If only. It annoys me that they reformed her, not because she was a good villain but because what they turned her into is complete shite. We are led to believe that she's now a great friend but we are never shown that, we are just shown her fucking up and being forgiven by twilight whilst completely ignoring the existence of the mane 6 and only interacting with them when she's made to. They could have done so much last season with all these new possible interactions between starlight and the mane 6 but the writers for some unknown reason thought that a single montage at the end of season 5 would be a good replacement for all of that. The fact that they completely dropped her entire equality ideology also annoys me, could have been interesting seeing her adapting and learning about what life is like in ponyville.

I don't think Glimmer was ever really intended to be part of the mane 6. Maybe when they first reformed her, but it seems clear that S6 was more about giving Glimmer her own posse rather than trying to shoehorn her into the previously established group dynamic of the mane 6. And it seems as though S7 is starting out by severing her one connection to the mane 6, her being the student of Twilight.

Feeling empathetic with Trixie because they both were once fuckups and making up with Sunburst that should've happened years ago instead of her autistic anti-cutiemark movement isn't exactly an achievement in terms of friendship, that's her becoming normal. We see her get along with the mane6 in the end of S5 yet in ELTSD she goes completely mental over interacting with them. She should be given therapy, not friendship lessons.

But no, she's graduating now. Twilight never actually taught her anything on-screen but suddenly she has nothing more to teach her. It's like they want to be done with Glimmer now. Before S6 I thought the majority of it would be spent with Glimmer, but they never took that chance. Then why redeem her in the first place? She's not friends with anyone other than Trixie, her interactions with Twilight are bleak and formal, I don't think she even considers Twilight a real friend. Maybe she considers her more of a mentor, but then Twilight got better interactions with Celestia as a student-mentor duo than Glimmer and Twilight. All that makes me sad, I wanted her to become a good character even though she's forced onto the show this late, I wanted to see Twilight teaching things and learning new things herself from this new angle, but instead we got fuck all and now Glimmer can be written off the show for all they care.

Yup. This movie isn't Meghan's original idea. She wrote her first script inspired by The Journal of the Two Sisters, written by AKR. Vogel decided to insert the furry cat and all that shit instead, because he liked Zootopia. Twilight's own graduation was butchered as well, but it at least had some set up. Of course it was a bit shitty, as the original plan for that was to make her do something even Celestia couldn't do, rewrite the magic itself and that would make her the princess of magic (not just friendship magic). So in that case a graduation would be more fitting for Twilight than it is now. Not to mention that was supposed to be the series finale. I didn't fully expect they would try again for something like that with Glimmer, with no ascension but with proper setup and pay-off, but what we have now is just lazy.
