As the issues play out, and we unravel the mystery surrounding this bandit — the answers are also teasing and tying into a big storyline in the upcoming season of the show. The “My Little Pony” team shared plans with IDW and opened up some opportunities for us to collaborate with them on what they have coming. Ultimately, we got to craft a really rich, fun, and ultimately meaningful canon story - they were kind enough to let us help them line everything up so that will hopefully be even more satisfying to fans of the comic.

An interview with Curnow revealed that the whole "tying into S7" was more or less hype buzz. IDW got a look at upcoming show scripts, discussed future plots with DHX, and can plan their stories accordingly better. He also specified that DHX still has zero obligation to acknowledge the comics.

I hope not. Starlight is still Twilight's pupil, Twilight and her friends still have things going on, Chrysalis made her threat to Starlight, and there will probably be some cmc and other miscellaneous episodes. The plate is pretty full as is, so adding another character to the mix wouldn't be great. Maybe Starlight will reform him or something like that and that will be a mark of her as advancing as Twilight's student. After all that he goes out on his own.
