Captain Celaeno is the voice of reason to Capper's Jack Sparrow.
Tempest Shadow is the Captain Phasma to the Storm King's Kylo Ren, with Grubber bringing up the back as the comedy relief like Kronk.
Princess Skystar is the Ariel, who just wants to have fun and not deal with her royal duties that her single parent, Queen Novo/Poseidon, imposes on her.

It's really depressing that when the seapony concept leak happened my reaction was "Well, I like the seaponies but I wanted them in an episode, not a big special movie." Now the seaponies are legitimately the only thing I'm excited for. They're the only things that actually feel like they fit in the original MLP FiM world I fell in love with.

Not that this guy doesn't really fit in but, I don't like his shirt as pretty much every animal like species we've seen has been naked and the gradient design on it looks too modern. I'm also disappointed that it's looking like Storm King is just a rehash of Tirek. I really hope there's more to the bad guys than that. I hate the edgy broken horn character. I'm annoyed that we're getting an bipedal bird race in a world where we have quadruped bird races. I hate how the anthro cat looks like a human body with a cat head rather than having more cat features (or at least a fantasy approach like diamond dog's non human proportions).

I hate to say it, but the designs for these characters are as bad as the default clothing styles for the Equestria Girls.

It sucks since I had high hopes for this movie but it's looking like we're completely out of Faust's cohesive fantasy world and into an inspirationless generic cartoon animal world.

We have multiple instances of cats in the show, normal cats and the cats from the daring do episodes. They could have taken that base design and made it look a bit more evolved, instead we get a human body with a cat head pasted on top.

Same with the Hippogriff/Harpies, whatever the pirate character is. Take the design we have now for gryphon and modify it for the new species. It just feels so lazy and incoherent to make it bipedal.

It's clear it's going to be an entirely new species. It'd be lazy for them to just alter the existing gryphon model. It's actually creative coming up with something new instead. And there's nothing wrong with it being bipedal at all. It stands to reason that creatures outside of Equestria would have a difference way of carrying themselves. Equestria is not the entire world.

Would you even take a second to pause and ponder the idea that these could be designs created by professionals for use in the big budget MLP movie? The biggest problem I have with the designs is that they are not what I expected out of a MLP movie. I can argue all day about does this fit in the show or not but at the end of the day, the real question is if these designs should be the ones used in a big budget movie event.

People will argue that the dragons from dragon quest/gauntlet of fire are bad anthro designs as a way to defend the current movie designs. But those are just made for the show with much less scrutiny and supervision. Hell I freaking hated Dragon Quest and what it did to dragons and so did a lot of people.

When I thought of the movie, I expected designs with more quality that instantly clicks rather than trying to fight with the idea of it maybe fitting in with the style of the world. The designs of major characters in the movie should have been nearly foolproof.

But I'll stop bitching now. After all there's more to the movie than just some character designs. We still have the general look of the animation, the sound design, and the writing to look forward to.

I'm just upset because I was hoping that the movie would exceed my expectations seeing as it's probably the last time we'll ever get MLP content from a lot of the original passionate crew members working together now that season 6 has come and gone with almost none of the original crew members still aboard.
