I mean every character had their ups and downs, but Cart before the Pony was quite disappointing. I'd expect that shit from RD, but Rarity caring so much aboyt a cart was weird and AJ walking all over her sister was sad.

Ordinarially I don't like the CMCs too much but seeing them break outside their usual zone was nice.

I think the episode would have been better if instead of the CMCs being walked on by their sisters, they had to deal with everyone, including their sisters, classmates, cheerilee, assuming they were gonna try and win the expected prizes.

Pretty much all of Fluttershy after season 1. Season 1 Fluttershy actually had her actually feeling like a well rounded character.

Fluttershy became an unlikable bipolar mess. Losing her femininity and just the lack of cuteness in her depictions was definitely what really killed her for me. She went from my favorite character to least favorite by season 4.
Even in the best night ever when she was going crazy she still managed to be cute.

After season 1 the writers completely forgot to make her cute and feminine and she always seemed to make me cringe with how she was written in the later seasons.

Putting Your Hoof Down: I could deal with this since it was really the first time we got something like this for Fluttershy.

Hurricane Fluttershy: Not a big offender by any means but I didn't care for how the training montage depicted her.

Magic Duel: I hated how she threatens Twilight to not hurt her animals. It felt so cringy and forced.

Keep Calm and Flutter On: Now she's a victim of pandering and unnecessary plots. Waste of her episode.

Power Ponies: Saddle Rager is more generic subversion for no reason.

Bats!: Once again more subversion of her character. At this point the joke is so overused that her default character isn't present enough in the show to make the joke work.

Filli Vanilli: More subverting shyness + bonus unnecessary callback.

Breezies: Shy people feel comfortable around animals because they don't talk back! (Yes I know Spike in season 1, doesn't excuse it)

Cutie Map: The only freaking time I actually liked Fluttershy in years.

MNFBKD: Writers decided that now Fluttershy has continuity towards her not being shy anymore.

Scare Master: Some weird fucking episode where the writers believe Fluttershy is still shy and completely miss the point of a halloween episode.

Overall Fluttershy is marred by changing so much, writers ignoring the original appeal of her character, and by sheer bad luck gets otherwise terrible episodes.

Twilight still has her old habits and character, but it doesn't get spotlight or is completely irrelevant. And there is still some progress for her, it just doesn't get spotlight or is handled poorly. What About Discord for example, would've been really good for her, with her regretting she missed a great moment because she went with her own secluded activity like always but now she actually regrets it. But no, it's actually about being The Princess Of Friendship, not just a good friend, and on top of that her friends act autistic and oblivious for plot reasons, to hammer in that she fucked up, also allowing Discord to basically bully her freely. Was there really no other way for them to handle Twilight's lesson about bonding and special moments between friends?
Glimmer didn't really work out for them though. And now we're stuck with barely used Twilight AND Starlight that doesn't quite fit as well.
