It's a "what if" scenario. In this fic in s2e1 when the m5(and Spike) try to blast Discord with the elements instead of fizzling they backfire and burn them to ashes. When Dash learns about that she gets enraged, petrifies Discord alone(it gets explained in the later books why was she able to do that) and then smashes his statue. This infects her with Discord's chaos essence and the only thing that keeps her alive(and turning into a chaos beast) is an enchantment put on her element by the princesses. There's an artifact on the other side of the world which was used to create the elements in the first place, and that is her only hope. And it's all part of an ancient prophecy to reignite their deteriorating world, which is a fragment of fuck I'm spoiling everything at that point.
Anyway, there's two ways to read that shit: drop it after the first book, or endure from the 2nd to 4th book until the good shit starts. These have good shit too but they are the worst overall.
