Even though that spell was shown in the comics, I'm sure they still have that spell in the canon universe and I'm sure they have growing spells in the massive library of spells in Canterlot.
Just because something was shown in the comics, doesn't mean it's automatically not canon in the canon universe.
They never showed the minotaurs lands from the comics in the show but it makes sense that the minotaurs lands still exist just like it would make sense that they have growth spells.
If they have time travel spells, I'm sure they have basic growth spells.
When discussing canon, we have to account for common sense and common sense suggests that they have growth spells in the canon universe.
