They're both pretty smart, you could have a how to social interaction and etiquette episode, a trip to Canterlot, using Twilight to influence ponies and have leverage until she gets fed up, Rarity finding a magical artifact while gem hunting, Rarity being overwhelmed by dress orders and using Twilight's managerial skills to stay on track, or just 20 minutes of Rara and Twi visiting the spa and going for a coffee while talking about their days.
I'd love the last one. I want the most slice of life comfy episode possible with those two, so much that everyone on /mlp/ would shitpost how boring it was. It would be perfect.

Think Yak episode, but instead of retarded Yaks, it's just some terribly snobby and haughty nobles. With Rarity's advice and Twilight's perfectionism they manage to make a good first impression, but the demands are so high and the nobles so fucking annoying Twilight eventually slips. This ends in a diplomatic disaster, Rarity consoling Twilight and eventually one of the OG princesses has to step in and be regal as fuck, scold the nobles to respect Twilight. Rarity gets the disillusion, Twilight gets a lesson, we get to see a princess actually doing something. Included in the package are some politics in Equestria which are always fun and a few sprinkles of worldbuilding.

The dynamic between Rarity and Twilight Sparkle is social class. They're almost opposites:

Well said. Twilight is was ;_; that little nerd that just wants to study some magic to impress her teacher, which later shifts to magic of friendship. She never asked for any of that princess bullshit, she just wants a simple life and maybe discover some great things. Rarity starts overambitious to the point it's almost a flaw in her character since the day she got her cutie mark. She absolutely romanticizes the elite, royal life and is thrilled to be in such company even if some of them are right cunts. While she has learned that status isn't everything (Blueblood), she still strives to live that refined upper crust life she dreams of, and behaves herself properly as such, even if she just lives in Ponyville. Her friends are the force that drives her away from that ideal, which you can see whenever she lets her mane down. She still wishes deep inside to be that stereotype, but it's undeniably not in her character to be a snobby little shit, as proven by the many times when shit hit the fan and she abandoned all those false pretenses and charades to save herself/her friends.

The best thing about her "high life" dreams is that she never lets them get in the way of who she is - and her friendships. She has her priorities straight. I think this is exactly why such an episode would work, with a good old friendship lesson at the end.
I personally still have hope with two seasons ahead. Bottom line is they can't make rarijack episodes forever.

Yeah, that's the small detail that makes her so great. When push comes to shove, it's friends first. It's almost like deep down she knows that she's just chasing an unattainable fantasy, in a way. Even though those happy feelings have dulled over the years it's still enjoyable sometimes. Even S6 had some good eps, at least not all of them had autistic meme plots like derby racing. The staff change is causing a lot of fluctuation in quality between episodes but I really do believe they are capable of getting back on track and sorting this out in new seasons.

I've worded myself more gloomy than I actually am. I still watch new episodes every Saturday, I still enjoy the show, I still love to shitpost about it, and I still love my waifu immensely. But there's no point in denying it has its flaws and that S6 doesn't have the magic the first (two) season(s) had.
And it's hard to pinpoint the blame. Whether it's the writers not being able to come up with something good, a story editor not enforcing some level of quality, Hasbro overlords, or if the show simply went too far in the wrong direction so it's impossible to go back now. I wish it will in later seasons, but the current trend isn't really making me optimistic. Hopefully the new writers find their footing and won't fall back to old clichés. Hopefully someone with a clear sense of direction gets a hold of the team. But the way things are going now? Yeah, I don't know.

It's understandable that new writers probably aren't confident enough to really go their own way, since they've been sticking with tired and true formulas the whole season. Near the end there were some more daring episodes such as PPOV or even D&D which also didn't bastardise the characters as much as some other episodes. There definitely is some sense of direction there and as you said it's hard to pinpoint who's to blame for the shortcomings, as well as it's unknown who had occasional bright ideas. Even if there's a set of plotlines planned for the season by the higher-ups I'm gonna assume the writers take responsibility for the actual execution of it.
Usually an episode description is enough to see if it's gonna be a total disaste. Worst case scenario I'll just skip some episodes like in S6 just to keep my sanity. As much as I love Rarity I couldn't even stand some of episodes with her more-than-average involvement such as Gift of Maud Pie and SRR and like ten others without her

The concept of PPOV is far from original, though.
Gift of Maud Pie was awfully written and there's not much of a rewatch value, but I have enjoyed SRR. Sure it had its issues, but overall it was fun enough for me to not think about it and overlook it for the fun parts. I've had more trouble with Spice Up Your Life.
Which takes me back to Larson criticizing some writers for literally not watching the show. Some of the new writers don't even bother with watching a bunch of episodes to get a feel for the characters, and it shows. Remember when Rarity saying darling all the time was a joke, but not reality?
Overall there were some episodes in S6 that were offensively bad, which almost makes me glad Rarity got featured so little. Thank god for the S5 three-in-a-row Rarepisodes.

Larson really said that? Well he's pretty much right about that. Sometimes they didn't try at all and some times they tried way too hard. Actually the scene in your webm was the first time ever I just closed the stream and forgot about mlp for a week.
Those three S5 episodes were all good, I loved Made in Manehattan the most. It was written by literally who (while other two were AKR, Larson and McCarthy) but he somehow managed to nail it, while S6 had Haber and Vogel fucking things up with new guys. I guess it's not really about new people coming in but old people leaving as well.

I've had issues in how Rarity was portrayed in SUYL, and that's the biggest offense you can make. Even the song was weak, and I don't know why it had to be Rarity and Pinkie again, once per season is enough.
And yeah, Larson said it in one of the convention interviews when he was talking about his short career as story editor for the first half of S5. He provided some good insight, and also complimented G.M. Berrow on her knowledge of the show, so I'm willing to give her another chance.
I don't think of the scene much, it was just a silly gag, the episode had bigger issues to be upset about than a quick joke. Though I sort of understand it being the last straw that broke the camel's back. At least it gave us the rariball for 4cc.
Benvenuti has a good track record, Maud Pie and Made in Manehattan were both very good eps. I wonder why she got pushed off S6 and instead we had to get Fox bros and Dusedau.
AKR being gone is still upsetting. She was a great writer, and I wish she and Fullerton would still be around. Larson, too.

He gets a lot of shit for things he was simply told to do (MMC, Ep100), but when you look otherwise all his episodes are great. Okay, maybe not It's About Time, but still. And he's just a cool guy otherwise, charismatic, likes to hang out in cons, speak with fans, isn't afraid of laying down his opinions. But nothing in S6 and neither in S7, and who knows if he will be doing something in S8. At least he left on a high note.

I honestly can't dislike It's About Time as I like seeing Twilight acting like a sperg she is (or at least was back then). At the time this episode (and Lesson Zero) was for me almost "going too far" but by today's standards I find it rather tame. He was rather brash at times but I feel like he never went full wank. I can imagine how this episode or Ponyville Confidential would be presented if given to newer writers now.

Looking good, but it has a few issues, the biggest one being probably the neck/head ratio. The neck could be a little smaller and probably more narrow, while the head definitely needs to be larger. That way you can also put her eyes a bit more up, so they don't end at her mouth level.
Second thing is that her right front leg seems to be way too high, and I'd say it's also partially because the body is too slim. It doesn't seem to be wrong by itself, but compared with the neck and the legs it creates that illusion.
I must commend you on the pose and the mane and tail, that shit's flawless.
