Whoever they hired to put this teaser together did a shit job. They clearly gave him (I assume it was a single person editing the trailer because it's that bad) some animated assets from the movie and told him "make these move around and have some cool effects and text that go with the voiceover" and the person just added a shitload of filters and garbage glitter/sparkle preset effects since it was his first day on the job and his first time using After Effects. They used a fucking emboss filter with softened highlight and shadow on all the characters. Really?? Would have looked MUCH better had they not applied any effects to the actual characters.

Also after Hasbro had seemed to be slightly rebranding over the past ~6 months towards a (somewhat) more gender neutral color scheme (the MLP:FiM logo changed from entirely shades of pink to dark purple and white with blue highlights) this trailer does away with that and uses fukin pink bloom-filtered glitter flying towards your face.

Fuck this teaser. Terrible first impression for the masses. Hasbro should fire the people responsible for this trailer since I bet a bunch of people seeing this for the first time have just decided there's no chance in hell they're gonna see the movie now.

The difference between 16-bit and 8-bit has to do with gradients, so the result will be a more gradual shadow that blends nicely. Something that looks more volumetric and less embossed.

There obviously SHOULD be some kind of shadows below Rainbow's mane, for example, but that doesn't mean it should look like a flat object sitting on a flat pony. The flatness is apparently a result of the trailer production company fucking up.

I think that the teaser has two shadings at once, the "original" shading, which was incorrectly rendered and it's what gives the ponies the "eye-bags-effect", and a secondary shading to give everything a 3D look, probably to make the teaser look more flashy. Why, precisely. The movie isn't another "Glimmy saves the day" episode, and it was done by Meghan and Jayson, not by Haber and Miller. I'm not fond of the Zootopia-ripoff new characters, and I'm not really "hyped", but I have far more reasons to look forward to the movie than to look forward to season 7, and I don't think that the only reason to be excited about the movie is "damage control."

The animation and artstyle on the ponies looks fantastic. However it looks really out of place on that featureless background and next to that weird, ugly-ass logo.

Seriously, they need to fire whoever decided to make the logo not fit with the artstyle of the movie at all as well as making it look like a shitty plastic keyring. They should also severely warn the person who decided to use such a bland, featureless background in the trailer.

The actual ponies look great but there's just so much artistic clashing going on in that trailer that it's fucking painful for my eyes.
