Yes. She was inserted into the show to grate on people who don't like SJWs because the show staff turned into SJWs by that point. There is literally an entire episode where she tortures everyone else's waifu, the episode then serves no purpose to her character development and she acts the exact same way later on - this is show staff spitting directly into your face for your complaints about lack of character development or repetitive problems such as "Fluttershy is too shy!". They intend to insert irritating content carefully calibrated to grate on adult sensibilities. For instance you've been "mind controlled all day" to do menial task before but a child hasn't - it's called going to work!

Not only did they never really want adults watching the show but the people now making the show, who are rejects and losers in comparison to the original staff even by the social standards of their own industry, are here almost specifically to ruin something for "white males". One of the worst cases I've seen of this behavior primarily because it's usually mixed with positive propaganda for what they believe but in this case their only interest is destroying what you like just slowly enough that Hasbro does not notice or care what's happening with it's IP.

Liking her is an irritating meme that is a combination of the refusal to let go of MLP as totally tainted and people playing along with that refusal to frustrate those who don't refuse to let it go.

This is one of many reasons that when the culture war finally draws blood I am going to run onto a college campus and kill as many lefties as I can fit in the scope of my rifle.

Nobody has called her a Mary Sue since Season 6 started, she's obviously an extremely flawed person.
The problem is that she doesn't learn from her mistakes, mostly because the writers don't know how to spread out a redemption arc across a season. They've fumbled her progression and, most dissapointingly, will continue on as if they did everything right.

It's okay if she's just a mind-rapist scumbag to start with, that's a given. She kind of has to actually stop being that at some point, though, or else she is still a scumbag. The audience actually has to accept the change as beleivable, and many don't.

She doesn't seem to understand social things very well. In that episode in which she brain-washed the others, she seemed to see friendship as a goal rather than something to be enjoyed. She wanted to take care of it as fast and efficiently as possible, rather than take part in friendship for what it was. Though that might have been because of pressure she felt at the prospect of failing Twilight.
