There is a lot of custom stuff (art prints, figures, buttons, plushies, etc.) and it generally outweighs official licensed merch greatly at these events. Though it is possible to buy stuff from some of the vendors online, some items can be exclusive to conventions.
Not to mention that physically seeing/holding the product in person is nice to be able to do.

I can't really say he wasn't a nice person, because he was polite enough.
I just don't think he cared at all about any of the people there to see him over his MLP related stuff. His answers were very short and lacking any amount of detail. It felt as if he didn't want to waste any of his time dealing with those people.
After meeting mostly everyone else (Price, Cooke, Garbowska, Richards) and seeing the enthusiasm, interest, and fun they were having. He was just sort of a letdown.

I feel like that to Fosgitt, the MLP comic is just a paycheck

That entertainment center is being wasted on that entry level Samsung TV. Also, your viewing distance is much too far for a screen that size. It has its pros and cons. Pro: the money is nice and the job is 90% staring out a window. Not a whole lot of drama. There is more drama in a month of working at King Soopers than there is in two years of railroading.
Cons: 12-16 hour work days, on call 24/7, away from home for 36+ hours at a time in a hotel, all weather from rain to snow, -60 to 128 degree days.
Currently furloughed right now because gas prices dropped, coal is dying, and traffic is down. Four years of seniority and I can't hold where I want to year round. Plus the company is trying to get rid of conductors which would put thousands of people out of work. I personally love my job but it definitely wears on the body and doesn't lend itself very well to having a family or free time.
