Nope. And trust me I fucking hate EQG. But RR does rise above the other entries in several categories.

Characters:
Sunset gets to take her lumps for being an evil bitch, and her arc here feels realistic. She's full of regret over the shit she pulled in the first movie so she doesn't chime in even when she should.

The M6, while flanderized, at least have semi-realistic conflicts amongst themselves. The band angle works really well for distracting away from how cookie-cutter they're usually protrayed, and realistic conflicts like who's the leader of the band and which songs to play add a layer of believability to the whole affair. I'm in a band and they nailed what being in a shitty school band is like perfectly.

The Dazzlings are pure sex appeal and the writers knew it. They didn't even try to hide it, which actually works in their favor. Properties like Monster High work because they flaunt the sex appeal of the characters. In this movie we finally get villains that are at least memorable, something no other EQG has done. The three sirens shaking their asses is more memorable than Principle Cinch, Midnight Sparkle and Sunset Shitter combined.

Plot:
The plot here is actually believable. Note that I didn't say 'good', but at least it fucking functions. Twilight doesn't know everything and needs help. Sunset knows how to resolve things but feels like she doesn't deserve the right to intervene. The M6 all have different ideas for what the band should do. The Dazzlings are fucking evil and manipulative. Everything resolves itself in a passable manner. There were even shorts to set up all of the M6's roles in the movie, something that hasn't happened again since.

The point is, with this one they TRIED. Too bad it was too little too late and EQG literally commited suicide in the first movie.

I'm doing the same thing with Bunnicula, hoping it to magically change from a mediocre slice of life comedy skit show to a full blown mystery adventure show, my same hopes for season 1 of MLP before I immediately backpedalled and said "No, no come back. Mediocrity was good enough. Don't leave me like this you assholes!!!"
I have been doing this since 2008 because any amount of quality is hidden tightly away. I have to actively look through lists of cartoons and ask around to get any serious amount of quality.

For example have you noticed how season 2 is far more tame, empty and boring compared to seasons 3-6? S2 had next to no plot and then S3+ introduces plots where they go outside of Ponyville for once and have some goddamn action. Or at least something happens, unlike S2 where Dash is sitting in a hospital reading, while in S4 Daring Do is real.

I also cannot notice much difference between seasons after season 3, unless I look really, really hard.

The Trouble Shoes episode I congratulated it a lot for the simple fact that it felt exactly like a low-key children's cartoon show similar to Littlest Pet Shop, otherwise it was boring as hell.

I praised it a lot and everyone wondered what the fuck was wrong with me. I did so because every episode in seasons 2-6 always felt the need to actively make obnoxious lame jokes, throw cheesy one liners, idiotize and autisfy the main characters, act incredibly cringeworthy. Parody and insult S1 just like Teens Titans Go does with the original show. So I liked that CMC episode simply because it didn't step on my feet this time around. When in reality the show should be focused on the mane6 having adventures in the everfree without bickering or throwing cheesy autistic one liners at one another. So now I actually feel more easy not having main character episodes and enjoy secondaries more because they steal screentime away from the mains acting like idiots.

So, we have to get realistic and follow a set of standards. No matter how much they "try" it's still a horrible show which isn't seeing any genuine and serious improvements like everyone expected from G3 to G4.
It's like congratulating Steven Universe for trying to be "dramatic, epic, funny" despite how horribly it fails. I watch most cartoons now in a bittersweet way, among other things.

I thought episode 9 Sweet and Elite was a good episode, for 48 hours I genuinely lied to myself that I enjoyed: the song, Canterlot, Fancy Pants, Rarity and the main 6 having fun.

I thought it was a good episode despite the song lyrics repeating ad infinitum, despite that pop song being incredibly vapid girly uncouth stuff, despite Canterlot only being shown for a few seconds throughout the Becoming Popular song, despite Fancy Pants being an ignorant plot-driven piece of shit, despite it being a Rarity episode, despite the main 6 acting like idiots on purpose in the name of "fun". In Best Night Ever they did by accident, in Sweet and Elite they did it on purpose. They thought we enjoyed seeing the mane6 destroy everything around them.

I cringed at the redneck window-cleaning pony. I hate the uptight stuck-up "elite" ponies in Canterlot. I hate Fancy Pants and his concubine for being annoying vapid stereotypes with no character in them.

I liked it because everything else at that time was shit, it had aired 1 week after the Mysterious Mare Do Well. I personally hate May The Best Pet Win more than episode 8.
