Timber's going to developed more as Sci-twi's boyfriends and shipped hard by hasbro.

Flash is going to continue to rebound and be paired up with Sunset in a Lost puppy style, with his sole role to basically monologue on how much she's changed since he knew her last and her giving him a pity relationship since she likes Self esteem reinforcement.

This way hasbro will continue to be able to sell BOTH flash and Timber as ken dolls, and the two focus characters (sunset and twilight) will have love interests.

But it is much more likely that he gets infected with magic. We saw the magic going free at the end of LoE and we know that there will be some big villain so I wouldn't be surprised if Flash got infected and got powers and became "evil" and become the villain they have to defeat. And once they defeat him, he will still retain his powers and then join the group.
