There probably WERE, since she was supposed to be a mentor to the ponies. But, as you know, corporate meddling completely trashed Faust's intended storyline for S1, so she became nothing more than a background zebra with a nice plot.

I think she's the only character left with a little 'little ponies in a big world' hinterland, who hasn't been destroyed by !!WORLDBUILDING!!.

Try and tell me that a Zecora episode in S7 wouldn't be 'the gang go visit Zecora's ancient family home (in Manehattan) to solve the mystery of her grandmother's missing family jewelry (Apple Bloom had it all along in the 'History of Ponyville' school exhibit)'

I don't think it quite counts as a cutie mark. Twilight did say in the episode about Gabby that no creatures other than ponies can get cutie marks, which I think includes zebras.
Probably just a random tribal symbol so her ass doesn't look bare.
