breathe, but it's not so bad, you can adjust, stand on your toes a little and carry on as normal.
Then one day, completely out of the blue, a wild pack of fucking (literally) horses stampedes through.
In all the confusion, it takes a couple hours for you to realise the noose is gone, for the first time in years you can take a full deep breaths in and out and simply relax.
You pet the calmed horses, sit down with them and discuss this novel experience, sharing laughs and generally having a good day, even if you're not generally a fan of horses they got rid of the noose so they cant be all that bad.
And then suddenly the horses are gone and the noose is back to the level it was previously as if the past couple of days never even happened.

The difference in quality between /pol/ and /mlpol/ was honestly astounding, the terms "Shill" and "reddit" are often used improperly and far too frequently, but at it's core they both simply mean "Outsider."
And that's exactly the opposite of what /mlpol/ was full of.
Sure we all had vastly different opinions going into it, but at the end of the day the people that actually stayed on the combined board had far more in common with each other in terms of sheer attitude than they did with their fellow boardmates on either side.
It's the closest we've been to the original 4chan in years, when this was just an obscure corner of the internet, where you could have a cute cat thread right next to a gore thread and nobody would bat an eye because we could simply ignore what we dont like and focus on what we did.

One moment that springs to mind is Sunset's growth spell in her backstory comic. She made a sprout grow so large that it broke through the ceiling of the building she was in.
If they can do time travel like we've seen in the show, I'm sure they can grow food.
Also, season 1, we saw that Twilight turned a frog into an orange and turned rocks into a suit. I'm sure that they have many growth spells or transfiguration spells that can turn inedible matter into food.

First of all, comics are not canon, second of all, not all unicorns are Sunset or Twilight and we don't know how powerful those spells are and how much magic they take to create. Practically every single Earth Pony is able to grow food but only one in a million unicorns have the magical ability to transfiguration objects into food, and we don't even know how edible or how full of vitamins and proteins those magically created meals are.

Which is why I brought up the instances in he show but just because growth spells are in the comics, doesn't mean they don't exist in the show.
In Canterlot's massive library, I'm sure as hell that they have spell books on farming and growing plants.
I'm sure that there are also probably unicorns that do have farming for a cutie mark.

And seeing how Twilight harvested multiple trees at once with her magic, you would only need one in a million unicorns to have farming as a talent. One unicorn can apparently do the work of multiple earth ponies due to their magic.
