I feel like the author spends a lot of time on "side quests" for relatively little character development, like the spa day, most of the time in Gem(I forgot the name), and the Edge of the World settlement or whatever it's called. Depends on whether you're going for realism or not. For a lot of FoE artists and writers, 'survival gear' usually amounts to a shirt, a small bag, and maybe a shoulder pad (or two!) if the character in question is a hardened badass.

Realistically, a character would need to carry all sorts of gear and dress for protection - both from the elements and possible attackers.
