I remember when /co/ went apeshit over the straight-on shots of their faces during this song. Yeah it's awkward looking but they REALLY had a fit over it.

Funnily enough you can see the beaver teeth smile since season 1 when they're singing (like Sweetie Belle's song), but they only used it as an in-between frame. Same way most animators use the tongue outside the mouth frame.

For some weird reason the inexperienced art director, executive, animator thought it would be a good idea to use an in-between frame as a still shot.
