Given they have thrones and essentially split twilight's job with her, its not like their lives would really CHANGE if they did become alicorns-- all it would do would be to give an out for why the others won't outlive her and officialize their duties in helping twilight a little more.

I wouldn't want it to happen but I can see it happening and would accept it.

the last episode of the reboot wasn't that good. it just relied on "OH ITS DARKER" to try and get by, it lacked the charm and entertainment of the good episodes like the Norse rock warrior or 7 robot assasins one.

Dude, they're getting rid of glimmer this season. That's what the entire gimmick of her graduating and creating a bunch of portals is.
She'll be given a task that she succeeds at so it doesn't see just like she's being kicked out an airlock to her fans, but at the same time its going to be a definite "Out" for the writers to remove her from the show.
