RPG hands down. The world is perfectly setup for it. You've got multiple fantasy races and locations, each of the Mane 6 can be divided up into the typical RPG archetypes, and there's enough depth in the lore to create a potentially very extensive adventure.

It's hard to make a pony game that would also fit in show's tone. I think you can't really deal with violense all that much so that doesn't leave much choice in genres. Personally I think a strategy game in vein of Civilization would be great. It involves a lot of world-building as well as underused characters like princesses and foreign leaders, while still possibly having some familiar character interactions.

The problem with AAA funding is it comes with the AAA mindset attached. Nobody's going to put $80 million into a project unless they're extremely confident they'll get it back. That means you're forced into pretty conservative game design, in order to appeal to the least common denominator and maximize sales.

HQ Metroidvania. Think Ori but with MLP's art style. Upgradable characters and skill sets. Playing as one the main 6 you have to save all your friends from multiple baddies. Escorting different ponies to whatever goal, each pony with you atm helps you in a different way. (shield,healing,ect) And once you save them, you can call on them anytime to help out with later puzzles n shit.
