The apex of this show, over 6 years later it still hasn't been topped.
I searched the song for sake of nostalgia without realizing that today is actually the first day of spring
>>29705983
This song is the reason why I became a fan of the show.
This song was the first song I learned in English.
These things can seem small, but being in a fandom allowed me to know new people, and to share interests with new friends. And watching stuff in a different language was the excuse I needed to start learning English for real.
This song probably affected me much more than I'm willing to admit.
>>29705983
That episode had the perfect mix of slice of life, world building, humor, and music, and Fluttershy only made a minimal appearance.
It's the perfect FiM episode.
>>29705983
>Lie down
>Try to smile because the good times happened
>Cry because the good times are over
>>29706005
Same here, the entire show has probably affected me in embarrassingly important ways that i would never admit.
I've learned English and taken up and expanded on creative hobbies as an almost direct result of being a part of this fandom.
It's hard to believe so much time has passed already, i wish I'd know someone beside you assholes who could feel this nostalgia with me.

But it got topped a few weeks later when Green Isn't Your Color Aired.

Frienship really was magic back then.

>>29706400
Except for the "ending with all of them laughing", that's a pretty accurate summary of The Saddle Row Review, and probably the reason why for some of us it was a great episode.
If only we could have more episodes like it, instead of just one per season.

Man, fuck whichever executive decided to nuke the treebary. Yes, it was stupid for a princess to live in a library, but its replacement is an absolute piece of shit.

Treebrary was the place where friendships were made and the world was discovered. It was a place where the the lessons were learned. The castle is a place where a chunk of rock with a map on it decides which two ponies are going where and that's it. It doesn't feel lived even after decorations. The friendship doesn't matter, the lessons don't matter. It's cold, unfeeling and formal, just like what Twilight's life has become ever since Celestia was replaced with a map and being friends was replace with being princess of friendship.
>>29705983
>TFW you'll never watch that episode for the first time again
>TFW the magic you felt back then now belongs to the past
>>29705983
What?
You're not glad they killed the treebrary for the astonishing character development of poochie mcflawless?
I bet you also hate her ultra toyetic crystal castle play-set, complete with table map, only 22.99, too
>>29706942
I'd take Crystal castle play-set over Starlight Glimmer any day
>>29706942
"Let's fly to the castle" was supposed to be a warning, not a guide, Hasbro.
>>29706942

>>29706976
HA.
No.
>>29706942
What the hell does the destruction of Golden Oaks have to do with Starlight?
Also, Starlight has shown herself to be anything but flawless.
>>29707030
The crystal abomination was introduced in the last seconds of S4. The next season is Glimmer's season, and the map that characterized the whole castle is central to her "story".
The only time they weren't connected was before S5 was even written.
I love FIM songs and "Winter Wrap Up" was one of the worst songs in the show.
>>29707075
>>29707068
That seems like a skip in logic. They could have just as well left the treebrary intact and added a map inside of it. It wouldn't even have to be a table, it could have just been an enchanted paper map of some kind.
>>29706345
>it's time for another episode of: anon and his autistic faustfaggotry
>>29707091
Oh yes, I misread. I thought you were asking what the castle had to do with Starlight.
The treebary dying was just for toys, obviously.
>>29707091
I wish the fucking box in season 4 had had an enchanted map instead of a fucking hideous castle.
>>29707084

You can't just shotgun lyrics like that, you either put out one iconic line or you do them in order. Putting a lot of them out at once makes people want to rhyme them, but if they can't do that it ruins the whole thing.

Let's finish our holiday cheer
>>29705983
Winter started 20 days ago. Even if you believe the conspiracy lie about it being the 20th, the first half of March has been too sunny and warm for that.
>>29707103
It did have more than an ugly castle. It had the EOH but put through the paintbucket tool on MS paint by a mentally handicapped 6 year old. If you think I'm saying that as a positive, I'm not.
The sad part is we could have had an arc of her putting her effort into regrowing it like in the image at >>29706903, but digging up the scorched remains and dangling them from the ceiling like a trophy, as if a psychotic killer decorated a murder scene with his victim's organs has completely prevented that. I wouldn't be surprised if they were told to make it so that there was no hope of it ever permenantly returning.
>>29707175
proper care and sunshine
>>29707206
Fuck man, I hate what they did to the treebrary on the s4 finale, but I'm absolutely sure that Castle Sweet Castle was written with the best intention. It was an honest homage, and even if you think that it was made in poor taste, I can't believe that the writers of the episode had any kind of hidden purpose.
>>29707253
They didn't have the hidden purpose, the people who told them to burn it did.
>>29707253
It's not like it's a far-out conspiracy. The treebary competes with the castle for toy sales, killing it for good works out in favor of the executives.
The producers might have wanted to salvage it, but the end product is still the same.

>>29707253
I do want to think that way but it doesn't even come off as apologetic. Twilight was outright avoiding living in it. I get it that the theme was "moving on but cherishing memories" but it didn't quite hit the mark for me. It didn't really matter after all, no new memories were made in that castle, nothing important personally to Twilight happened there. The song was sweet but in the end what made tribrary home were the ponies Twilight shared memories with inside it. They wanted to each give the castle their own motif, but in the end that didn't work out. They don't just come there now, they're "summoned" by the map. Rainbow Dash doesn't even fucking crash into it. It's not a stage or a base of operations, it's a lifeless lobby before the episode. The treebrary stump is just an insult to injury.
>>29707354
Maybe it missed the mark for you because the rest of the mane 6 were uncharacteristically stupid in trying to decorate Twilight's home. It's like they didn't know her at all. Also, we have hardly seen the rest of the castle.
Maybe we need more episodes to take place inside the castle on order to liven it up a bit. Something like Look Before You Sleep.

lmao'ing @ your taste desu
Great composition and a fine way of giving Fluttershy a significant, lighthearted role in an otherwise Rainbow-centric episode without stealing the spotlight.
>>29707618
Nor the home offaithful student, Twilight Sparkle.Or even Twilight Sparkle the teacher, since she's done with Glimmer already. Those very teachings presumably took place in the castle but were never shown, and now the opportunity is gone
>>29707672
OP here, desu Winter Wrap Up is not my real favorite but it's the most nostalgic. My favorite would be either Find A Pet or Babs Seed, Smile Smile Smile and Art Of The Dress are up there too.
You sent me on a pony song spree, i really forgot how many good ones there were
>>29707881
Do what I do; at the end of every season, throw on a Youtube playlist of all the songs so far. It's maximum comfy my man trust me
>>29706672
Where the hell are Twilight's legs.
>>29707924
Legs? Where we're going, we don't need legs.
>>29707881
Though really the nostalgia value of Winter Wrap Up outweighs anything those other songs have, and it stands on its own too.
Objectiveâ„¢ Ranking:
1. Winter Wrap Up / Find A Pet
2. Babs Seed
3. Smile Smile Smile
4. Art Of The Dress / The Pony Everypony Should Know
5. At The Gala / This Day Aria
6. What My Cutie Mark Is Telling Me
>>29707902
I'm doing it right now, it really put a smile on my face. These ponies still make me happy after all, can't wait for S7

It really is the best song, I still can't get it out of my head.

I didn't like the song in 2011 and I'm still not crazy about it.
I mean, I love the show and a lot of the songs, it's just that S1's musical numbers mostly struck me as redundant and childishly written (more so than FiM's usual).
>>29707030
Starlight Glimmer has a consistent and believable set of deep-seated character flaws that are quite effective at showing what kind of pony could go crazy enough to take away cutie marks and time travel for revenge.
Unfortunately, the writers haven't noticed them.
>>29709834
I'm curious whether you're a native english speaker?
Because I know if I watched my little pony in my native tongue I would spontaneously combust out of cringe, but in a foreign language it just doesn't register.
>>29709867
Not that guy but in my language everything in MLP is cringy but that's because of awful overly-childish production. And in english it does register but I actually like it, S1 songs are top-tier for me.
>>29709867
>if I watched my little pony in my native tongue I would spontaneously combust out of cringe
I've seen our polish dub on tv and it's bad but not totally unwatchable, where are you anons from
>>29709867
Yeah, English is the only language I know. I can get past most of MLP's kid-pandering bits because they're balanced out by the show's sincerity, but back in season 1 they were hard to stomach. I have trouble watching a lot of anime for similar reasons- the dialogue and the way the characters behave is just plain unnatural.
>>29709929
I'm French, and with the cheap translations everything is just over the top extra girly sugary sweet childishness.
It's physically painful to hear.
>>29709977
I thought it was really cringy until Pinkie's giggle at the ghosties song, the fact that Twilight had the same reaction as me instantly established that the writers are aware of what they're doing. I can safely say that without this I'd probably outright drop the show by the end of ep 2.
Similar moment was Rarity's overly loud YES in fer prince fantasy in Ticket Master. The sheer fact that the show is self-aware did set it apart from most of others of similar nature, at least for me.
>>29709929
Russian official dub is cringe central with voice pitching.
>>29705983
After all these years it really is a fantastic song.
Though if I'm honest, my favourite song from the whole show is still Art Of The Dress.
It's just so fucking good, especially how it builds up to the end. Daniel Ingram's best works were earlier on in the show. There are still great songs in the later seasons, and a few I liked in the season just gone, but they don't quite capture the catchy innocence of the Season 1 songs.
Basically, I don't find myself humming "Luna's Future" or whatever that Razzle Dazzle song was.
>>29705983
I just rewatched the episode and had a giant grin on my face the whole time. It's been so long since I've rewatched it and it made me so happy now. Something I've forgotten this show was capable of. Reminds me of why fell in love with it in the first place.
>>29710328
Agreed, though as fantastic as Art Of The Dress is for me it shares the ultimate #1 spot with At The Gala. Both songs are the testament of season 1 greatness and they perfectly capture the magic of the show.
>>29705983
